Chapter 764 Doing Something Stupid?

Alex hurriedly went to buy some food and rushed to the hospital. When he arrived, Clara was sleeping on her side, her lips slightly pouting, and there were cookie wrappers scattered on the table.

Even in her sleep, she looked pitiful.

Alex felt an inexplicable sense of guilt.

She must be hungry.

Alex placed the food on the table, contemplating whether to wake her up.

His gaze fell on Clara's face, and he suddenly remembered Clara asking him if she was pretty.

Clara was indeed very pretty. She had a small face, lively and bright eyes, and rosy lips. She was a stunning beauty.

Alex was mesmerized.

A sudden noise from outside startled Alex.

He quickly looked away.

Outside the ward, a family member was crying. Alex walked over and closed the door, significantly reducing the noise.

But Clara was still woken up.

She groggily opened her eyes and tried to turn over, but the movement caused her pain, reminding her of her injury.

Clara turned her head and saw Alex, her eyes lighting up, instantly dispelling her sleepiness.

"You finally decided to show up," Clara said irritably, "I'm starving."

Alex opened the food.

Clara opened her mouth.

Alex skillfully fed her.

Seeing her eat and drink to her satisfaction, Alex was about to leave.

"The nurse is on leave, and I can't find a replacement on short notice. If you leave, how am I supposed to go to the bathroom or wash up later?"

Hearing Clara's words, Alex reluctantly stopped.

"Miss Taylor, it's not convenient for me to stay and take care of you."

Alex wondered, 'Being alone with a woman at night, is that really appropriate?'

"But you said Mrs. Lancaster asked you to take care of me," Clara said softly, but loud enough for Alex to hear.

Alex felt a sense of being trapped.

Clara looked at him pitifully. "Just stay for one night, please."

Her tone was coquettish, melting his heart.

Alex still felt it was inappropriate, but he couldn't refuse.

Clara extended her hand. "Carry me to the bathroom."

Alex, with a tense face, picked her up.

Clara leaned on his shoulder, a triumphant smile on her face.

After Clara finished washing up, Alex carried her back to the hospital bed.

There was a small cot in the ward for a companion. At night, Alex lay on this cot, unable to stretch out his limbs.

The cot was really too small. When he stretched his legs, half of them hung off the edge, and he couldn't turn over without risking a fall.

Clara, on the other hand, slept soundly, curled up on her side, breathing softly. The sound of the air conditioner blowing felt like a soothing melody, making Alex more alert.

This was his first time sleeping alone in a room with a woman.

The quiet surroundings made Alex's thoughts clearer.

His impression of Clara remained the same. As a wealthy heiress, Clara had a proud and pampered temperament.

Clara had always been aloof, and her infatuation with Gabriel was no secret.

Before this, Alex never imagined that one day he would be sharing a room with Clara.

Alex felt something was off, but he never thought it was because Clara had feelings for him.

Lost in a jumble of thoughts, Alex slowly fell asleep.

As a usual good sleeper, he dreamed again. This time, he dreamt of Clara, but in the dream, she was following a man whose face he couldn't see. The man was a jerk, and Alex told Clara not to go with him, warning she'd be mistreated, but Clara wouldn't listen, causing him great distress.

He woke up in a fret.

Clara was staring at him with her beautiful eyes.

Alex almost jumped out of bed.

"You, you're awake."

'What does it feel like to wake up and find dream-Clara staring at me?' Alex wondered.

Alex felt both awkward and strange.

"Yeah, carry me to wash up."

Clara extended her hand.

Half an hour later, Alex went out to buy breakfast. After taking care of Clara, he left.

Ruth called, "Clara, has Alex visited you these past two days?"

"He has," Clara said, feeling delighted.

Ruth could tell from her voice that Alex and Clara definitely had feelings for each other.

"How's it going?" Ruth asked.

Clara's tone turned low. "Still need to work on it."

"Keep it up, I believe in you two."

"Mm." Clara nodded.

After finishing his work, Alex was about to have a meal when he suddenly thought of Clara.

He took out his phone and checked Facebook.

Clara hadn't sent any messages.

'Did someone else buy her lunch?' Alex thought.

A sudden feeling of loss flashed through his heart.

Alex didn't dwell on it. While eating, Angela sent him a message, inviting him to a movie the next weekend.

After a long while, Alex replied, [Sure, what movie?]

Angela recommended two, and Alex chose a science fiction film.

Angela: [That's my favorite too. Do you usually like sci-fi movies?]

Alex: [Yeah.]

They agreed on a time and place, then ended the conversation.

In the afternoon, after a busy period, Alex stretched his legs and saw it was seven o'clock.

Clara hadn't sent him any messages all day!

Instead, Angela had sent him two messages, sharing some interesting articles she had read.

After quickly reading them, Alex discussed the articles with Angela.

Even during dinner, they chatted on Facebook, talking about work, interests, and life.

Before bed, Alex checked Clara's Facebook again. It was quiet.

The next day, Alex went to his date and met Angela at the cinema.

Alex, being a gentleman, bought popcorn and drinks.

It was a movie Alex liked, one he had been looking forward to since the trailer came out.

But now, watching it, he felt indifferent.

Midway through, he went to the bathroom and took out his phone.

He instinctively opened Clara's Facebook.

[Being sick alone, taking medicine alone, is there any meaning to being in this world alone?]

The post was accompanied by a photo of a rooftop.

Alex's heart skipped a beat, and he suddenly worried that Clara might do something foolish.

'She just has a fracture; she'd be fine after some time.' Alex thought.

He remembered Ruth calling him yesterday morning, reminding him to visit Clara more often. Clara had it tough; her parents weren't around, and without anyone caring for her, she might get depressed.

'Could Clara be suffering from depression?' Alex wondered.

The Facebook post was from ten minutes ago. Alex quickly called Clara, but no one answered.

He then called the nurse.

The nurse said, "I have some family matters and haven't returned to work yet."

Alex panicked. Without even telling Angela, he rushed out of the cinema and drove to the hospital.

'With the nurse absent, how did Clara manage her daily needs yesterday?' Alex was worried.

Alex anxiously opened the door to the ward.

Clara looked up. "What are you doing?"

A drop of sweat fell from Alex's chin.

After parking the car, he had run all the way to the ward.

Clara was stunned.

She had never noticed before how Alex exuded such a strong sense of masculinity even when sweating.
