Chapter 25: Do You Want to Speak?

Mrs. Lancaster was about to have someone drive Tiffany away, but Tiffany didn't want to leave like that without any dignity. She quickly said, "I am also a psychologist, and I can give it a try. Usually, I have a good relationship with Sam, so maybe he will listen to me."
Mrs. Lancaster coldly snorted, not appreciating Tiffany's words, but Gabriel made way for her.
"Go ahead and try."
Mrs. Lancaster wanted to say something more, but Gabriel gave her a pleading look. The old lady was also concerned about her great-grandson's condition, so she decided to remain silent.
Tiffany approached the door and lightly knocked, her voice filled with Scarlett's utmost tenderness.
"Sam, it's Auntie Tiffany. Can you please open the door? If there's anything you want to talk to Auntie Tiffany about, she will help you..."
No matter what Tiffany said, there was no response from inside.
This situation only fueled their worries. Gabriel furrowed his brows and angrily shouted, "Where's Alfred?"
Aunt Liu replied, "I already called Dr. Jiang, but he said he's stuck in traffic."
"Gabriel, did anything special happen to Sam before he fell ill?" Tiffany asked with a serious expression. Seeing her demeanor, Mrs. Lancaster also furrowed her brows, feeling a glimmer of hope in Tiffany.
Gabriel shook his head, "Nothing." Sam behaved normally last night and went to sleep early.
"Did he meet anyone?" Tiffany continued to ask.
In an instant, Gabriel remembered that Sophia had visited Sam at the kindergarten yesterday and even gave him some clothes. Could it be because of that?
His handsome face suddenly turned dark and menacing.
"It's her!"
Tiffany instantly understood.
However, Mrs. Lancaster didn't comprehend and pulled Gabriel, demanding answers, "Who is she? Who did Sam meet?"
Gabriel thought for a moment; his grandmother still didn't know that Sophia was alive. He decided not to tell her for now. It wouldn't be good if his grandmother brought Sophia back to the Lancaster family, as it might worsen Sam's condition.
"She's an unimportant person," Gabriel casually brushed it off.
But even though Mrs. Lancaster was old, her mind was still sharp, "An unimportant person can make Sam fall ill. What's going on exactly?"
"Grandmother, it's a woman who looks very similar to Miss Kelly. She knows that she resembles Miss Kelly and wants to get close to Sam in order to marry into a wealthy family," Tiffany effortlessly came up with this reason.
Mrs. Lancaster scolded angrily, "Do you want to speak?"
Tiffany cast a glance at Gabriel, feeling wronged. Gabriel thought of deflecting the question and nodded along with Tiffany's words.
Mrs. Lancaster did not continue to inquire further. Tiffany was still talking to Sam by the door, trying to provide him with some psychological support, but in the end, her expertise was focused on psychological disorders in adults. For childhood psychological issues, it would have to be Alfred.
Fortunately, Alfred also arrived and utilized his lifelong knowledge. He spoke to Sam in the restroom for an entire hour, to the point where Dr. Alfreds voice was almost hoarse. Finally, there was some movement from inside.
"A thud" was heard as something fell, followed immediately by the door being opened. Sam stood there with his head lowered, and Gabriel went up and embraced him.
"Why did you lock yourself in there?" he asked sternly.
Sam trembled, causing Gabriel to instantly withhold any stern words he had in mind. He regretted even asking that one question.
Noticing that the little guy's body temperature was abnormal, Gabriel reached out and felt his forehead.
"Quickly call the family doctor."
Sam had a fever.
Just as Mrs. Lancaster let out a breath of relief, her worry resurfaced.
Fortunately, the family doctor arrived quickly this time. He conducted a brief examination of Sam, gave him a shot, and prescribed medication.
Tiffany also offered to stay and take care of Sam. Holding a glass of water in one hand and medication in the other, she attempted to feed Sam.
But Sam simply wouldn't open his mouth.
"Be a good boy, take the medicine so you can recover quickly."
Sam seemed absent-minded, as if he hadn't heard her voice at all, much like Scarlett.
"Sam," Tiffany furrowed her brows, inwardly cursing this stubborn child.
Gabriel stood by, watching everything unfold. He didn't dare display any emotions, so he could only continue to gently coax and talk to Sam.
"You need to be good and take your medicine, or else the doctor uncle will come again to give you a shot."
At the mention of getting a shot, Sam suddenly reacted as if he had been startled, slapping Tiffany's hand away.
"Ah..." Tiffany exclaimed in surprise as the water in the cup spilled all over her and the medication scattered.
"Sam." Gabriel furrowed his brow tightly and called out his full name in a stern tone.
Sam's small body trembled again, and he looked up at Gabriel. Their eyes met, both sharing the same vulnerability and fear within them. Gabriel saw it in his son's eyes.
Taking a deep breath in his heart, Gabriel raised his hand to signal for Tiffany to leave first.
"Gabriel, I...," Tiffany hesitated.
"Please leave for now."
Tiffany looked at him, then at Sam, gritting her teeth as she reluctantly left the room.
Gabriel sat by the bedside, the coldness in his deep eyes dissipating and replaced with warmth. He suppressed his voice, trying to speak as gently as possible.
"Tell daddy, what's wrong with you?"
Sam remained silent, just staring blankly at a particular spot.
"Are you missing mommy?"
Sam's eyes flickered.
"Tell daddy what you want, and daddy will fulfill your wishes."
He, Gabriel, the dignified CEO of a multinational corporation, faced all sorts of difficult situations.
Gabriel never frowned during negotiations, tackling various economic crises with ease. However, when it came to his son falling ill, he felt helpless.
He thought that once again he couldn't break through his son's barriers, and was on the brink of giving up when Sam suddenly gestured.
"That outfit has mommy's scent."
Gabriel's heart jumped with joy.
"Who told you that?"
Sam refused to answer.
Gabriel continued to guess, "Do you want that outfit?"
Sam hesitated.
Children aren't very good at hiding their emotions, Gabriel immediately realized that maybe that outfit was the cause.
"Be a good boy, take your medicine, and daddy will have someone find that outfit for you."
Finally, Sam obediently took his medicine, and afterwards, the medication kicked in, causing Sam to grow tired and close his eyes to sleep.
Everyone gathered in the hall, Mrs. Lancaster had a stern expression, Tiffany failed to curry favor twice and finally sat on the side. Gabriel came downstairs, and everyone looked at him.
"Sam is already asleep."
Mrs. Lancaster sighed, "What a sin. If you hadn't divorced Sophia for this woman, none of this would have happened. Sam could have grown up healthy and happy, and those two children..."
As she spoke, the elderly woman started crying, but mischievously peeked through her fingers to observe Gabriel's expression.
Quickly, quickly get rid of that woman.
Tiffany harshly tugged at her clothes, looked up with a hint of guilt and self-blame on her face.
"It's all my fault, grandmother. Please don't cry anymore, everything is because of me."
Mrs. Lancaster rolled her eyes inwardly, not mincing her words, "Exactly, it's all because of you! You, a decent young girl, how could you become someone else's mistress? It's scandalous. Don't you fear for your parents' reputation?"
