Chapter 420 I Couldn't Catch a Cold
Sophia had the day off, so she went to the hospital to pick up Jake.
Since Jake had no family in City B, Sophia took him home and cooked a bunch of delicious food to help him recover.
Jake stayed until the evening before heading out.
After that, Sophia treated Jake even better.
Ruth was bored at Lancaster Manor, so she decided to take the kids on a trip before school started.
Sophia was cool with it.
The three kids were super excited.
Gabriel was fine with it too.
So, they quickly made plans, and the next day, Ruth took the kids out.
Gabriel and Sophia saw them off at the airport.
It was the first time the kids were traveling without her, so Sophia gave them a bunch of instructions.
Ethan said, "Mom, don't worry. I'll take good care of Emma and Sam, and I'll also look after Great-grandma."
Sophia hugged each of the kids.
After the plane took off, Sophia went home. The vast villa felt empty without the kids.
It started raining heavily that night and kept going for days.
After work, Gabriel looked at the heavy rain and remembered Ruth's message.
Ruth: [With the kids gone, spend more time with Sophie.]
Gabriel sat in his car and called Harrison.
The rain was pouring, and the wind was howling. Sophia was alone in the villa, feeling a bit sad.
On the first day of the kids' trip, she already missed them!
Sophia had just finished a video call with the kids and was about to rest when the doorbell rang.
'Who could it be at this hour?' she thought.
Then, Sophia saw a drenched Alex and Gabriel through the monitor.
She quickly opened the door.
Alex helped Gabriel inside.
Both of them were soaked.
"Ms. Kelly, sorry to bother you so late, but Mr. Lancaster insisted on coming here. I had no choice. Please take care of him. I need to get going for something urgent."
Alex placed Gabriel on the sofa and hurriedly left.
Sophia didn't even have time to react.
Looking at Gabriel soaking the sofa, Sophia gritted her teeth.
"Gabriel, stop pretending!"
Gabriel's heart skipped a beat.
'How did she figure it out so quickly?' he thought.
He decided to keep pretending and drunkenly opened his eyes.
"Sophie," he mumbled.
Sophia felt a mix of emotions. She had tricked him, and he had indeed shown a flaw.
She looked at the heavy rain outside and pointed to the maid's room, feeling frustrated. "Your area is limited to the maid's room. If you wander into other rooms, don't expect to stay here again!"
Gabriel immediately stood up, shaking water onto Sophia.
"I won't wander."
With that, Gabriel foolishly ran to the maid's room.
Sophia's complex feelings surged again.
After returning to her room, she locked the door and didn't care about Gabriel anymore. After all, he was a grown man and wouldn't get into trouble.
But the next morning, as she was about to leave, Gabriel still hadn't come out. She hesitated and knocked on the maid's room door.
It was quiet inside. 'Gabriel has already left?' she wondered.
Sophia opened the door to find Gabriel curled up on the bed.
"Gabriel."
As she got closer, she noticed Gabriel's flushed face and dry lips. Her heart skipped a beat, and she reached out to touch him.
Gabriel had a fever, and it seemed pretty serious.
Sophia quickly called Alex for help.
Alex said, "Ms. Kelly, please take care of him for now. I'll bring a doctor over."
"Okay."
Half an hour later, Alex arrived with a doctor.
After an examination, the doctor took out some fever-reducing medicine.
"Have him drink some porridge first, then give him a pill. If his fever hasn't gone down in four hours, give him another one."
Alex handed the medicine to Sophia.
"Ms. Kelly, thank you."
Then, Alex left with the doctor.
Sophia remained silent.
Another half hour later, Sophia brought in some porridge and woke Gabriel up.
Gabriel groggily sat up with her help.
He groaned discomfort.
Sophia said, "Have some porridge."
Gabriel obediently opened his mouth.
Sophia was puzzled. 'Does he want me to feed him?'
Seeing Gabriel so weak, Sophia gritted her teeth and thought, 'Fine, if he gets better, I can get rid of this trouble.'
Sophia took care of Gabriel very seriously. Four hours later, Gabriel's fever finally subsided, but he remained asleep until evening.
Sophia was eating dinner alone when Gabriel woke up from hunger. He put on a coat and came out.
'Thank God, he is finally awake,' Sophia thought.
She then brought him some porridge to drink.
"Since you're better now, have Alex come pick you up later." Sophia began to issue an eviction order.
Gabriel thought, 'You are really a heartless woman, Sophia, kicking me out as soon as I recover!'
He said, "It's raining heavily outside. I can't catch a cold again."
Although he had been feverish during the day, he was conscious and deeply felt Sophia's meticulous care, her gentleness, and thoughtfulness, which all moved him.
"Fine, you stay. I'll go to a friend's house."
"No!" Gabriel immediately refused, looking at Sophia with hurt eyes. "This is your home. You don't need to go anywhere. I'll leave."
Sophia bit her utensils and lowered her head to continue eating.
She didn't dare look at his hurt eyes, afraid she would soften.
She had to be ruthless to keep her heart from falling into the trap of tenderness again.
In the end, Alex came to pick up Gabriel.
Seeing Gabriel's gloomy yet pale face, Alex felt uneasy.
He had been on edge for the past two days, thinking Gabriel and Sophia's relationship would progress. But now it seemed to have worsened.
At night, the rain stopped for a while but started again within half an hour.
Meanwhile, it was also raining heavily in Country Y.
They had been there for a few days. Caroline was staying with Josie and Lisa at a friend's house, preparing to handle immigration procedures to live in this small town.
In the morning, Caroline went grocery shopping. Lisa, not knowing the language, stayed home to take care of Josie.
As she left the supermarket, Caroline suddenly froze.
Nicholas was sitting in a wheelchair, glaring at her with a gloomy expression. His handsome face had become more weathered, and his cold eyes were bloodshot.
Caroline instinctively wanted to run, but she had nowhere to go. She forced herself to stand still, taking a few deep breaths.
She limped over.
"Caroline, you really made it hard for me to find you!" Nicholas said through gritted teeth.
Caroline was too good at hiding.
