Chapter 142 Neglected
Auntie Jane also realized what was happening, wearing a face full of disbelief.
"Madam, they..." she began to say.
Madam firmly grasped Auntie Jane's hand, both shocked and delighted. "Jane, I have a strong feeling that those two children might still be alive, perhaps they are Ethan and Emma."
"But we saw the bodies of the young miss and young master with our own eyes five years ago," Auntie Jane said.
Bodies cannot be faked; they saw it with their own eyes.
But how could they explain the appearance of two children who looked so much like the young master? It couldn't be that the young master had illegitimate children, could it?
Illegitimate children as old as Sam... Based on the timeline, it would mean that the young master had an affair back then!
Auntie Jane couldn't believe that the young master would be such a person. She had watched him grow up, and everyone in the Lancaster family had strong integrity. They wouldn't do such things, moreover, Ethan and Emma were twins, and the legitimate wife had triplets. How could the mistress give birth to twins as well?
The probability of that happening was simply unthinkable.
But Madam didn't dwell on these thoughts like Auntie Jane did.
No wonder she felt a strong connection the moment she saw Ethan and Emma.
It was all the bond of blood relations.
"Jane, don't mention this to anyone for now. Regardless of whether they are our children or not, I need to investigate first," Madam said.
"Yes."
With just one photograph, Madam was already 70-80% certain that Ethan and Emma were those two children. In her heart, she also hoped that it was true.
She was excited, but managed to remain calm.
She couldn't rashly approach the two children; she needed to first find out the truth and do a DNA test to be completely sure.
When Gabriel returned with Sam, he didn't see his grandmother. He asked Auntie Jane, who slightly lowered her head.
"Madam is feeling unwell and resting," she said.
"Go and call the family doctor," Gabriel wrinkled his brow, put Sam down, and prepared to check on his grandmother.
"I've already called. The doctor said Madam caught a slight chill, but it's not serious and she just needs to rest a few days," Auntie Jane informed him.
Gabriel instructed the kitchen to prepare nutritious soup for Madam to drink. He didn't notice anything strange and the door to the second floor remained locked.
In order to distract his father and uncle, Sam lied and said he wanted to prepare a surprise for his dad.
The more he thought about it, the more he felt that it wasn't right, so he actually prepared a surprise.
He drew a picture and sent it to his dad.
Gabriel looked at the drawing, which portraded a child sitting on an adult's shoulders. It was an abstract drawing, exuding a sense of art. The adult had a happy expression, while the child appeared frightened.
"Is this you and me in the drawing?" Gabriel cautiously asked.
Sam nodded.
There was a time when his dad lifted him onto his shoulders, and he was scared silly. But afterwards, he really liked that feeling.
Many children would sit on their dad's shoulders...
Their father laughed and played around on his shoulders, which Sam saw several times and secretly envied. Gabriel gently rubbed Sam's head. "I'll have someone frame it and hang it in the study. What do you think?" Sam replied, "Okay."
His son's drawings were never to be touched by anyone, not even himself. Today, Sam actually took the initiative to give him a painting, which surprised Gabriel immensely. All the time he spent accompanying him was not in vain. Being a father for the first time, Gabriel felt that he still had a lot to learn. After these past few days of treatment, Sam's side effects were almost completely gone, but it would take some time for his hair to grow back.
On New Year's Day, Caroline also didn't stay at home. She went to the orphanage with gifts, and the two children went to play at a classmate's house. Sophia was also not idle, as she had made several sets of clothes for the children in the past few days. When Sam came home tonight, he would have clean clothes to wear. She had also bought everyday necessities ahead of time. Around five in the afternoon, Sophia couldn't help but call Gabriel. "Have you set off yet?" Gabriel wasn't very happy because he had spent the day bonding with his son and had planned to play games with him in the evening. But he had already promised Sophia that Sam would go to her place on even-numbered days. "I'll bring Sam there at eight." With that, he hung up the phone. Sophia cursed "shit man" at her phone.
That evening, Sophia prepared a table full of delicious food. Caroline stuffed her mouth happily, completely satisfied. "I was actually planning to find a place to move out, but now I've decided not to." She loved eating the food Sophia cooked. It suited her taste perfectly. Sophia smiled, "Why move? Isn't it nice to live with me?" "Wu wu, it's too good, that's why I want to move. If I keep eating like this, I'll definitely gain weight by the time I can go on an Asian tour. Not good to look at." Caroline mockingly cried while hugging Sophia. Emma said, "Auntie, you're blushing. Even at this age, you're still acting cute." Caroline ... This little brat actually dared to laugh at her.
Caroline pounced on Emma and tickled her armpits. The two of them playfully wrestled. Finally, at eight o'clock, Sophia went out to pick up Sam. It was still in front of Flora Garden. As soon as the car stopped, Sophia immediately opened the back seat and smiled, "Sam." Sam got out of the car on his own. He thought his dad would also get out, but instead his dad waved at him. "Listen to Aunt Kelly and be good. Dad will come to pick you up tomorrow." Did that mean he had to stay at Aunt Kelly's again? Even though he had just seen Ethan and Emma in the morning, Sam still missed them. He didn't know why his dad was sending him to Aunt Kelly's again.
He wasn't unhappy about it here; instead, he was quite delighted.
In order to conveniently meet Sam tomorrow, Gabriel didn't return to his old house but stayed in his own apartment instead.
To his surprise, Tiffany was also there.
He opened the door to a dark room, and the motion-sensor light in the foyer turned on. He noticed a pair of slender high-heeled shoes on the floor.
Tiffany was lying on the sofa, several wine bottles on the coffee table. Her face was flushed, and she was lying there drunkenly, her eyes closed, murmuring.
Gabriel's brow wrinkled, and he turned to leave when Tiffany suddenly opened her eyes and saw him.
"Gabriel."
Gabriel had to stop in his tracks.
Tiffany struggled to get up and stumbled towards him, grabbing his hand.
"Gabriel, you're here. Why didn't you come in?"
These past few days, she clearly felt Gabriel's neglect towards her.
Why?
She didn't do anything wrong. Why did Gabriel ignore her?
She was also a victim; she was also threatened by Alfred. She was just being foolish because she was worried about Sam. Couldn't Gabriel accept her for that?
Tiffany knew Gabriel had been troubled by this matter recently, so she considerately refrained from reaching out to him.
But last night was New Year's Eve. She invited Gabriel to spend the night together, just like they used to. In previous years, Gabriel would choose to bring Sam along and celebrate with her. But this time, Gabriel flatly refused.
Gabriel's attitude towards her made Tiffany anxious.
