Chapter 34 Starting Work

"Miss Kelly, this is the boss's decision, we can't change it. You can talk to the boss if you want." The HR assistant said helplessly.

What does Gabriel mean? With her qualifications, she could easily be a senior designer, yet they assigned her as a junior. She frowned and thought for a moment. Well, as long as the pay is good, she doesn't care about these titles.

Sophia started working under her real name. Her name, Scarlett, may be somewhat famous in Country M, but it has little recognition in her home country. Besides Margaret, hardly anyone in the company knows that she is Scarlett, and she doesn't plan to reveal it either. Her purpose for coming here is not pure, so why bother with unnecessary complications?

Sophia followed the others to attend the training session. The first day was focused on introducing company culture and regulations. Sophia was getting sleepy listening to it, when suddenly someone poked her arm, startling her awake.

"Hmm? What's wrong?"

The person shushed her and whispered, "I'm Ben George, what's your name?"

Sophia showed her employee ID badge.

"Hello Sophia, I work in the publicity department."

"Hello," Sophia replied.

Ben George seemed talkative, and she kept on talking without pause once she started a conversation with Sophia.

"Let me tell you, I know a lot of internal news about the company. My cousin is a senior executive here, and she introduced me. I often hear her complain."

"About our boss, Mr. Lancaster, he has a quirk. He can't have any women within one meter of him, or he'll get angry."

Sophia smiled, "Then how does he get along with his girlfriend?"

Damn it, she got curious just like that because of Ben George.

Ben George pursed her lips and showed an envious look, "That's what I call a fairy-tale love. Only his girlfriend can get close to him. They've been together for many years, and their relationship is really good."

"Oh," Sophia replied lacklusterly and started playing with her phone.

"But I heard that the boss has been married before and also has a child."

Sophia kindly reminded her, "If you keep going, HR will kick you out of the training room."

HR had already noticed Ben George, so she stuck out her tongue and obediently lowered her head. Her cousin told her to behave and stay out of trouble. Lancaster had strict expectations of his employees, and if someone got fired, they would never be rehired. She had worked so hard to get into this big company and couldn't ruin it. She still wanted to show off to her relatives back in the village during the Lunar New Year.

The morning passed with the training, and Ben George casually linked arms with Sophia and went to the cafeteria together. Seeing the three to four-story cafeteria, splendid and comparable to a seven-star hotel, with various delicious dishes, Ben George took out her phone and started taking pictures.

She wanted to post these photos on all her social media accounts!

Compared to Ben George, Sophia remained calm. After coming to Lancaster, she realized how rich this building was, but she had seen much more during her time abroad. Therefore, she didn't find it particularly surprising. She chose the food she liked and enjoyed her meal.
Next, I found a quieter spot and sat down to eat. Ben George finished taking photos and brought the food over with a tray in hand.

"Sophia, let's take a selfie to remember this moment. After we go to our respective departments this afternoon, it will be difficult for us to meet again."

Sophia politely declined, "I don't really like taking selfies, and I don't think I photograph well."

Ben George felt a little disappointed, "Alright then."

For some reason, Sophia felt as though she was occasionally receiving strange looks.

She touched her face, wondering if there was something on it.

Still uncertain, she took out her phone and took a quick selfie.

Curious, Ben George asked, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Sophia put her phone down and continued eating.

In the afternoon, when they went to their respective departments, Sophia finally understood why she had been receiving those strange looks.

During the lunch break until 2:30, Sophia followed the Human Resources department to the Design department. There were two other new employees who joined as well, one male and one female.

After they were assigned their workstations, someone approached, "Sophia, the director is looking for you."

"Alright, thank you."

Sophia stood up and looked around. She noticed that the director's office was right across, not far away.

She lightly knocked on the door and entered after receiving a response.

"Director Li."

Margaret was delighted to see Sophia and stood up to shake her hand.

"Welcome to Lancaster."

"Thank you." Sophia was not at all intimidated when facing her superior. She confidently had a small chat with Margaret.

Margaret looked at Sophia's work badge and thought for a moment before explaining, "I don't understand why the boss assigned you as a junior designer. But rest assured, I will promote you to senior after six months."

Sophia understood Margaret and smiled lightly, "I don't attach much importance to that. As long as the benefits are good, it's enough for me."

Margaret felt relieved. She was worried that Sophia might quit because of this.

Recently, many new employees had joined the Design department, but none of them had been personally called into the director's office, which made people curious about Sophia.

"I just remembered, she's the person mentioned in the front desk group chat yesterday," someone suddenly realized.

"What person?" someone asked in confusion.

"Yesterday, in the front desk chat group, they said Miss Foster had an argument with a woman. Miss Foster was so angry that her face turned black, and they even took pictures. I said she looked familiar."

"So she offended Miss Foster, how come she can still come to work today?"

"The front desk said Assistant Zhao personally brought her in. Maybe she had a special backstage interview with the boss."

"Yeah, that makes sense. I saw that her position is a junior designer, and the boss would never personally interview someone at that level."

"Word of the incident spread throughout the company. She doesn't seem like someone to mess with. We should all be careful from now on."

Sophia never expected that on her first day of work, she would become the gossip center of the department.

While in the restroom, she overheard people discussing her.

She held onto the doorknob, contemplating whether she should go out and embarrass them, but they had already left by the time she made up her mind.

Sophia let out a sigh.

Everywhere she goes, there is no shortage of gossip.

She never expected that such a small scene from yesterday would spread throughout the company. If the people at the company were to find out that she is Gabriel's ex-wife, it would surely cause a sensation.

However, she is not interested in throwing such "bombs".

Sophia nonchalantly returned to her seat. On her first day of work, there wasn't much to do and she was getting bored, when suddenly there was a commotion.

"Everyone has been working hard, let's have some desserts and milk tea." Tiffany appeared in the design department, graceful and virtuous.

"Wow, the desserts from this shop are not easy to come by. Thank you, Miss Foster."

"We are in luck today, thank you, Miss Foster."

"You're welcome, everyone has been working hard." Tiffany shyly smiled, noticing that some of the newbies hadn't moved, she took the desserts and offered them to them personally.

"Thank you, Miss Foster." The newbies were quite diligent and thought that Miss Foster was very kind for bringing such delicious desserts.

Tiffany placed the desserts on Sophia's desk. "Miss Kelly, you should have some too."

Sophia gave a slight smile. "Thank you, but I'm not really a fan of desserts. Please enjoy them yourself, Miss Foster."

"How dare she speak to Miss Foster like that, doesn't she know who Miss Foster is?" someone muttered in a low voice, but it was audible to all.
