Chapter 380 Vegetative State?
Last night, when Sharpe took Nicholas away, even though Nicholas was not fully conscious, he still ordered Charles to teach Daisy a lesson.
Just then, Daisy walked in. In a panic, Charles didn't know what he was thinking and lay down on Nicholas' bed, and then everything naturally led to that sexual encounter.
He actually had sex with Nicholas' fiancée!
Charles felt like he was being tortured by the fire inside.
He wanted to confess but didn't know how to start.
"What's up?" Nicholas' cold voice came through.
Charles immediately broke out in a cold sweat.
"I..." He couldn't get the words out; his mind was a mess.
If he said it, Nicholas would definitely not keep him around anymore.
He had sworn back then that as long as Nicholas needed him, he would protect him and be his subordinate for life.
So, he couldn't say it. If he did, the consequences would be severe.
"I'm not feeling well."
"If you're not feeling well, go rest. Let Sharpe come with me," Nicholas said indifferently.
Nicholas was in an extremely bad mood now.
That soup last night had been spiked with an aphrodisiac. He still didn't know if it was his mother's plan or Daisy's.
If he hadn't sensed something was wrong and called Sharpe and Charles in time, he might have been successfully set up.
Nicholas felt disgusted inside.
Charles thought he needed a few days to calm down.
"Yes, I'll go back now."
"Okay, remember to see a doctor," Nicholas reminded him.
Charles felt even more guilty and miserable.
Sharpe gave Charles a strange look and thought, 'What is up with this guy today?'
Charles looked like he had done something to betray Nicholas.
Ten minutes later, Sharpe wheeled Nicholas onto the plane, and both of their phones were temporarily turned off.
At the hospital, Sophia, who hadn't slept all night, was slumped on the floor. Her beautiful hair was a bit messy, dark circles were evident under her eyes, and her eyes were bloodshot.
In the ICU, Caroline lay there, barely clinging to life.
The police had been chasing the hit-and-run driver all night. According to witnesses, the driver had a flushed face and a dazed look, likely due to drunk driving.
Caroline had been thrown into the air by the impact, and her condition was extremely serious. If she hadn't been right outside the hospital and received immediate medical attention, she might have been declared dead.
But even so, Caroline was still in critical condition.
Why did this have to happen?
Caroline was about to embark on a new chapter of her life. Lisa had recovered and been discharged, and the child of Caroline, who was considered dead, was actually alive.
Was God unwilling to let Caroline be happy?
Did she have to endure so many hardships?
Gabriel walked over slowly, took off his coat, and draped it over Sophia.
Sophia's eyes moved, and she looked up at him.
She leaned against the wall to stand up but almost fell because her legs were numb. Gabriel caught her, his hand on her waist.
"Don't worry, and she'll be okay."
Sophia gently pushed him away.
"Where are Ethan, Emma, and Sam?"
"They're at daycare."
The three kids didn't know exactly what had happened. They only saw Sophia rush out after a phone call with Caroline and not return all night.
Emma was scared and called Gabriel.
At this moment, Lisa walked over, her eyes red and swollen.
"Ms. Kelly, you should go rest. You've been running around all night; don't wear yourself out."
Sophia shook her head. "I'm not tired."
Lisa said, "I'll stay here and watch over Caroline. I'll call you as soon as she wakes up."
Gabriel also said, "Caroline still needs you to take care of her. You can't wear yourself out."
Sophia pressed her lips together and then said, "Thank you."
"It's my duty. Caroline is like a daughter to me."
Gabriel accompanied Sophia as she left.
Lisa stood there, tears falling again.
Caroline's fate was too tragic.
At daycare, the three kids were very worried about Caroline. They didn't know what had happened to her and could only wait until after school to ask Sophia.
Ethan checked his iPad and found that there had been two car accidents last night, but he didn't know Caroline's condition.
Josie heard from Emma that something had happened to Caroline and became worried, too.
After school, she wanted to go see Caroline with Emma.
But Daisy came to pick her up.
Josie had to secretly tell Emma, "I'll call you tonight."
Emma said, "Okay."
Sophia took the three kids to visit Caroline. Caroline showed no improvement today and was even sent to the emergency room for another round of resuscitation.
Caroline's condition was not good.
Sophia was very scared, but she couldn't show it.
"Godmother." the three little ones looked inside through the window.
Since the ICU needed to be quiet, they could only stay for a few minutes before the nurse came to shoo them away.
Sophia had to take the kids and leave.
Gabriel took the kids home, and Sophia stayed at the hospital.
Paul heard from a friend that Nicholas was going to marry Daisy, so he rushed back from City S quickly.
He had to stop it; he must stop it.
'Daisy doesn't hold a candle to Caroline in terms of beauty,' He thought.
Paul drove to find Caroline, starting with the First Hospital.
He saw Lisa and learned about Caroline's car accident, and he was so scared he ran over immediately.
"Caroline!"
Paul leaned against the transparent glass wall.
A nurse walked over. "Sir, you can't visit here anymore."
Paul, with tears in his eyes, said, "Caroline is lying in there, and you won't let me see her. How can you be so heartless?"
The nurse remained silent.
Sophia walked over. "Are you Paul?"
"Yes, who are you?" Paul wiped his tears. A man shouldn't cry easily; he couldn't let a beautiful woman look down on him.
"I'm Caroline's best friend. My name is Sophia."
"I've heard Caroline mention you."
Sophia took Paul outside.
"Caroline's condition is not good. The doctor said she's still in critical condition."
"I'll immediately ask Nicholas to send a medical team over." Paul hurriedly took out his phone to call Nicholas.
But the call couldn't get through.
"Damn, at a critical moment, Nicholas is unreachable!" Paul cursed.
He called Charles and Sharpe but couldn't reach them either.
Sophia and Paul stayed at the hospital for two days, and finally, there was a turn for the better.
Caroline was out of danger and had been moved from the ICU to a regular ward.
However...
The doctor said, "Her vital signs have stabilized, but she suffered severe brain trauma. She might become a vegetative state. You can try talking to her every day to stimulate her brain and observe her reactions. We'll do our best to treat her."
"What do you mean by vegetative state? Doctor, explain it to me. When will Caroline wake up?" Paul couldn't accept it.
"If things go well, she could wake up in a week. If not, it could be a month, a year, or she might never wake up."
Everyone in the room was devastated.
Lisa blacked out and fainted.
Sophia also felt like fainting.
Paul settled Lisa down and called Nicholas again.
This time, the call went through.
He hurriedly said, "Nicholas, where are you? Do you know that Caroline is now..."
