Chapter 335 Surprise, Unexpected
Caroline walked up to Josie and gently touched Josie's head, speaking softly. "Is Josie scared?"
Josie shook her head, indicating no.
"Let's stop here today. Remember to practice at home, and if your mom doesn't let you practice, tell your dad."
Nicholas specifically invited her to teach Josie violin, so he must support Josie. If Daisy opposes Josie's practice, then Nicholas should handle her.
Josie nodded obediently.
Caroline packed up to leave, but Josie held onto her. Josie was a bit afraid; after Caroline left, Daisy would surely scold her.
Caroline noticed Josie's fear and knelt down. "Later, go find Nicholas so Daisy won't dare to scold you."
Josie let go of Caroline and asked, "Roberts, will you come teach me tomorrow?"
"Sure. I'll come to check if you've learned well," Caroline answered.
"Okay, I'll wait for you." Josie suddenly felt happy, and all her fears disappeared. As long as Caroline continued to teach her, it was worth being scolded by Daisy.
Caroline looked at Josie as if she saw her own child, but sadly, her own child died at birth.
Caroline kissed Josie before leaving. This scene was witnessed by Daisy, stirring up her emotions. She glared in the direction Caroline left.
"Josie, come here!"Daisy shouted.
Josie trembled all over, lowered her head, and walked over, nodding.
"Mr. Wolf, are you okay?" Sharpe's voice brought Daisy back to her senses.
Daisy realized she almost exposed everything in front of Sharpe. If Sharpe saw her hitting Josie, he would surely tell Nicholas, who would then kick her out of the Watson family, ending any chance of marrying Nicholas.
Daisy quickly pretended to be weak, shaking her head. "I'm fine." She stood up with the help of the wall but stumbled back down.
Sharpe reached out to help Daisy but retracted his hand upon seeing her disheveled appearance, then looked away.
"Miss. Wolf, I'll have someone take you to the hospital," Sharpe said.
"No need, I'm fine. I'll wait for Nicholas to come back." Daisy realized her clothes were torn and quickly covered herself, inwardly seething, wishing she could gouge out Sharpe's eyes.
"Alright, then I'll leave." Sharpe hurried out to call Nicholas.
Daisy stared at Josie, a smile playing on her lips. "Josie, don't be afraid. Come here. I won't hurt you."
Josie shrank her shoulders, trembling, slowly moving closer to Daisy.
Daisy held Josie's hand, slipping her other hand into Josie's clothes, gripping the flesh around her waist. Josie cried out in pain.
"Does it hurt?" Daisy asked gently.
Caroline had humiliated her today, so now she would take it out on her daughter! Josie's eyes welled up with tears, but she tried hard to shake her head, indicating it didn't hurt.
"I was bullied like this just now, and yet you're still so close to the person who hit me. Do you like her? Do you want her to be your mom?" Daisy shouted.
Josie vigorously shook her head, too scared to even cry. She just endure the pain in her waist silently.
"You're so disobedient. I told you to stay away from Caroline, but you wouldn't listen. Do you know she will break up me and your dad, break up our family? If your dad and I were separated, you wouldn't have a home." Daisy hugged Josie, whispering these words that tormented Josie's heart into her ear.
Sharpe walked in again, seeing them hugging, a pitiful sight. Josie's teary eyes seemed to pity Daisy. Daisy was gentle, probably comforting Josie.
"Miss Wolf, boss asked me to take you home," Sharpe said.
Daisy stood up, holding Josie's hand.
"Alright then, "Daisy replied.
Nicholas had finished his business in the neighboring city late, and Charles had booked a hotel for him to rest there for the night. However, Nicholas had Charles drive back overnight.
It was already 2 AM when he arrived home. As they entered, the night light turned on.
"Go check on Josie first," Nicholas said.
Charles escorted Nicholas to Josie's room. Nicholas quietly opened the door but heard soft crying. His heart clenched. "Josie?"
The crying stopped.
Charles pushed him in, and in the dim light, Nicholas could see Josie cowering in the corner of the bed.
"Dad." Josie's voice, tinged with tears, was heart-wrenching in the quiet night.
"Come here," Nicholas said soften.
Josie slowly moved over, and Nicholas lifted her onto his lap. Her pretty little face was streaked with tears, her eyes as red as a rabbit's.
"Why are you crying?" Nicholas asked gently.
"I had a nightmare."
Nicholas hugged her. "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
"Dad."
"What's wrong?"
"Will you not want Josie?" Josie asked.
"Never, not ever!" Nicholas said.
Josie hugged Nicholas tightly, her nightmare haunting her—the fear that Nicholas and Daisy would abandon her, that everyone would abandon her.
Nicholas carried Josie to his room, waiting for her to fall asleep before he went to freshen up. Bythen, it was already 3AM in the morning.
The next day at kindergarten, Josie gave Emma the hair. Emma carefully put it away.
Seeing Josie looking a bit unhappy, Emma asked her, and Josie only said she had a nightmare.
To cheer Josie up, Emma playfully tickled her to make her chase after her. But as soon as she tickled Josie, Josie, trying to avoid it, bumped into the desk and let out a cry of pain.
Emma's face paled in shock. "Josie, are you okay?"
Josie held her waist.
Emma anxiously pulled at her clothes. "Let me see."
Josie tightly covered her clothes, not letting Emma see. Realizing something was wrong, Emma tugged harder, and the clothes tore open, revealing a large bruise on Josie's lower back. Emma gasped in shock.
"Josie, you've been hit!"
Josie quickly covered her mouth.
"Emma, keep it down."
Emma grabbed Josie's hand, angrily asking, "Tell me, who hit you? I'll help you get revenge."
Josie was too scared to speak, feeling flustered.
After Emma's repeated questioning, she finally spoke up. "It was Mom who pinched me."
Today, Sophia and Caroline moved together, packing up a lot of things. Employees from the moving company helped carry items upstairs, leaving them to handle the final organization.
Caroline went to the hospital in the evening.
By dusk, the packing was almost done, and Sophia was preparing to go to the Lancaster family to see the children.
As she opened the door, she saw three children coming out of the elevator.
"Mommy."
"Why are you here?" Sophia asked.
"Mommy, we're going to live here from now on." Emma bounced excitedly.
"What?"
Betty pushed Ruth out, and Ruth was smiling happily.
"We're moving today, too, and we'll be living next to you," Ruth said.
"Mommy, surprised? Unexpected?" Emma asked, bouncing with excitement.
This was indeed a huge surprise, very unexpected.
