Chapter 150 Compensation
Josie was in so much pain that tears streamed down her face, but she still managed to hold back from crying out. Caroline watched, feeling even more heartbroken. How could she endure such pain? If it were her, as an adult, she would have cried out in agony.
"If it hurts, you can cry it out. It's okay, the teacher won't make fun of you," she said, gently patting the child's head and providing some comfort.
Josie thought to herself, Miss Ann is so gentle. She...likes Miss Ann.
Moreover, Miss Ann looked so beautiful while playing the violin.
Caroline lightened her touch, and this time Josie obediently let out a "ahh" in pain.
"Does it feel better when you let it out?" Caroline smiled.
It still hurt, but after vocalizing her pain, it felt like a release in her heart. Josie obediently nodded in agreement.
Other than the injury on her hand, Josie didn't have any other injuries. Caroline carefully cleaned her clothes. Thankfully, it was cold outside and the children were wearing multiple layers. Otherwise, her knees might have been scraped as well.
Josie returned to the classroom, while Gary, the other child, had already been comforted and received education from the teacher. He apologized to Josie in the classroom, and Josie forgave him.
This incident came to an end. As for the parents' side, the lead teacher had also figured out how to handle it.
Caroline looked at the class roster for the older children and paused when she saw the name "Josie Roscente."
Roscente as the last name?
A bitter smile appeared on her lips but quickly disappeared.
...
Sophia noticed that Fiona was truly sick. Lately, she didn't know what the girl was up to, as she was being extremely attentive towards her.
During lunchtime, Fiona followed closely behind her, insisting on paying for her meal.
Since it was a free meal, Sophia didn't feel the need to be polite and even took a few extra pastries.
Larry leaned in, gossiping, "Sophia, do you have something on Miss Fiona?"
"I don't," Sophia replied nonchalantly, eating her meal leisurely.
"Then why is she suddenly so nice to you?"
"I think she probably has issues up here," Sophia pointed to her head.
Larry nodded seriously in agreement.
Sophia didn't intend to stop Fiona from being attentive. She was actually curious about what Fiona was planning to do.
After work in the afternoon, Fiona approached her again.
"Sophia, I'll give you a ride on my way home. Let me drive you back," Fiona said. She drove to and from work every day.
"No need, I have my own car."
"You bought a car?" Fiona looked pleasantly surprised. "Can I hitch a ride with you then?"
"Don't you drive yourself?" Sophia maintained her usual cold attitude.
"I sent my car for maintenance."
Hmm, Fiona was truly the master of making up stories with a straight face.
"Sure," Sophia willingly agreed to let Fiona hitch a ride.
Fiona wanted to talk to Sophia but couldn't find the right words to say.
To get close and rectify the previous bad impression, the two of them came to the parking lot after work. They met familiar colleagues on the way, who looked at them with surprise on their faces.
Who doesn't know that Fiona and Sophia had a bad relationship before? During that time, Fiona was everywhere badmouthing Sophia. It was obvious to anyone with eyes that Fiona saw Sophia as a thorn in her side. Now, the two of them were actually shaking hands and making peace?
Fiona took the initiative to sit in the passenger seat, and Sophia didn't mind at all.
On the way, Fiona kept looking for topics to talk about. When there was no topic, she forced a conversation. Sophia responded with indifference. The car would occasionally speed up and then brake suddenly. Gradually, Fiona became too scared to speak and silently grabbed onto the handle above her head.
"Sophia, are you sure we're going the right way?" Fiona looked at the direction, feeling that it was getting more and more remote.
"That's right, I know a shortcut to your house." Sophia replied, with Fiona feeling half doubtful.
"Why did we stop here?" Fiona asked again.
Sophia pointed to the small alley. "The car can't turn around once it goes in. Can you help me buy something inside this alley?"
Just when Fiona wanted to show that she was helpful, she happily agreed, "Sure, what do you want to buy?"
"Malt candy. Just walk straight to the end, and there's a small shop I really like for malt candy."
"Alright, you have to wait for me here then. I'll be back soon." Fiona got out of the car with her bag. After a few steps, she felt unsure and turned back to see Sophia still in the same spot. She then hurriedly continued walking forward.
As soon as she turned the corner, Sophia smirked and waved her hand in that direction.
"Goodbye to you."
The car's engine roared and left a cloud of dust in the air.
This alley was quiet, surrounded by dilapidated old houses that seemed like they could collapse at any moment. In a place like this, would anyone live here? Would anyone set up a stall? Could they actually sell anything?
The more Fiona thought about it, the stranger it felt. Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks, her face turning pale. She quickly turned around and ran back.
She ran back to the original spot, but it was indeed empty.
"Ah! Sophia, we're truly enemies!"
Sophia was so cunning, bringing Fiona to a godforsaken place. It was difficult to find a taxi, and it was far from her home. Fiona walked four kilometers, wearing high heels that even tore her skin, before finally flagging down a car.
Meanwhile, Sophia happily returned home carrying groceries. The three children were sitting on the sofa watching cartoons.
Seeing this scene, tears welled up in Sophia's eyes.
The family was whole again.
Today was Tuesday, and Sophia had Caroline directly pick up Sam. She had already informed David about it so Caroline could take the children away.
Tiffany had been in the hospital for three days, and Gabriel had come to visit her continuously for three days. He would stay for an hour each time before leaving. Tiffany was very dissatisfied with this.
She didn't dare say anything. She deeply felt that her position was being threatened. She didn't dare to have another quarrel with Gabriel. She knew very well that the reason Gabriel had been with her was because he fell in love with the "her" from back then when she saved him. But this love was slowly fading away because of Sam's appearance. If she were to quarrel with Gabriel again, she would only push him further away. That was not her intention, so she needed to handle it appropriately. Fortunately, Gabriel came to pick her up on the day she was discharged from the hospital.
Tiffany wanted to hold his hand and leave the ward together, but Gabriel carried his bag and walked out while talking on the phone. After getting into the car, Gabriel spoke up, "I've found a nanny for you. Take this time to rest at home." "Okay," Tiffany obediently replied. "Don't worry about Alfred. I'll have someone continue to investigate his whereabouts." Even after so many days, they still hadn't found any clues. Perhaps, this time, he had misunderstood Tiffany, and guilt began to grow in Gabriel's heart. He planned to make it up to her. "Accompany me to this year's annual meeting," Gabriel said. Tiffany looked at him in surprise, "Really?" In previous years, as the chairman and CEO of Lancaster Group, Gabriel was supposed to attend the annual meeting with his wife.
During his marriage to Sophia, Gabriel believed that his relationship with her would eventually come to an end. Therefore, he never took Sophia to any events. As Mr. Lancaster's girlfriend, Tiffany had always wanted to attend the annual meeting as Gabriel's wife, but Madam Fu intervened and never let her step in even once.
