Chapter 243 Tiffany Took Sam Away
Gabriel looked at Tiffany piercingly, his tone grave. "Did he come to see you yesterday?"
Tiffany quickly regained her composure.
"Yes, he came asking for money, and I gave him the last of what I had."
She thought with these words, Gabriel would definitely hand her a card, domineeringly tell her it had no spending limit, and to use it as she pleased.
However, reality begged to differ.
"Since you're not living in that apartment anymore, you could rent it out. The rental income could temporarily ease your current financial woes. You might also want to consider selling it to recoup some funds for investment."
Tiffany's expression froze. She stammered, "I don't want to sell it. It was my first apartment, and you were the one who showed it to me."
Gabriel didn't say anything more, nor did he offer her any money.
He had already helped Tiffany numerous times, even helping her establish her counseling room, but she had squandered it all away.
Now she was in this predicament, and he wasn't about to play the philanthropist again.
Besides, Tiffany was capable and wouldn't starve.
Tiffany waited, but the card she hoped for from Gabriel never came. The atmosphere in the office grew excessively cold and still.
"What are you planning to do with my uncle?"
"That's up to you," Gabriel said. "You decide how you want to handle it."
Her uncle was within her reach, and if Tiffany so desired, she could drive him out of the city without any trouble.
Tiffany choked up for a moment.
"I'll talk with my uncle first, see if giving him some money might keep him in line," she said.
"Suit yourself."
After walking out of the CEO's office, Tiffany returned to her desk and stared at the computer screen, a flash of determination glinting in her eyes.
Gabriel was growing more distant by the day. He was barely involved in her affairs now.
What was she to do?
She had to mend their relationship, to reconcile with Gabriel.
That's right, Gabriel cared a great deal about Sam. His marriage had to be approved by Sam.
Monday was an early dismissal day at the daycare, and Ethan and Emma were supposed to bring Sam home. Sam wanted to visit his mom's place, but before he could agree, David appeared, followed by Tiffany.
"Sam," Tiffany greeted with a tender smile.
Ethan and Emma were taken by surprise as if they had run into a villain.
Tiffany glanced at them with an indifferent gaze, completely ignoring their presence.
"I'm here to pick you up from school. Let's go find your daddy and then we can all have dinner together."
Previously, Tiffany often picked Sam up to dine with Gabriel, so neither Sam nor David suspected anything, and thus, they prepared to leave with Sam.
"Sam!" Emma called out to him.
Sam wrestled free from Tiffany's grip and signed. "I'll go back with you tomorrow."
Emma wanted to say more, but Ethan pulled her back.
A teacher noticed that Emma and Ethan hadn’t boarded the school bus and approached them.
"Emma, Ethan, what are you still doing here? Get on the bus," the teacher said.
"Miss, our godmother said she would take us home, we're not taking the bus today," Ethan replied.
The daycare was well aware that these two children were Caroline's godson and goddaughter, so without any confusion, the driver was informed to depart.
Caroline was still talking with the principal when Ethan and Emma called her.
"Godmom, the bad lady took Sam away."
"The bad lady?" She didn't catch on at first.
"The Foster woman."
"What!"
Caroline hurriedly excused herself from the principal and ran off.
Sophia was busy sewing on her machine when her phone rang on the side. She insisted on finishing the sleeve before picking up the phone.
"Hello, Caroline?"
"It's bad. Tiffany's taken Sam."
"Taken him where?"
"I don't know, I heard from Ethan and Emma that they're going out to eat with Gabriel."
Sophia's temper soared at the thought. What was Gabriel playing at? Did he still want Tiffany to bond with Sam? If Tiffany were a good person, Sophia might not mind—ultimately she'd take Sam away anyway. However, with someone as venomous as Tiffany, how could she trust her with Sam? Who knows what Tiffany might do to him once Sophia wasn't around?
After ending the call with Caroline, Sophia got up and marched to the bathroom to call Gabriel. As soon as the call connected, she couldn't help but to unleash a low growl.
"Gabriel, what the hell are you thinking? Sam's just started getting better and you can't wait to push him into Tiffany's arms? If you don't love Sam, then just give him to me!"
In the conference room, everyone was staring at Gabriel, mouths agape. Sophia's loud voice had leaked through the phone for all to hear. Gabriel's face turned a shade darker.
"What are you talking about? When have I ever made them spend time together?"
Since the Alfred incident, he'd kept Tiffany away from Sam. And now that there was no chance of a future with Tiffany, he certainly wouldn't push for her to bond with Sam.
"Then why did Tiffany pick up Sam from school?"
"I didn't ask her to pick up Sam."
Sophia scoffed, clearly disbelieving. "Where are Tiffany and Sam right now?"
"I'll have someone check."
Sophia hung up the phone with a sneer. She wouldn't get any useful information from Gabriel. She tried to call David but couldn't get through.
After a short while, Gabriel sent her a location. Surprised, Sophia quickly gathered her belongings.
In the mall, Tiffany cast an impatient glance at David. "I told you I'll protect Sam and that I'd bring him to Gabriel. You can go back now, we don't need you here."
David stood firm, his imposing figure unmoving, his expression serious. "The boss said I should stick with Sam at all times."
The last time Miss Foster sent him to buy coffee, he'd come back to a scolding from the boss and a docked bonus. He wasn't going to make the same mistake again.
"What kind of image are you presenting, just standing there?" Tiffany's tone was sharp.
"The boss said I should stick with Sam at all times."
No matter what Tiffany said, David had only one response.
Tiffany, frustrated to the point of pain in her chest, finally gave up on addressing him. She turned her attention back to winning over Sam.
"Isn't this your favorite? Why aren't you eating?" Tiffany picked up a piece of pastry to feed Sam, but Sam turned away, and the pastry smacked right onto his soft little cheek.
"You..." Tiffany was fuming, wanting to lash out, but with David looking on, she had to suppress her anger.
"Since you don't feel like eating right now, let's pack it up and take it home. You can have it when you're ready. Let's go buy you some clothes." Tiffany asked the waiter to wrap up the pastries, and then took Sam to the children's clothing section.
Tiffany picked out several outfits for Sam to try on, but Sam refused to move. Tiffany, holding back her irritation, bought all of the clothes and handed them to David to carry. Then they headed to the children's shoe department.
Sophia searched through the vast mall, easily spotting David's tall figure. They were going upstairs, and she hurried to catch up.
"Sam!"
She called out, and Sam stopped, turning around with delight at the sight of his mommy rushing up from downstairs. His heart leaped with joy. Mommy was here.
