Chapter 539 Plastic Surgery

Celeste's voice cut through the air, and Sophia let go of Patricia like she was on fire and walked in.

"Grandma Celeste." Sophia's eyes were all worried.

Celeste's tension melted away when she saw Sophia, and she felt all warm and fuzzy inside.

"What brings you here?"

"I came with Grandma Ruth to check on you."

Betty helped Ruth in.

Patricia was sweating bullets, thinking Ruth and Sophia might spill the beans to Celeste, but she couldn't do squat about it.

She just stood there, fuming.

"Sophie, the new year’s almost here. You gotta bring the kids to visit me then."

Celeste held Sophia's hand, checking if she was okay. Watching them, Patricia felt a stab of jealousy. They looked like a real family.

She clenched her fists, trying to keep it together.

The paternity test was still on the coffee table. Patricia made a quick move to snatch it before Sophia and Ruth could see it and start asking questions.

But Ruth's eagle eyes spotted it first and grabbed the report before Patricia could.

"Patricia really is your granddaughter."

Celeste gave a faint smile and stayed quiet.

Patricia was ticked off but kept it cool. She had to play nice and smile.

"Of course, I'm my grandmother's real granddaughter. Ruth, you..."

Ruth cut her off, "What's your dad's name? What's your mom's name? Why's your last name Brown?"

Patricia was caught off guard.

She thought, 'Can I say in front of Sophia that my mom is Susan? No way!'

If she did, Sophia and Ruth would shut her down, and Celeste's doubts might come back.

Patricia was stuck and had to dodge the question.

"I took my mom's last name."

"Wait, so if you took your mom's last name, it would be George, right? Patricia George?"

"I don't have the last name George, and neither does my mom."

Patricia cursed under her breath, 'Ruth's just here to stir the pot.'

"To become a rich family's daughter, Patricia, you even deny your own birth mother!" Ruth's eyes were like daggers, making Patricia feel like she was suffocating.

Patricia snapped, "Ella is not my birth mother, she's not!"

"Then who is?"

"My birth mother is..." Patricia stopped herself just in time, almost falling into Ruth's trap.

Ruth calmly answered for her, "Your birth mother is Susan, and your birth father is Francis, right?"

Patricia, thinking she found a way out, nodded like crazy, then realized she messed up. She quickly kneeled in front of Celeste, hugging her leg.

"Grandma, I really am your granddaughter. Why don't you believe me and let these outsiders grill me like this?"

"You even said I looked like you when you were young. Doesn't that mean anything?"

Patricia's tears started flowing.

Celeste loved her too much to see her in pain.

She shouldn't have listened to Ella's advice to play along when she overheard at the hospital. She should have shut Ruth down right away.

"And didn't you redo the paternity test, Grandma? You really gonna let these outsiders mess up our family?"

Celeste's heart skipped a beat. Her face was a blank slate, impossible to read.

Sophia held Celeste's hand, feeling it cold as ice. She gently rubbed it, trying to warm it up.

Ruth sneered.

"You say you look like Celeste when she was young? Patricia, you got no shame."

Patricia, red-faced and fuming, yelled, "Shut up, you old witch! You're just trying to tear us apart. I respect you as Gabriel's grandma, so I don't argue with you, but you keep trash-talking me in front of my grandma."

"When did I trash-talk you? Where did I say it?" Ruth shot back, just as angry.

Patricia blurted out, "That time at the hospital..."

She clammed up, realizing she slipped.

Ruth smirked, "So it was you eavesdropping last time. You also heard about the paternity test redo, so this test is fake, swapped by the Browns!"

"You're lying! We didn't even know you were doing a paternity test." Patricia denied it all.

"It doesn't matter if you don't admit it." Ruth raised her hand calmly.

James pulled a document from his briefcase and handed it to her.

Ruth passed it to Celeste.

"Celeste, check this out, and you'll know why she looks like you."

Patricia's right eyelid twitched like crazy. She stared at the document, feeling a bad vibe.

She wanted to grab it, but Ruth's icy stare froze her in place.

Celeste opened it.

It was a plastic surgery contract.

After Sophia married Gabriel, Patricia, unable to marry Gabriel, went a bit nuts. She thought Gabriel must have liked Sophia, which is why he married her.

So Patricia went abroad to get plastic surgery to look like Sophia.

She dropped a ton of cash to make it look natural.

With some daily makeup, the surgery marks were almost invisible.

But even so, in the five years after Sophia's fake death, Gabriel never looked at Patricia, even keeping Tiffany by his side.

Celeste's hand shook slightly as she looked at Patricia. Her gaze was unreadable but made Patricia feel super panicked.

She grabbed Celeste's clothes.

"Grandma, these are fake, all fake. Contracts can be forged. Grandma, they just want to tear us apart."

Celeste asked calmly, "Did you have plastic surgery?"

Patricia felt that if she didn't spill the truth, she was done for. She thought for a moment and nodded after half a minute of silence.

"I did, but it was because of appearance anxiety, and I only did a little."

Patricia argued, "I only had double eyelid surgery and a nose job, nothing else. Grandma, you gotta believe me."

Ruth rolled her eyes. Even now, Patricia refused to admit the truth.

Sophia, who had been quiet all this time, suddenly laughed.
