Chapter 345 Habit Was to Protect
After dinner, Gabriel took the initiative to take on the task of washing dishes again.
He was washing dishes alone in the kitchen when Emma walked in, saying, "Bad daddy, mommy wants a massage bathtub."
Gabriel smiled gently. "Okay, I got it, and what about you?"
"I want to switch to a tablet," Emma said.
"And Ethan?" Gabriel asked.
Emma replied, "Give him a high-end computer."
Gabriel said, "Sam, let's set up a studio for him."
Emma stood with her hands on her hips. "Bad daddy, don't think that by doing these things, you can earn our approval. The probation period is not over yet; you need to work harder."
Gabriel said, "Okay, I will continue to work hard!"
Emma left satisfied.
Then Ethan walked in.
He crossed his arms like a little adult, looking up and down at Gabriel as if he were a foreman.
"Don't think that Emma and Sam like you, so I will accept you. You have caused so much distress to Mommy. If mommy doesn't forgive you, I won't either," He said.
Gabriel looked at Ethan gently. "Yes, I know I was a jerk before, causing you and Emma to suffer so much with Mommy outside. Don't worry; it won't happen again in the future."
Ethan gruffly said, "Hurry up and wash!"
Gabriel, feeling helpless and a dignified CEO, was being supervised by his son while washing dishes.
Looking at his hands full of dish soap foam, he glanced at the fridge and furrowed his brow.
Alex's work was becoming more and more perfunctory. He had someone replace the furniture and appliances in the house with new ones, but such a small fridge, not even a dishwasher!
Alex, who was watching a drama while eating, suddenly felt a chill and looked around.
'Forget it, let's change the show; suspense isn't suitable for me,' Alex thought.
In the living room, Jennifer watched Gabriel come out of the kitchen with clean dishes, her eyes squinting slightly.
"Mr. Blackwood." Gabriel walked over, ignoring Sophia's eyes and urging him to leave. He sat down next to her.
David smiled faintly and looked at Sophia. "Sophia, I need to use your study."
"Okay, it's over there." Sophia pointed in the direction of the study.
David stood up. "Mr. Lancaster, shall we talk?"
Gabriel had no choice but to follow David to the study.
Jennifer took a sip of coffee and inquired of Sophia, "How come Gabriel is living next door to you?"
Speaking on the matter, Sophia felt rather disheartened.
Feeling no need for concealment with Jennifer, Sophia proceeded to disclose the fact that she had sold her house and rented anew.
"So this is Mrs. Lancaster's idea," Jennifer said.
After dinner, Ruth went back to rest next door, and the three children were playing upstairs. At this moment, only Jennifer and Sophia were left in the living room.
"Sophia, if Gabriel dares to bully you again, don't be afraid. Tell David and me, we will take care of him."
Now Sophia was also part of the Blackwood family, and the Blackwood family's tradition was to protect their own. If Gabriel dared to bully Sophia again, the Blackwood family would make sure Gabriel regretted it.
Sophia felt warm in her heart and moved closer, holding Jennifer's arm, saying, "Godmother, don't worry. I will also protect myself."
Jennifer lovingly patted Sophia's head.
In the study, a battle of heavyweights ensued. David's imposing presence fixed Gabriel under scrutiny.
Gabriel sat calmly across from him.
David got straight to the point. "What are your intentions towards my daughter Sophia, Mr. Lancaster?"
Since the day he acknowledged Sophia as his goddaughter, David had already considered Sophia part of his family.
He had also learned about Gabriel's relationship with Sophia from his wife.
Gabriel showed a hint of guilt and said, "I didn't understand my own feelings before, which led to hurting Sophia. I owe her too much. Now I just want to make amends."
David furrowed his brow. "Some wounds, even if healed, still leave scars."
Gabriel fell silent. He knew he couldn't erase the scars he had left on Sophia's heart, so he could only spend the rest of his life repenting and making amends.
After a few seconds, David stared sharply at him. "I can't do anything about the past, but from now on, Sophia is my daughter, a member of the Blackwood family. If you ever try to bully her again, you'll have to think twice about provoking the Blackwood family."
Gabriel chuckled. "Rest assured. I won't give the Blackwood family a chance to intervene."
David admired this outstanding young man, Gabriel, who had become the richest man in his thirties, showing exceptional skills and intelligence.
David knew little about Gabriel and Sophia's love story, only that Gabriel had let Sophia down.
Now that he considered Sophia his daughter, his admiration for Gabriel had diminished instantly, and he found fault with Gabriel in every aspect.
"Mr. Blackwood, do you still want that piece of land?" Gabriel asked.
David's expression changed as he asked, "Are you willing to sell?"
"It's a good piece of land, and that house is also a good one. I originally wanted to rebuild it into a new laboratory, but it seems that Mr. Blackwood needs that land more than I do," Gabriel said.
A strange look flashed in David's eyes.
He had just given Gabriel a warning, and now he was worried that Gabriel might not sell him the land. He should have secured the land before giving Gabriel the warning.
David smiled slightly. "Indeed, I need that land more than Mr. Lancaster. I believe you have also found out that the old house used to be the residence of the Blackwood family. My mother is getting old and wants to return to her homeland, so I want to buy the land back to build the old house. I hope Mr. Lancaster can fulfill her wish."
After David finished speaking, there was silence in the study for a dozen seconds.
"Since it's an old person's wish, I will certainly fulfill it. I will have someone contact Mr. Blackwood tomorrow," Gabriel replied.
David said, "Thank you for your generosity, Mr. Lancaster."
"You're welcome."
They had a pleasant conversation afterward, and when they came out, they both had smiles of satisfaction on their faces.
"It's getting late, we should go back." David took Jennifer's hand.
"I'll walk you out." Sophia escorted them to the door. Gabriel followed behind Sophia. It looked like he and Sophia were seeing off David and his wife together.
Until the elevator doors closed, Sophia turned around, her gaze meeting Gabriel's deep eyes, and her heart skipped a beat.
"I'll go rest, too." Gabriel spoke gently, his voice slightly husky and magnetic, very charming.
Other women might have screamed upon hearing it, but Sophia just gave him a cold glance before walking past him and closing the door behind her.
Gabriel sighed softly.
Sophia leaned against the door, raising her hand to her chest, staring blankly at a spot lost in thought.
In the hospital, Tiffany lay on the sickbed, her face greatly swollen, with a gauze wound about her head.
She stared blankly at the ceiling.
Tears fell from the corners of her eyes, eventually disappearing into the pillow.
