Chapter 60 Evading Suspicions

Last night, despite her thorough preparation, Gabriel had consumed the water with the special ingredient, yet he remained so alert and rejected her advances with such resolute words.

With the child present, Tiffany dared not say anything, and the two of them remained silent throughout the journey.

On Sophia's side, she rushed to the station and took a bus back while leaving the rented car with the landlord in the area. The two adorable darlings obediently settled beside their mommy.

After two hours, the bus stopped at a gas station, and Sophia and the two children followed everyone off the bus and waited.

When it was time to board the bus again, Gabriel's car also pulled up for refueling.

Upon stopping, Gabriel noticed Sophia among the passengers boarding the nearby bus. She limped, with two young children in front of her, and they struggled to get on the bus amidst the crowd.

Every now and then, she protected the two children.

Gabriel's heart skipped a beat when he caught sight of that pair of children. From afar, he couldn't discern their facial features clearly, but they felt familiar to him.

Beside Sophia, a woman helped the two children onto the bus before boarding herself.

Gabriel witnessed this scene and relaxed slightly, albeit a flicker of disappointment swept across his expression.

He had thought those two children were still alive, hidden away by Sophia.

Thinking about those unfortunate children, Gabriel's heart ached sharply. At times, he wondered if they were still alive, would Sam still be autistic if they were together?

A service attendant outside knocked on the car window, and Gabriel snapped back to reality.

On the other hand, Sophia remained unaware that her two precious babies had nearly been discovered by Gabriel.

Luckily, a kind-hearted person helped Ethan and Emma onto the bus, making Gabriel believe they were the children of the woman. Thus, she evaded Gabriel's suspicions.

Tiffany, on the other hand, didn't notice the bus at all. Her attention was entirely focused on Gabriel, ignoring everything else around her.

After returning to City Beijing, Gabriel dropped her off at home without saying much and then took Sam back to the old mansion.

As soon as Sam arrived, he settled in his room and messaged Ethan.

Ethan had just arrived home as well when his watch vibrated. Surprised by Sam's message, he responded with a reply, "We're back too."

What a coincidence! They went at the same time and returned at the same time.

Because they returned half a day earlier than expected and didn't get to fully enjoy their vacation, Sophia felt guilty towards the two children.

"It's mommy's fault this time. Next time, mommy will make sure to accompany you on a proper vacation." Sophia felt remorseful.

Ethan and Emma showed their understanding, assuring her that it didn't bother them.

"But mommy got hurt too," Emma said, hugging her mom with concern.

Ethan's eyes were filled with tenderness as well.

Sophia felt so comforted; she must have done a lot of good deeds in her past life to be blessed with these three angelic babies.

She only hoped she could introduce the other child to them soon.

"What? An angel is also returning home?"

Sophia rested at home in the afternoon and diligently applied medicine to her foot. The next day, her foot felt much better, although walking still caused some pain.

When she arrived at the office, everyone greeted her and Sophia could only explain that she had accidentally sprained her foot while going downstairs.

"You're really unlucky. We're about to launch new products, and you injured your foot," Larry sympathized with Sophia.

Sophia shrugged it off, saying, "My foot will be fine on the day of the launch."

The landlord of her Airbnb had some medical knowledge and confirmed that she hadn't sprained any ligaments or bones. She just needed to apply medicine daily, and it would be nearly healed within a week.

"Sophia, did you find the fabric you were looking for?" Charlotte asked, concerned.

Sophia shook her head. She had already tried all possible solutions.

"What are you going to do then?"

The new product launch was happening next week. If Sophia couldn't make a sample garment this week, she would be one product short, and how could she possibly compete with Kathy Caroline?

"It's okay, I can manage even with one less new product."

Margaret called Sophia, who informed the other two before slowly walking towards Margaret's office.

"It's indeed difficult to find this fabric. I even asked my industry friends, and they are also in short supply. Do you have any other designs that can substitute it?"

"No, I was planning on just presenting two pieces."

Margaret frowned, "Two pieces are too few. During a new product launch, each designer should have at least three new pieces. You'll be at a disadvantage compared to Kathy Caroline."

"It's alright. I'll leave the outcome to fate."

If she was destined to lose this time, she could only accept it temporarily and figure it out later.

"If it really doesn't work out, I'll ask the boss for help. But the chances are slim. The boss usually doesn't get involved in such small matters," Margaret admitted, feeling uncertain.

Normally, they wouldn't report such matters to the boss, but this time, she had a personal desire not to let Sophia lose. Sophia was truly talented as a junior designer.

Margaret wanted to promote her, but a sudden promotion would create dissatisfaction among the rest of the design team. Only by using this opportunity to let Sophia win the competition could Margaret legitimately promote her to a senior position.

Sophia understood Margaret's good intentions and was deeply touched. She didn't object to Margaret seeking Gabriel's assistance because if she could really get the fabric, her chances of winning would improve significantly.

Margaret approached Alex for guidance and learned that the boss was in the office, so she went to the general manager's office to find someone.

After two days of rest, Gabriel had accumulated a lot of work and was busy from the moment he arrived.

When Margaret entered, he was busy signing documents and asked without lifting his head, "What's the matter?"

Margaret explained the situation about Sophia's fabric shortage.

"I've seen that design, and it's indeed good. It might even become the flagship product for this new release. If it's because of a lack of fabric..."

It's a pity that it can't be released for various reasons. After all, these clothes are only for one season. If they go out of season, who knows if this element will still be popular next year."

Gabriel still didn't look up, signing the documents with a flourish of his pen.

"How do you say 'purchase'?"

"The purchasing department said it would take a month to respond to the order, which is simply not enough time."

"Okay, I understand."

In Margaret's mind, she wondered if this could be resolved or not. However, she didn't dare to inquire too clearly and could only leave for now.

Sophia didn't hold much hope either. The fact that Margaret managed to gather the courage to ask Gabriel for help had already surprised her. If all else failed, she could only settle for two pieces.

Sophia looked at the ruined sample garment, the coffee stains on it wouldn't come out no matter how hard she tried. It was as if pure white jade had been tainted with ink.

Wait... ink?

That's right!

A spark of inspiration flashed in Sophia's mind, and she immediately started working on it.

She quickly grabbed a pair of scissors, made some quick cuts, and then urgently went to find Larry for help with the dye.

Larry was busy operating the sewing machine, but when he saw Sophia's urgent expression, he quickly set aside his work and went to assist her.
