Chapter 748 Don't Forget Me
Everyone was stunned.
Ashley herself was also stunned.
The slap was faster than her mind; she didn't even realize what she had done.
This was the second time Ashley had slapped Joseph since they broke up.
The first slap was when she found out Joseph had a mistress and an illegitimate child.
At that time, Paul was still young, and he loved following Nicholas around, so Paul was sent to live with the Aragorn family.
Back then, their interests were intertwined, and she couldn't get a divorce. She had to endure it, but she didn't expect Joseph's business was flourishing, and he even openly provided the best education and living conditions for his illegitimate child.
As for their son Paul, Joseph would only ask about him when he was in a good mood, as if Paul didn't exist in the rest of the time.
It wasn't until Paul was thirteen and began to realize something was wrong with his parents that he returned to Country Y to stay with Ashley.
Joseph glared at Ashley with a fierce look, clenched his fists, two finger marks appearing on his cheek.
"Ashley!" he gritted his teeth, as if he was about to hit her the next second.
Ashley instinctively shrank back.
She had long seen Joseph's ruthlessness and fully believed that if he was extremely angry, he would definitely hit her. She had always lived a pampered life and couldn't possibly fight against the tall and burly Joseph.
Paul reached out and pulled Ashley behind him. He raised his chin, standing half a head taller than Joseph, and faced his father without any fear.
"What, have you become so pathetic that you need to vent your anger on your wife?"
Paul's sarcasm pushed Joseph's anger to the limit.
"You..." Joseph raised his hand, intending to slap Paul, but Paul showed a mocking smile.
"Think it through. If you hit me, our father-son relationship will be completely over, and the Thomas Group will have nothing to do with me."
"You should know my temper well. I'm so arrogant that I can do anything."
Joseph remembered seven years ago when Ashley got sick from anger, and Paul immediately flew back from the Country Y He hired some thugs to scare Joseph's mistress half to death in the middle of the night.
Joseph felt a surge of anger stuck in his chest, unable to come out or dissipate, and his cheek was burning with pain.
Ashley hid behind Paul, looking at his tall and broad back, her eyes reddening.
She thought she was incapable. After all these years, she still hadn't fought for anything for Paul, and now she even needed Paul to protect her.
"We'll return to the Country Y tomorrow," Ashley said calmly.
Joseph had achieved his goal and didn't want to say more. He snorted coldly and left.
He stayed in a hotel, and the Watson family wouldn't give him a room.
Gummidge had also been frightened by Joseph's fierce look. She clutched her phone, almost calling the police.
"Paul, go find Nicholas," Gummidge reminded.
Paul nodded.
Over an hour later, Paul arrived at the Wolf Mansion.
Nicholas was playing in the snow with Josie in the yard. When Paul arrived, they went inside to talk.
"Nicholas, I'm going back."
Paul was unusually serious.
Nicholas said, "That's good. The sooner you handle things, the better."
"Yeah." Paul felt uncertain. This time, he was prepared for a life-or-death struggle.
With Preston's means, if he lost, he might lose his life.
Paul hesitated to speak.
Nicholas glanced at him and analyzed, "Given your current situation, a marriage alliance would be beneficial, but marriage is a lifelong matter. You can meet her, and if you don't like her, then don't get married."
Paul nodded obediently.
"Nicholas, you and Caroline should be happy."
Nicholas replied, "We will be."
"Nicholas, you and Caroline, don't forget about me."
Nicholas was silent.
"If I can't make it to your wedding, save me a spot."
"I'll send you the wedding gift later."
"Josie is quite lonely by herself. Visit her occasionally."
"I promised Josie I'd take her to the amusement park for her next birthday, but I probably can't fulfill that."
Paul spoke as if he were leaving his last words, saying whatever came to mind.
Nicholas was speechless.
"You won't die!"
Paul was surprised, "How do you know? What if? After all, their means are unpredictable."
"I said you won't die, so you won't. Try talking back again!"
Paul immediately shut his mouth.
Nicholas was truly terrifying.
After leaving The Wolf Mansion, Paul went to see Charles's son, Trevor.
He really had a father-son bond with Trevor.
Trevor's small, tender hand grasped Paul's finger, and he smiled adorably.
Paul's heart melted.
Maybe getting married and having children wouldn't be so bad.
He could be as loving and happy as Nicholas and Caroline, rather than becoming enemies like his parents.
After seeing Trevor, Paul saw Christina from a distance.
He raised his hand to greet her.
"Hi, Miss Mitchell."
Christina didn't look pleased when she saw him. She muttered "scumbag" under her breath and turned into a hospital room.
Because she was distant, Paul didn't hear Christina's insult, but he saw the look of disgust in her eyes.
Paul touched his nose. Oh well, he was going back to the Country Y anyway. He didn't know if he would survive to return or not.
After finishing her rounds and returning to her office, Christina received a call from the director.
"Miss Mitchell, I have good news for you."
"What good news?"
"There's an academic exchange in the Country Y. The dean wants me to take two outstanding young people, and I recommended you. Prepare for the handover of your work and get ready to go home."
"What?"
She had only been back for a year, and now she had to leave again.
If her mom found out, she would definitely cry and worry that Christina wouldn't come back.
Christina was helpless, but this was a good opportunity for her. Maybe after the exchange, she would get promoted in the hospital.
Sure enough, when Christina went home that night and told Seraphina and Lucas about going abroad, Seraphina hugged her and sighed.
Christina had to comfort her and repeatedly promised that it was just an exchange and she would be back in about six months.
The next day, Paul and Ashley boarded the plane.
Joseph tried hard to act like a loving father. After boarding, he showed Paul photos on his iPad.
"You didn't like the last girl. This time, this one is a noble princess from the Country Y. Look, she's so beautiful and elegant."
Paul thought Joseph was acting like a businessman.
"After we land, you and your mom can rest for a day, then you start working at the company. We'll arrange a meeting with her over the weekend."
Paul remained silent the entire time, letting Joseph make all the arrangements.
This time, Paul didn't encounter any danger after landing.
It was quite beneficial to be protected by Joseph; at least Preston wouldn't dare to act rashly.
