Chapter 411 Injured Body
Ben got to the restaurant early and stood up when the door opened.
"Caroline."
He was shocked to see Caroline in a wheelchair with a little girl next to her.
He rushed over to help, worried. "What happened? Why are you in a wheelchair?"
Clearly, a lot had happened to Caroline while he was away from City B.
"I had a car accident. I'm okay, just need to rest and heal," Caroline said with a smile.
Ben looked concerned. "Did they catch the driver?"
"No, he got away."
Ben frowned and asked for more details, then turned to the little girl. "Is this your friend's daughter?"
Caroline replied, "She is my daughter, Josie."
Ben remembered Caroline mentioning a goddaughter and assumed this was her.
He handed the menu to Josie. "Order whatever you like. It's on me."
Josie clung to Caroline, glancing at Ben cautiously.
"Go ahead," Caroline encouraged, opening the menu for her.
With Caroline's support, Josie slowly warmed up.
When the food arrived, Ben raised his glass of lemon water. "I didn't expect that producer to be so unethical. Consider this my apology."
Caroline quickly responded, "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have had that job. I should be thanking you."
They smiled and sipped their drinks.
The meal was pleasant, and they had a great conversation.
Afterward, Ben wanted to take Caroline to a movie, but she declined because Josie needed her nap.
As Ben pushed Caroline out, they ran into Daisy.
Daisy was pregnant and eager to show off. She had been shopping with friends and buying baby items.
Her jealousy flared as she saw Caroline.
She puffed out her belly, trying to show off, but then noticed the man with Caroline.
'Is he Caroline's suitor?' she wondered. 'And that ungrateful child, Josie!'
"Caroline, out with Josie and your lover? Did you ask Nicholas? Did he agree to you finding a stepfather for Josie?" Daisy sneered.
"Josie, come here," Daisy said, beckoning.
Caroline frowned and held Josie's hand tightly.
Josie trembled at Daisy's voice.
"Don't be scared. I'm here," Caroline comforted her.
Josie didn't move.
Daisy was furious, wanting to pinch Josie.
'With Caroline around, Josie has forgotten about me, her foster mother. How ungrateful!'
Caroline turned to Ben. "This place attracts awful people. Let's not come here again."
Ben didn't get it at first, but when he saw Daisy's darkened face, he laughed.
"Yeah, let's get out of here," Ben said, ready to push Caroline away.
But Daisy, now pregnant and more temperamental, blocked their path with open arms.
"Sir, you seem like a decent guy, so let me warn you. Caroline is not a good person. She's vain, materialistic, and promiscuous. She got pregnant before marriage..."
"So what? What's it to you?" Ben cut her off coldly.
He knew Daisy but wasn't close to her. She always looked down on others and wouldn't remember most people she met.
He couldn't believe someone like Nicholas had such a mean wife.
"You!" Daisy was speechless with anger. She grabbed Josie's hand in a fit of rage. "Josie, come here."
Josie turned pale with fright. Caroline held onto Josie's other hand and shouted, "Daisy, let go of Josie!"
"No!"
Caroline was so angry she almost jumped out of her wheelchair. Ben stepped in, prying Daisy's hand off Josie.
Daisy took the opportunity to fall backward.
Her friends' faces changed, and they quickly came to support her.
"My belly," Daisy groaned in pain.
Ben didn't even look at Daisy. He picked up Josie and pushed the wheelchair with one hand as they left.
"Daisy, are you okay?" Daisy's friend asked anxiously.
Daisy's pained expression gradually returned to normal, and she weakly let her friend help her up.
With Caroline gone, there was no one left to watch her act.
She could only curse her friend for being an idiot for not stopping them.
The people in the restaurant only glanced from a distance.
Daisy lost her appetite and asked her friend to take her home.
Back at the Wolf family home, Daisy started crying as soon as she got back, exaggerating the incident at the restaurant.
Linda was there chatting with Mia. When she heard Daisy say that Caroline pushed her despite her pregnancy, she was slightly surprised.
"Are you feeling unwell?" Linda asked.
"It hurt a bit at first, but it stopped hurting later," Daisy cried.
"You should still go to the hospital for a check-up," Mia said, worried.
Linda agreed.
So, Mia took Daisy to the hospital for a check-up, and Linda, also worried, accompanied them.
After examination, the doctor's expression was somewhat serious.
"There are some issues, but fortunately, they're not severe. The pregnant woman should avoid heavy and strenuous activities and keep her emotions stable. The first three months are the most dangerous period, so be careful."
"Yes, thank you, doctor."
The three of them left the hospital. Mia, usually gentle, was so angry that she lost her composure and said to Linda, "Linda, please take Daisy home. I have something to do."
"Where are you going?" Linda asked, concerned.
"I'm going to find Caroline."
Linda wanted to say more, but seeing Daisy's pale face, she agreed and took Daisy home.
At Heights Hill Villa, Josie had finished her nap and was practicing the violin, with Caroline guiding her.
Suddenly, there was a commotion outside.
Molly came out of the kitchen to see what was happening.
The door was suddenly kicked open, and a group of people barged in. Leading them was Mia, who glared at Caroline with fierce eyes.
"You bitch. So, Nicholas doesn't want to come home because of you."
