Chapter 458 Blaming Her
Gabriel's fingers slowly curled, then quickly relaxed. He shot Jake a cold look but stayed silent.
Sophia stepped out and said goodbye to Jake, "I'll be going now. Seeyou."
"See you." Jake watched her get into the car with Gabriel, feeling uneasy, his gaze dark and inscrutable.
Grant approached Jake, wanting to ask if he had any regrets.
Jake's indifferent voice cut through. "You should head back to Country M tomorrow."
Ignoring Grant's shock, Jake got into his car and drove off.
Halfway through the drive, Gabriel got a call from Alex. "No need to look for her, we're together now."
Hearing Gabriel's response, Sophia's heart trembled. 'Gabriel must have been looking for me, right?'
"Sorry, I..." Sophia felt a bit guilty, not expecting Gabriel to be so worried.
"As long as you're okay," Gabriel said gently.
"Can your body handle leaving the hospital like this?"
"I'm fine," Gabriel replied.
Sophia frowned. "You should go back to the hospital."
"It's okay, I'll stay home tonight and get a check-up tomorrow. If everything's fine, I want to be discharged."
Gabriel had wanted to leave the hospital for a while, but the doctors insisted on more observation. Sophia felt conflicted.
The rest of the drive was silent. Sophia didn't explain why she didn't visit him at the hospital, and Gabriel didn't ask.
The three kids were unaware of any of this. They assumed Sophia was at the hospital with Gabriel.
Emma was upset, thinking Gabriel had taken Sophia away. Even in her sleep, she pouted.
Sophia checked on the kids before going to bed, but couldn't sleep. Thinking about everything that happened, she felt something was off, but Jake's words were convincing. He said she fainted, took her to the hospital, and had tests done.
The test reports were real, so maybe she just had low blood sugar.
Gabriel was also thinking about this. He remembered how Sophia took care of him after he was injured. She hadn't gone to work for days, focusing solely on him. Even though the hospital had caregivers, Sophia did many things herself.
Gabriel regretted pretending to be weak to gain her sympathy. Whether or not Sophia was exhausted from taking care of him, she was indeed very tired during that time.
The next day, Sophia found a lavish breakfast spread on the table.
"Mommy, Daddy had the chef make all this just for you," Emma said jealously, "I didn't get any."
Sam chuckled, and Ethan looked helpless. Sophia was stunned.
The table was full of breakfast food, more than the whole family could eat. It seemed like everything was meant to boost blood sugar.
Gabriel came out holding a glass of milk. "From now on, your meals will strictly follow the nutritionist's standards. Also, you don't need to go to the hospital anymore. I'm planning to recover at home."
Sophia looked at Gabriel for a few seconds, feeling comforted by his care.
Gabriel turned and patted Emma's head. "Who said you didn't get any? This is for you."
Emma looked at her plate and said, "But I want Mommy's."
Sophia pushed her breakfast in front of Emma. "Go ahead."
"Thanks, Mommy." Emma happily picked up her utensils.
Ruth was all smiles, seeing the whole family together again. She felt extremely satisfied.
After breakfast, David took the kids to school. Since Sophia's car was still at Blue End, she had to pick another one from the garage, but was full of luxury cars, making it hard to choose.
In the end, Gabriel had James drive Sophia to work.
As soon as she arrived at the office, Sophia got a call from Logan.
"Sophie, I just heard about the fire at Harbor Bay. Are you okay?"
Sophia responded indifferently, "Thanks to you, I'm fine."
"That's good. Where are you staying now? If you need a place, you can come home. I kept your mother's room clean."
"No need, I have a place."
"Sophie," Logan paused, "About the overseas training we discussed, have you thought about it? It's a rare opportunity."
"I already achieved good results during my five years abroad, so I don't need further training," Sophia interrupted.
"Alright, but if you change your mind, let me know."
"I have a meeting, goodbye."
After hanging up, Sophia frowned. She looked at the calendar. Her parents' death anniversary was approaching.
In Country M, Patricia was talking to Celeste.
"Celeste, my parents' death anniversary is coming up. I want to go back."
"You should. I'll go with you."
Talking about her daughter, Celeste looked sad.
She often had nightmares, dreaming that her daughter blamed her for not finding her sooner.
"Okay, but can your body handle it? How about we wait until we move back, and then I'll accompany you to visit Mom and Dad's graves?"
Patricia looked worried. She wasn't as far-removed from the Blackwood family as she was initially. She had won Celeste's affection, and Jennifer also doted on her.
"I'm fine, I'm still strong."
After discussing the details, they decided that Colin would accompany Celeste and Patricia. David and Jennifer were busy with the move.
Unexpectedly, the day after making plans, Celeste fell ill.
It wasn't serious, just the flu. But for an elderly person like Celeste, it was more severe.
In the end, only Colin and Patricia went back.
Caroline was concerned about Daniel's hand. On the first night, she sent him a message reminding him to go to the hospital the next day to change his dressing.
Daniel didn't reply, so Caroline called him the next day.
It wasn't until the third call that Daniel answered.
"Mr. Wolf, you need to go to the hospital to change your dressing. I said I'd go with you. Where are you now? I'll come get you."
After Caroline finished speaking, she didn't hear Daniel's voice.
"Mr. Wolf?"
"Is this Caroline?"
A woman's voice came from the other end, sounding familiar. After two seconds, Caroline realized it was Linda.
