Chapter 478 Compensation
Daniel was losing it because of Clayton. As soon as Clayton got back, he went to the music academy, caused a scene, and harassed a female teacher.
In the conference room, Daniel couldn't keep his cool.
He ditched the meeting and rushed to the academy.
Clayton was sitting in the principal's office, looking like a scolded kid.
The principal, Caroline, and some students who saw what happened were all there.
When Daniel walked in, he saw Caroline first, looked surprised, but quickly pulled it together.
The principal knew Daniel, and they shook hands before Daniel got the lowdown.
Clayton mumbled, "I didn't harass her."
Daniel shot him a fierce look, then softened when he looked at Caroline.
Turns out, Caroline had turned down his recommendation because she had a better option. Fair enough.
"Ms. Clark, Clayton was out of line. It's my fault for not raising him better."
He pulled Clayton over. "Apologize!"
Clayton wanted to argue that Caroline was lying, but under Daniel's glare, he reluctantly said, "I'm sorry."
Daniel snapped, "Where's your sincerity? Louder!"
Clayton raised his voice. "I'm sorry, I was wrong, I won't do it again."
Seeing how practiced he was at apologizing, Caroline figured Clayton must get into trouble a lot.
She remembered the last time she saw him all beat up in Country Y. Clayton was just an immature troublemaker.
With the principal mediating and considering Clayton had only grabbed her hand, Caroline knew she couldn't do much. She just wanted to teach him a lesson.
So, with Clayton's apology and Daniel's sincerity, Caroline decided to forgive.
She also accepted the mental compensation Daniel offered. After all, she deserved it for being harassed and having her class interrupted.
Seeing her take the check, Clayton muttered, "Hypocrite, greedy!"
Daniel shot him a cold glare, and Clayton quickly shut up.
Caroline heard it too. She smiled at Clayton and said, "If you keep cursing, I'll ask for more compensation."
Clayton snorted, turned away, and refused to look at her.
After leaving the school, Daniel shoved Clayton into the car.
Clayton sat quietly, head down, not daring to make a sound.
Daniel said sternly, "Starting tomorrow, you're working at the company."
Clayton's eyes widened. "I'm not going. I haven't finished my studies yet."
"What studies? The school doesn't want you anymore." Daniel was so mad his head hurt.
"Even so, I want to finish my studies here."
"What do you want to study? You caused trouble at the music academy as soon as you got back. What else do you want to do?" Daniel glared at him.
Thinking of Daisy, Clayton argued, "I wasn't causing trouble; I just wanted to teach Caroline a lesson. Daisy is pregnant and alone, and Nicholas doesn't care about her. It's all because Caroline took Nicholas away. He doesn't even come home anymore."
Daniel was so angry he wanted to curse but felt powerless. "Your idea of teaching her a lesson is to curse and then get physical in public?"
"No, I..." Clayton stammered.
"Clayton, I sent you abroad to study, not to disgrace the Wolf family." Daniel pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling exhausted. His acknowledged daughter was seriously ill and couldn't find a bone marrow match, and his son was acting out.
He warned coldly, "Stay out of Daisy and Nicholas's business."
"But I can't just watch Daisy suffer," Clayton insisted.
Daniel cut him off, "This is Daisy's choice."
He had long advised Daisy to break off the engagement with the Watson family and even introduced her to other young men, but Daisy was stubborn. Even her parents supported her, so as her uncle, what else could he do?
Clayton thought Daniel was too cold-hearted but didn't dare say it. He silently vowed to find a way to help Daisy. They had been close since childhood, like siblings, and he wanted her to be happy. He wouldn't let anyone ruin that.
This drama quickly reached Nicholas.
Nicholas texted Paul.
That evening, Paul called Clayton and scolded him. "I warn you, if you bother Caroline again, we're done."
"Paul, why are you all so obsessed with her?"
"Because Caroline is the best girl in the world."
"Daisy is the best," Clayton shot back.
Paul laughed mockingly and hung up. He believed Nicholas was innocent. Given Nicholas' condition, he couldn't have had a sexual relationship with Daisy. It was probably Daisy's scheme. She likely got pregnant by someone else and blamed Nicholas.
Paul had disliked Daisy since childhood; she was too scheming and only got worse. She was probably why Nicholas and Caroline broke up.
Caroline, with some unexpected money, planned to take Lisa and Josie out for a big dinner.
Nicholas came by after work to see Josie, so Caroline had to bring him along.
At the Stew restaurant, Nicholas showed a knowing expression. Caroline hadn't mentioned what they would eat, but he guessed it would be Stew. She always liked Stew.
Since Josie couldn't eat spicy food yet, Caroline ordered two different flavors.
Josie saw a pattern on the wall and asked, "Mom, what is this?"
"This is a Mandarin duck. Mandarin ducks are very loving animals," Caroline explained.
Hearing "very loving," Josie asked, "Like Mom and Dad?"
Recently, she felt her parents weren't as distant, and Josie was secretly happy. Lisa had told her that her parents used to be very loving.
Caroline was stunned and glanced at Nicholas.
She didn't know how to explain her relationship with Nicholas to Josie.
Just as Caroline was about to speak, Nicholas said, "Josie, come here."
Josie moved closer to Nicholas, her bright eyes blinking, waiting for an answer.
Nicholas leaned down and whispered in Josie's ear, "Josie, don't worry. Mom and Dad actually love each other very much. I just made Mom angry before. Once I make it up to her, we'll be like Mandarin ducks, always together with you."
