Chapter 768 Want to Cry, Want to Laugh
Clara lay in the hospital for ten days and finally could move around on her own. She immediately went through the discharge procedures.
Her parents were worried and rushed back.
On the day of her discharge, Cynthia and Oliver came to pick Clara up.
Clara's family went out to eat to celebrate her discharge.
Clara went to the restroom midway, and when she came out, she ran into Alex, who was also coming out of the restroom.
They met.
Alex was momentarily stunned and nodded at Clara politely but distantly.
Clara remembered Alex's coldness over the past few days and got very angry with him. She snorted lightly and turned to leave.
After a few steps, she still felt a bit aggrieved.
So Clara turned back to find Alex and ask him clearly.
She didn't see Alex at the restroom door, so she went to the hall to look for him.
There were many people in the hall, and Clara looked around for a while and then found Alex.
She was about to walk over when she suddenly stopped.
A woman was sitting across from Alex, and she was smiling happily while talking to him. Her eyes sparkled, and Alex didn't look as distant as he did when he looked at Clara.
They...
Clara's heart was pierced by something.
She took a deep breath but still couldn't hold back her tears.
'Why do I feel so hurt? Alex and that woman seem to have a close relationship. With things like this, should I still ask for clarification?' Clara wondered.
There was nothing to ask. It was already obvious that Alex didn't like her. Alex had someone he liked, and now he was having dinner with that person.
Clara returned to the private room.
Cynthia and Oliver noticed Clara's red eyes when she came back from the restroom.
"Clara, why are your eyes red? Were you bullied?"
Clara smiled. "How could I be bullied? Something dirty got into my eyes, and they turned red after I rubbed them a few times."
Oliver and Cynthia were relieved and started serving Clara food.
"Here, eat more. These are all good for calcium."
"Dad, I'm going back to work tomorrow."
Hearing this, Oliver disapproved, "You just got discharged. Rest at home for a few more days."
"If I can be discharged, it means I'm fine. As long as I don't do any strenuous activities, sitting at work is fine. I have a lot of projects piled up."
Oliver wanted to say something, but Clara said seriously, "That project can't be delayed any longer."
"Alright, but if you feel unwell, come home and rest immediately," Oliver said.
"Okay." Clara nodded.
Alex drove Angela home. Angela sat in the passenger seat and didn't get out immediately. She looked at Alex, her eyes sparkling.
"Do you want to come up for a bit?" She asked.
A woman inviting a single man to her home at night had an obvious implication.
Angela didn't hide her interest in Alex at all.
As they spent more time together, Angela's fondness for Alex grew. She believed Alex was the man she could spend her life with.
She wanted to seize the opportunity.
So it was okay for her to be proactive.
Alex was momentarily stunned and then checked the time.
"It's late. Maybe another day."
A trace of disappointment flashed across Angela's face.
"Okay, then I'll go."
"Alright."
Angela got out of the car.
Alex's mind was in turmoil.
He hadn't visited Clara for a week because he was afraid of getting too attached. Time had proven that it could make people forget some things.
Alex kept himself busy this week, and it indeed diluted the feelings he shouldn't have had.
However, the moment he saw Clara at the restaurant tonight, everything collapsed.
He realized he hadn't forgotten those feelings because of the long absence. Instead, the sudden sight of Clara triggered a retaliatory longing.
He must be crazy.
Angela stood on the balcony, looking at the car downstairs.
Angela wondered, 'Why hasn't Alex left yet? Could it be that he is reluctant?'
Angela felt happy and excited. She took out her phone and called Alex.
"Hello."
"I see your car is still downstairs."
Alex was silent, seemingly deep in thought.
Angela's heart pounded. She felt that tonight was the right time. Adults should be decisive in their actions, including their feelings.
If it was confirmed, then accepted it.
"Alex, we've been seeing each other for a while and understand each other. You should have felt my affection. If you feel the same, we..."
Before she could finish, Alex interrupted her with an apology.
"I'm sorry." Alex took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. Since he hadn't resolved his feelings, he couldn't lead Angela on.
Angela's smile froze.
She tightened her grip on the phone, a bad feeling rising in her heart.
"Why are you sorry?" she asked.
"I did have thoughts. You're excellent, and I admire you. From our interactions, it seems we would be a great match. But tonight, I realized I still have unresolved feelings. It wouldn't be fair to you if I were with you in this state."
Angela's expression changed. She recalled everything from tonight. They had a great time talking, with many topics and shared views.
But it seemed he was distracted after returning from the restroom.
'Did he meet someone there?' Angela wondered.
Angela didn't want a man who had feelings for another woman. She wanted a pure and clean marriage. Even if she and Alex didn't have deep feelings, they could develop them, but they had to leave their past relationships behind.
Otherwise, even if they got married, cracks would eventually form.
Alex said guiltily, "I'm very sorry for wasting your time."
Angela was silent for a few seconds. A breeze blew away the heat in her heart.
"It wasn't a waste of time. Even if I were meeting someone else, it would take time to get to know them. Besides, dining and chatting with you was very enjoyable."
"Alex, let's stay in touch as friends."
Angela's last words made Alex feel relieved.
He was glad he hadn't hurt Angela.
Alex's tone became much lighter. "Alright."
In her career, Angela wasn't as successful as Alex, but she wasn't far behind.
Many quality men surrounded her, but none were as outstanding as Alex.
The next day, after consulting with Gabriel, Alex assigned a project to Angela's company and specifically requested Angela to take charge.
Angela sat in her office, feeling both like laughing and crying.
She wanted to laugh because Alex gave her such a big project, which would allow her company to achieve its five-year goal ahead of schedule and earn her a substantial bonus. She might be able to buy a bigger house this year.
She wanted to cry because she lost such a good boyfriend like Alex.
