Chapter 117 What's Going on with Sophia

"Hmm?" Sophia stopped halfway through flipping the pages.

A healthy child who gets enough sleep should not be drowsy during the day and experience excessive hair loss.

This is not normal!

"Is there anything else?" Sophia asked with seriousness and urgency.

"He said he always has nightmares."

Sophia felt a tightening in her heart.

Ethan sensed the perfect moment and cleverly shifted his gaze before continuing, "Mommy, I also noticed that Sam takes medicine every day. Is he sick?"

"Medicine? What kind of medicine?" Sophia asked instinctively.

Ethan shook his head, "I don't know. If Mommy wants to know the answer, I'll ask Sam tomorrow."

Sophia was at a loss. Asking a child wouldn't yield any answers.

Sam has autism, and with early intervention, he can gradually improve. Why does Gabriel give Sam medication?

Could there be something else besides autism that Sam has?

Drowsiness and hair loss could be side effects of medication. Could these symptoms be caused by another condition?

Sophia had many questions that needed answers, especially regarding her son. She couldn't help but worry and wanted to find out as soon as possible.

She patiently put both children to sleep and then got up to make a phone call outside.

As she left the room, Ethan opened his eyes. He couldn't sleep.

It was quiet at night, and Ethan faintly heard his mommy talking outside.

Who is mommy calling?

Is it that bad dad?

Grateful, Sophia said to the person on the other end of the phone, "Hmm, thank you. I'll treat you to a meal when you're free."

If she was calling bad dad, mommy wouldn't be so polite, right?

What else can Ethan do to help mommy?

Unable to sleep, Sophia sat on the sofa and stared out into the dark balcony.

She didn't call Gabriel to ask, but instead called Harrison.

She didn't trust Gabriel. Gabriel said that Sam seeing her would worsen his condition, but last time when she saw Sam, he seemed fine. Gabriel just didn't want them to bond as mother and son, so he came up with many excuses.

Though Harrison was in cahoots with Gabriel, he told her a lot about Sam. It was Harrison who informed her of Sam's two visits to the hospital.

Compared to Gabriel, Harrison was more trustworthy!

With only three hours until dawn, Sophia wrapped herself in a blanket and returned to the bedroom, lying next to the children.

The next day, Gabriel accompanied his son for breakfast and, taking advantage of some rare spare time, personally took Sam to kindergarten.

Carrying Sam, he felt the weight in his hands and wrinkled his brow.

Sam seemed lighter.

He would inquire about Sam's diet at the kindergarten and with the housekeepers at home every day, but Sam's intake had not decreased.

"The body's metabolism is normal, so why am I still getting thinner? Is it because of the nightmares I had a while ago?" Sam wondered. For the past few nights, Sam had been doing mental exercises on his own, aided by the scent sachet, and he hadn't had any nightmares. However, he noticed that he was losing more hair every time he showered.

He picked up the fallen hair and flushed it down the toilet each time. Sam didn't care if he ended up going bald; he was already content now that his father was coming home every day. He didn't want to burden his father with these trivial matters anymore.

Sam was mature beyond his age, often bearing many things on his own and refusing to let any adult worry about him. He wouldn't mention anything to Ethan and Emma unless they asked first.

The driver was in front, driving, while Gabriel accompanied his son in the back seat. Previously, Gabriel would always personally drive his son, but ever since he saw Sophia sitting in the back seat, interacting with Sam, he had learned to let go. He now held a small robot to guide Sam during playtime.

Sam seemed to enjoy it and even corrected Gabriel when he purposely made a mistake. "Is it spelled like this?" Gabriel intentionally expressed doubt. Sam nodded firmly, confirming that it was correct. Then, he picked up another piece and completed the robot's arm, showing his father through his actions that he was right.

Gabriel smiled with relief and lovingly ruffled his son's hair. A few curly strands fell, catching Gabriel's attention. He looked closely at his son, who was focused on assembling the robot, and noticed that Sam, just like him, had always had thick, shiny black hair since he was little, except that the ends had naturally curled over time.

The doctor had said that this change was not a problem and was a natural occurrence during a child's growth. Sam's natural curls added a touch of warmth to his silent and introverted image, making him look like a little prince, adorable and kind.

However, now Sam's hair still had its curls, but it seemed to have become thinner and less glossy. Gabriel felt that something wasn't quite right.

Sam refused to let Gabriel accompany him into the kindergarten; he wanted to go in by himself. Gabriel was worried, but Sam adamantly insisted without explaining why. Gabriel sighed helplessly, "Alright, I'll watch you go in."

With his little backpack on, Sam walked into the kindergarten step by step, elegant and refined. His slim body made the small backpack appear oversized, heavy like a turtle shell. Gabriel felt a sharp pain in his heart just from seeing it. Sam's deep and sharp eyes were filled with tender affection.

Several strands of hair fell onto the seat, and Gabriel picked them up one by one, holding them in his palm.

"Let's go to the office," Gabriel instructed. The driver obeyed and pressed the accelerator.

Harrison yawned as he lay on the sofa in Gabriel's office, looking like he had been woken up by Gabriel.

"What are you doing here?" Gabriel glanced coldly at him and went straight to sit behind the desk.

"I received a call in the middle of the night, which woke me up. I couldn't sleep well, so I came here to catch up on some rest."

Harrison sat up and his eyes looked teasingly at Gabriel.

"Hey, Fu, what's going on between you and Sophia?"

"There's nothing going on."

Gabriel remained calm, showing no signs of panic or guilt. It really seemed like there was nothing happening between them.

Harrison stood up and stretched.

"How's Sam doing?"

"The same as usual."

Harrison walked over, leaning on the desk with both hands, getting closer.

"Guess who called me last night."

"I'm not interested."

Seeing Gabriel's indifferent and uncaring expression, Harrison still had to say it.

"It was Sophia. She's really worried about Sam and asked me about his specific condition. Fu, to be honest, Sophia truly cares about Sam. Even if you two can't be a couple, you should at least think about the child and be friends."

Sophia would rather ask someone like him, who is not particularly familiar with Sam's situation, than ask Gabriel, who knows Sam's condition inside out. It shows how deeply biased she is against Gabriel.
