Chapter 543 Pushing into the Lake
The cops hauled off the three Browns, leaving Chloe hanging at home, waiting forever with no one picking up her calls.
Chloe was freaking out.
She finally got Logan's assistant on the line and found out they were all busted. Chloe was so stunned she passed out cold.
On New Year's Eve, Sophia brought the last photo of Susan to The Blackwood Villa.
Celeste saw Susan's pic and just lost it, tears streaming down her face.
"Susan, my Susan." Celeste clutched the photo like she was hugging Susan herself.
David saw the photo and got all choked up too.
Time had blurred his memory of Susan's face.
Among the pics Sophia brought, there was one of Susan as a kid.
Seeing the Blackwoods all sad, Sophia sighed.
"I wanna get a new tombstone for my parents."
"What's wrong with the one they have?" Colin asked, confused.
All the weird stuff finally made sense. After Sophia's parents died, the Browns, who never visited their graves, suddenly wanted to change the tombstone and visit.
Sophia explained why the Browns were so eager about the tombstone.
"Screw the Brown family!" Colin rarely got mad, but this time they really crossed the line!
Celeste snapped out of her grief.
"Change it, we gotta change it. We need a proper tombstone, and tomorrow we'll go visit them together."
While the adults were grieving, the three kids huddled together.
"So, Grandma's last name is Blackwood, Mommy's part of the Blackwoods, Celeste is Mommy's grandma, Jennifer is Mommy's aunt, David is Mommy's uncle, and Colin is Mommy's brother, so he's our uncle?" Emma summed up smartly.
Ethan nodded, "Yep."
Sam nodded too, looking a bit lost.
Emma's eyes lit up, "Does that mean Mommy's got more people to love her now?"
"Absolutely." Colin walked over and ruffled the kids' hair. "From now on, The Blackwood Villa is your home too. If you ever get tired of The Lancaster Villa, you can always come back here."
Emma beamed, "That's awesome! Now Mommy and us will never be scared of not having a home."
The next day, they hit the cemetery to pay respects to Susan and Francis. David had a new tombstone made, adding Sophia's name as a descendant and changing Susan's name to "Susan Blackwood."
After that, they headed to The Lancaster Manor to ring in the New Year together.
But someone had to crash the party.
Chloe, leaning on her cane and looking miserable, stood at the gate, braving the freezing wind, making it hard for anyone to ignore her.
She blocked the Blackwood family's car, and Colin had to stop.
After dealing with Patricia and her folks, they didn't expect Chloe to show up.
David was ticked off.
Celeste said, "Get out of the car."
Chloe was old and had been sick before. If she collapsed at The Lancaster Manor's gate, it would be a huge hassle for the Lancaster family.
Celeste was fuming inside, thinking, 'Let's see what Chloe's up to now!'
Sophia and Jennifer helped Celeste out of the car, with David and Colin following suit.
Gabriel told Ruth and the kids to stay put in the car. He got out, wrapped a scarf around Sophia's neck, and made sure she was warm.
Chloe shuffled over, trembling, and suddenly dropped to her knees in front of them.
Colin rushed to help her up.
"Blackwoods, I'm begging you, Logan's my only son. Please, can you let him go?"
Chloe cried, and with some unknown strength, she broke free from Colin and fell to her knees again.
David quickly stepped forward, and he and Colin lifted Chloe up from both sides.
Chloe struggled but eventually gave up, still pleading.
"Patricia's young and clueless. If she goes to jail, her life’s over."
"And Logan, he's got a big company to run. The company can't survive without him, and I, as an old woman, can't do without him either."
Chloe cried miserably.
"Back then, we thought Sophia was dead and didn't want to make you sad, so we thought of having Patricia take Sophia's place."
"We were shocked to find Sophia alive. Celeste, it's all on me. It was my idea. I couldn't stand the thought of Susan having no descendants, so I came up with the plan to present Patricia as Susan's daughter, so she could pay respects to Susan and let Susan rest in peace."
Everyone quietly watched Chloe cry. The wind blew, and the tears on Chloe's wrinkled face dried instantly.
"When my mom was alive, you treated her like crap. Now that she's dead, you suddenly care?" Sophia laughed mockingly.
Hearing Sophia's words, Chloe's eyes flashed with guilt, but she quickly regained her composure.
"Anyway, I did raise Susan well. Doesn't the Blackwoods owe me for that? And my own daughter died saving Susan."
"If I spill the beans, no one will be on your side!"
As she spoke, Chloe started crying again.
"The loss of my daughter was utterly heartbreaking. For Susan, my poor daughter alone in those icy waters in the depths of winter. By the time others found her, her lifeless body had succumbed to the cold."
Sophia had confirmed this incident from multiple sources, so when Celeste turned to her for confirmation, Sophia nodded slightly.
"You're lying!" Ruth couldn't take it anymore. She rolled down the car window and started cursing at Chloe, completely disregarding her noble upbringing.
"Logan caused your daughter's tragic death. If Logan hadn't pushed Susan into the lake, your own beloved child would still be alive today. After all, you never treated Susan as your own daughter."
"You always favored Logan. Even when your daughter was alive, you didn't treat her well. After she died, you used her to control Susan, making Susan feel guilty and selflessly help the Browns, supporting your useless Logan."
Chloe was taken aback, her pupils dilating. She looked at Celeste in panic.
Very few people knew the truth about this matter. Besides the Browns and Susan herself, no one else knew.
'How does Ruth know?' Chloe thought.
"You even pushed Susan into the water in the middle of winter!" Celeste glared at Chloe in anger, so furious that she wanted to tear Chloe apart.
