Chapter 517 David's Suspicion
Colin had been mulling over the Blackwood Mansion situation for a while before deciding to fill David in.
Last time, he didn't know who Ella and Patricia were badmouthing, but now that he knew, he couldn't just ignore it, especially since Patricia was messing with Sophia's future.
How deep must the hatred run?
David frowned as he listened. Ever since Patricia came back to the Blackwood family, he had noticed her bad character.
The Blackwoods were generally good people, and he had looked into Susan's husband, Francis Kelly. Before the Kelly family incident, Francis had a great reputation and did a lot of charity work.
Some entrepreneurs do charity for show, but Francis was genuinely into it.
People who knew Francis couldn't believe he would do something so awful.
Plus, Francis deeply loved Susan. They had a great marriage, and after Francis died, Susan committed suicide.
With all this info, David felt Patricia didn't seem like Susan's daughter but more like a Brown.
Hearing what Colin had to say, David's business instincts kicked in.
"Patricia Brown, Sophia Kelly," David muttered.
If there was no connection between Sophia and Patricia, David might not have cared, but considering what Celeste said about their enmity, combined with Colin's info, it was different.
David suddenly stood up, startling Colin.
"Dad, what's up?"
David stared at Colin. "Tell me again, how did you find Patricia?"
Colin summarized. "I followed clues to the Brown family. They said my aunt had passed and had a daughter. I investigated and found she did have a daughter after marriage. The Browns weren't lying. When my grandmother and I came back to reunite with Patricia, the Browns provided a paternity test."
"The Browns did the paternity test?" David caught the key point.
Colin nodded. "Yeah, the Browns thought we might be frauds, so they did a paternity test."
Colin had also wanted to do a test, fearing the Browns might be frauds, but after seeing the Browns' test, Celeste accepted Patricia.
"Is there something wrong with that?" Colin asked.
David frowned. "I suspect Patricia isn't your aunt's daughter."
Colin's eyes widened, and he started to suspect too.
No wonder he could never get close to Patricia, and David always kept his distance from her.
"I'll look into it," Colin said.
David added, "Don't. The Browns might get suspicious. I'll have someone investigate secretly."
"Okay."
They still had to keep this from Celeste and Jennifer.
At the hospital, Patricia watched as online opinion turned against her. Her fake competition participation was almost confirmed.
This was the truth, no amount of Patricia's excuses would help.
Ever since Jennifer scolded Kathy, she avoided Patricia, but Patricia still called her.
"Did you know this would happen?" Patricia's tone was sinister.
Kathy quickly denied it. "No, I didn't know, and I warned you at the time."
It was Patricia who didn't listen and insisted on swapping their designs, and now she was blaming Kathy.
Kathy was fuming inside but kept quiet. She still wanted to graduate smoothly from Fusion Dynamics Corporation.
Patricia snapped, "You better find a way to fix this mess fast. If this ruins my chances of inheriting Fusion Dynamics, I won't let you off!"
She hung up, leaving Kathy stewing.
Ella, sitting next to Patricia, offered her a piece of apple. "Calm down, you need to focus on getting better."
"Mom," Patricia sobbed, throwing herself into Ella's arms. "Celeste is so disappointed in me. She scolded me. What if she gives Fusion Dynamics to Sophia? When Sophia was accused of cheating, Celeste and Jennifer stood by her. Why do they think I'm useless?"
Patricia's jealousy was eating her up.
Ella stroked her head, comforting her. "Don't worry. You're the true heiress of the Blackwood family. Sophia is nothing. As long as you keep Celeste's love, everything will be yours."
"But she's so disappointed in me now."
"Remember how you used to compete with Sophia when you were little?"
Patricia paused, then a light bulb went off. "Mom, I know what to do."
The next day, David and Jennifer visited Patricia in the hospital. Colin, however, took Celeste to The Lancaster Manor half an hour earlier.
Ruth was thrilled to see Celeste and greeted her at the door.
The three kids, on vacation, rushed to hug Celeste. "Grandma Celeste, we missed you!"
Seeing the energetic kids, Celeste beamed and asked Colin to give them the gifts she brought.
"Ethan, Sam, Emma, will you show me around?" Colin suggested, knowing Celeste wanted to talk to Ruth.
"Sure!" The kids pulled Colin outside.
The living room fell quiet.
Betty served two cups of coffee.
Ruth's eyes narrowed slightly. The room was warm and cozy, making one feel drowsy.
"Where's Sophie?" Celeste asked.
"Sophie just stepped out."
Celeste felt a bit disappointed. She had come to see Sophia and wanted to talk to her.
Ruth gave Celeste a meaningful look. "Celeste."
"Yes?"
"I heard you plan to pass Fusion Dynamics to Patricia?"
This was a hot topic. Many thought Patricia was unfit to be the heiress due to her cheating scandal.
Celeste's eyebrows furrowed, and her voice was heavy. "I did plan that and was grooming her for it. But I didn't expect her to deceive me by having someone else design her competition entry. She has deeply disappointed me."
Ruth opened her eyes slightly. "What are your plans now?"
"My daughter was lost for so many years, and by the time I found her, she had already passed away. Patricia is her only child left. I can't bear to see her go further down the wrong path, so I will keep her by my side and continue to guide her. But I don't know how much longer I will last," Celeste sighed.
