Chapter 697 Seeing the Photo
"What are you doing?" Sophia shot him a glare.
Gabriel's voice came out muffled from under the blanket, "Sleeping."
Sophia just stood there, silent.
Was he really planning to crash here?
"This is my room," she said, putting her book down and walking over to him. "Go back to your own room to sleep."
But Gabriel was like a boulder, not budging an inch. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't move him.
As she kept tugging, Gabriel suddenly pulled her down onto him. In a flash, he flipped over, pinning her beneath him.
Sophia's eyes went wide with shock, and she stared at him, too stunned to move.
Looking into Gabriel's deep, affectionate eyes, she felt herself getting lost in them.
"Sophie," he whispered, rubbing his nose against hers. "I miss you so much."
There was more to his words than just missing her. Sophia got it right away.
Her ears turned bright red.
She tried to say something but couldn't find the words.
Gabriel leaned down and gave her a quick kiss.
Then he said softly, "But if you don't want to, I won't push you."
A flicker of disappointment crossed his eyes, and his hand on her waist started to pull away.
Sophia said, "I..."
It wasn't the first time she'd been this close to Gabriel, but back then, he wasn't serious. Now, they were really starting something. Was it all happening too fast?
But in the adult world, there was no time for second-guessing. You just went for it.
Sophia wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back.
Gabriel was surprised for a second, then responded with joy.
Her bold move erased all his doubts.
He held her tight, but he was so exhausted that he couldn't keep his eyes open and fell asleep right there.
Sophia blinked, then blinked again. What just happened?
In this intense moment, Gabriel actually fell asleep?
"Gabriel?" she gently nudged him, realizing he was out cold.
She adjusted his position and noticed the dark circles under his eyes. He looked thinner, too.
Her heart ached a bit, and she pulled the blanket over him.
Tonight, he needed a good rest.
Under the blanket, Sophia didn't see Gabriel's hand clutching his stomach.
Sophia got up to use the bathroom. When she came back, she lay down beside him.
She turned off the light, and the room was enveloped in quiet darkness.
Gabriel's soft breathing was the only sound, and Sophia felt like she was dreaming. She and Gabriel were finally together.
The feelings she'd kept buried were finally out in the open.
She turned to her side, barely making out his features in the dark. The air was filled with his scent.
Slowly, she closed her eyes.
She thought she'd stay awake, but she drifted off soon after.
In the middle of the night, she was jolted awake by a phone ringing.
Half-asleep, she reached for the phone but touched a strong arm instead. She snapped awake, remembering Gabriel was next to her.
The ringing phone was his.
"Gabriel?" Sophia called softly, seeing he was out cold. She decided not to wake him and picked up his phone to check.
It was Harrison calling.
At this hour, it had to be something important, right?
Should she answer for him? If it was urgent, she'd wake Gabriel. If not, she'd let him sleep.
Sophia answered just before the call ended.
"Hello."
"Hello, Sophia?" Harrison immediately recognized her voice.
"Yeah, it's me," she replied.
Harrison was silent for a moment, then asked, curious and excited, "Are you two together?"
He remembered it was the middle of the night in the States!
Sophia answering Gabriel's phone at this hour? They had to be in bed together!
"Something important? Does Gabriel need to take this call?" Sophia asked.
Harrison quickly replied, "No, it's not important anymore. You guys carry on. I'll hang up."
And with that, he hung up.
Sophia was about to put the phone down when her finger accidentally swiped the screen, unlocking it.
No password?
Gabriel's phone screen had a photo open, and when she unlocked it, she saw the photo first.
Her expression changed instantly.
Why was there a photo of her and Jake on Gabriel's phone?
And it looked pretty intimate.
Sophia's heart tightened, and a million thoughts raced through her mind.
The photo was taken outside Fusion Dynamics Corporation when Jake came to see her yesterday. From that angle, it looked like Jake was helping her with a thread on her head. Jake was a bit close, and it looked like he was kissing her from a certain angle.
Sophia tapped the photo, and it minimized, revealing a message.
The message was from a virtual number, with no text, just the photo.
This wasn't taken by someone Gabriel sent to follow her. Gabriel had no reason to have her followed.
So, someone was trying to stir up trouble. Someone wanted Gabriel to misunderstand her relationship with Jake.
Sophia instinctively thought of Tiffany, but then dismissed it. Tiffany was under tight watch in a mental institution, and she was too scared to pull something like this.
Then who could it be?
Sophia sat against the headboard, the phone screen automatically dimming. She swiped it open again, staring at the photo, and Jake's image popped into her mind.
Jake always smiled warmly and brightly when he saw her, always treated her well, and always showed up to save her in times of trouble. He once said she gave him an encouraging hug during his toughest times. His tone when addressing her had also become more ambiguous.
Could it be Jake?
Sophia furrowed her brows. She quietly sent the photo to herself on Facebook, then deleted the chat history.
After doing all this, she put the phone back and lay down again.
This time, she couldn't fall asleep.
What did Gabriel think when he saw the photo?
Didn't he think to ask her about it?
Or did he pretend not to see it? Or did he have other plans?
Around four in the morning, Sophia finally fell asleep.
