Chapter 18: Sam is Bullied

Jackson went to play on the slide, and Sam stood there quietly like a statue. After a while, the teacher felt a stomach ache and quickly rushed to the restroom, leaving the two children behaving well.
Jackson, the little boy from the slide, slid down and as soon as he saw the teacher leave, he revealed his mischievous side. He walked up to Sam and looked at him as if he were observing a monkey.
"So, you're Sam, huh? I heard you're smart. Are you as smart as me?"
"Why don't you speak?"
"Are you mute?"
No matter what Jackson said, Sam didn't move or speak. He remained completely absorbed in his own world.
Except for his dad and great-grandmother, he didn't like to interact with anyone. He didn't even bother to look at Jackson.
His indifference made Jackson feel his self-esteem being challenged. He was also known as the bully in class and was loved by the teacher and other children. Even at home, he was adored.
How dare this person ignore him, It infuriated him.
"Mute, do you not have parents? I've never seen your parents before."
"No one wants you?"
"Is it because you're mute that they don't want you?"
"Surely it is. Just look at how you ignore people."
Sam's eyes turned red in an instant as he stared at Jackson. His small hands clenched into fists tightly. Although he was just a child, the aura he emitted made even an adult inexplicably frightened.
Jackson was scared and shivered, but being scared like this was too embarrassing. So, he pretended to be fierce, glared at Sam and pushed him to the ground.
"You stinky mute! No one wants a mute like you! How dare you glare at me? Wait till my dad comes. I'll have him gouge out your eyes."
"Sam." Sophia had been watching outside for a while, thinking that the little boy wanted to invite Sam to play. Unexpectedly, he suddenly pushed Sam to the ground. Anxious, she rushed inside but was stopped by the security guard.
"I am Sam's mother, I am here to pick him up."
"Where is the pick-up card?"
"I forgot to bring it. Can't you see the child has been pushed down?"
The security guard turned to take a look and indeed, it was true. However, children having minor falls was normal. Before he could react, Sophia pushed him aside and rushed in.
"Sam." Sophia hugged Sam tightly and checked anxiously, "Are you hurt?"
Sam blinked curiously at this woman. Isn't she the aunt that dad brought to school that day?
"Sam, does it hurt anywhere?" Sophia asked with a worried tone, her gaze fixed on Sam.
Sam shook his head, indicating that he was fine. The security guard caught up and was about to say something when the teacher who had gone to the restroom came back.
"What happened?"
Sophia was still holding Sam tightly and helping dust Sam off, when at this point the teacher's voice was heard from behind. Sophia immediately began to straightened up with a serious expression.
"Just now, I saw this child push Sam to the ground."
Now let's see how the teacher handles it.
The teacher looked at Jackson, who was standing obediently by the side, and asked gently, "Jackson, did you push Sam?"
Jackson shook his head with a look of grievance.
The teacher turned around and said kindly, "As you can see, the child says he didn't do it. It should be a misunderstanding. Playful behavior between children is normal and without malice."
Sophia smiled. Instead of arguing with the teacher, she squatted down and said to Sam, "Sam, go on. Just push him back the same way he pushed you."
Sam blinked his beautiful eyes in confusion. He found this auntie to be quite intriguing. He didn't move at all, and the teacher next to him became a bit impatient.
"As Sam's parent, how can you teach your child such behavour like this? It's not right."
"My child can't speak, so he doesn't know how to explain when he's being bullied. As a teacher, if you don't clarify the situation and immediately assume it's just children playing around, do you know how much harm this can cause to the children? Bullying doesn't just exist in elementary and middle schools, it happens in kindergartens too."
Sophia couldn't help expressing her anger anymore, and she confronted the teacher without hesitation.
"How did it escalate to bullying?!" The teacher was dumbfounded. They were the best kindergarten in City B, and some of the parents even respected the teachers immensely.
How dare this parent confront her about such a trivial matter.
Sophia couldn't be bothered to pay attention to her. She saw this teacher as unreasonable and unprofessional. She directly walked past her and approached Jackson.
"Are you Jackson?" When talking to children, she softened her edges a little and added more gentleness.
Jackson was still afraid, after all, he was young, had done something wrong, and his parents weren't there to support him, so he felt scared without someone having his back.
He nodded slowly.
"Did you bully Sam just now?"
Just as Jackson was about to shake his head, Sophia's words came again, this time with a hint of seriousness.
"Smart children cannot lie. You don't want to be a silly little liar, do you? If you really bullied Sam, apologize to him. We are good children when we acknowledge our mistakes."
Jackson discreetly looked up at Sophia and suddenly burst into tears.
"I didn't bully Sam, I didn't... sniff..."
Sophia was driven to a headache by his crying and shouting. This... was just so different from children abroad. She didn't even say anything harsh.
It seemed like this child was spoiled at home.
What made Sophia even more bothered was that Jackson's mother hurriedly rushed in, pushed Sophia aside, and hugged her son.
"My dear, why are you crying? Who bullied you?"
As soon as Jackson saw his mother, his courage grew immediately, and he pointed at Sophia.
"Mommy, I didn't bully Sam. She insisted that I did. She's..."
"Let me apologize."
"Who are you?" Mrs. White glared at Sophia unfriendly.
"I am..." Sophia hesitated, glanced at Sam, and ultimately did not reveal that she is Sam's mom.
Sam might not be able to accept it at the moment, so she should take it slowly. She will tell him the truth once they have a good relationship.
"I don't care who you are, apologize to my son," Mrs. White demanded arrogantly without considering the process.
Sophia widened her eyes. This was truly the first time she had encountered such an outrageous person. Seeing that two parents were about to argue, the teacher quickly intervened.
"Sam's parent, this was indeed just children playing around. There is no need for you to take it seriously. Jackson's mom..."
"We have donated so many teaching materials to the school and sponsored every activity. Is this how teachers take care of children?" Mrs. White's words left the teacher speechless.
