Chapter 53 Eating is Not So Delicious
Sam blinked his eyes. How amazing they were, able to freely run around. Ethan thought that the kindergarten wasn't a good place to talk, as the teachers were always watching and it would be easy for them to discover that he and Emma had sneaked in.
So, Ethan whispered something to Sam, who hesitated for a moment before nodding.
Ethan and Emma quickly sneaked out of the kindergarten and went to a nearby park to wait for Sam. Many grandparents were there with their grandchildren, so the two children sitting on the swings didn't attract too much attention.
They waited for almost an hour before Sam appeared, with the bodyguard still by his side. Emma pouted, "Why did you bring the bodyguard uncle with you?" Sam explained, “He is only responsible for our safety and won’t talk nonsense.”
"Okay."
The three little cuties changed their location to a children's playground and sat in a bubble bath, burying their bodies inside and only showing their three little heads.
Sam was very curious about how they managed to sneak out without their parents or teachers noticing. Emma proudly raised her eyebrows, "It's all thanks to my perfect acting skills. I fooled Mommy and made her ask for leave for us."
This morning, when Emma woke up feeling very low-spirited, Sophia was worried that she was catching a cold, so she didn't dare to let her go to kindergarten. She decisively asked the two cuties' parents to let Ethan stay at home with Emma.
Sam widened his eyes, "That's lying, and it's not right."
"But if we didn't do that, we wouldn't be able to see you. Don't you want to see us?" Emma said confidently.
Sam fell silent.
"And you lied just now," Emma justified herself.
Earlier, Ethan advised Sam to pretend to be uncomfortable and ask for leave from the kindergarten. Sam hesitated for a long time, which was why it took him an hour to join Ethan and Emma.
After David picked him up, Sam even asked him not to tell his dad.
Ethan reached out and patted Sam's shoulder. In his heart, he already considered Sam as his little brother. "Don't be afraid. Sometimes, adults lie to achieve their goals. Why can't we, children, lie? Besides, we didn't do anything wrong." After being comforted by Ethan, Sam’s guilt slowly went away.
"When is your birthday?" Emma suddenly asked Sam.
Sam honestly made two hand gestures, "June 6th."
Ethan and Emma exchanged a glance. They were right!
"What about you guys?"
Ethan replied, "We have the same birthday as you."
Sam was surprised and happy. He could celebrate his birthday with friends in the future!
"Why can't you speak?" Emma asked the biggest doubt in her heart.
Ethan found out that there was no disease or condition that prevented Sam from speaking after he was born.
These past few days, he had researched many reasons why children couldn't speak, and apart from physical conditions, there were also psychological and emotional factors that could affect a child's ability to communicate.
Everything outside of nature is either a result of injury or psychological factors.
When it came to this topic, Sam fell silent. Ethan and Emma couldn't figure out what he was thinking, so the two of them exchanged glances.
Perhaps it was telepathy, as they seemed to sense Ethan's low spirits.
Ethan and Emma approached Sam slowly and gave him a hug.
"From now on, we will be your best friends. You can tell your best friends anything, and remember, good friends don't keep secrets from each other, otherwise, they wouldn't be good friends." Emma hummed twice, implying that if Sam had a secret he didn't want to share, she wouldn't want to be his friend anymore.
Ethan nodded lightly in agreement.
Sam was torn inside. He didn't know if he should open up to them, he was afraid.
But he didn't want to lose these two good friends either.
He felt a different kind of warmth and happiness from them, something that even his grandmother and father couldn't provide. After a long while, he wrote on his iPad, “I have never had any friends since I was little, you are my only friends and I am willing to tell you.”
Ethan and Emma were filled with anticipation, their similar faces revealing equally serious expressions.
"I can speak, but I don't want to speak. I'm afraid I'll say something wrong and make Dad and Mrs. Foster angry."
Emma didn't understand, "Why?"
She and Ethan could also say things wrong, but Mommy wouldn't get angry.
"I want Mommy, but Mrs. Foster doesn't want me to look for Mommy. She said I was an abandoned child, and Mommy didn't even want to take me with her. Mommy only loves her other two children, so she took them and left, leaving me behind."
Upon reading this, Emma hurriedly refuted, "That's impossible!"
She really wanted to tell Sam that their mommy loved him very much, she would make clothes for him and often cry in the middle of the night, missing him.
Sam looked at her in surprise, "Why?"
"Because..." Emma was about to say it, that their mommy was his mommy, but before she could finish her sentence, Ethan interrupted.
"Because this Mrs. Foster is a bad person. She deliberately said those things to break the relationship between you and your mommy."
Emma nodded vigorously in agreement, "Yes, that Mrs. Foster is a bad person."
Sam became even more downcast, "But Mommy didn't take me with her, she abandoned me." Ethan and Emma felt heavy-hearted, Sam was blaming mommy inside his heart but mommy didn’t do it on purpose.
Ethan and Emma thought Mrs. Foster was terrible for saying all those bad things about Mommy to Sam, causing Sam to have such a deep misunderstanding of Mommy. No wonder Mommy didn't immediately recognize Sam as her son.
And that rotten Dad too, he didn't take care of Sam properly and let Sam live with that terrible woman, and then he got sick.
In an instant, the two little ones silently reached an agreement , deciding not to tell Sam their identities for the time being!
They wanted to help Sam resolve his misunderstanding to their mom and lead him into a life of happiness and out of disease.
Emma stood up with a splash and took Sam's hand, their small, warm hands held together.
"You're never alone anymore. You have me and Ethan, we're the best of friends."
Sam felt deeply touched in his heart. It seemed like the thing he had always longed for was within reach.
Ethan also stood up and grabbed Sam's other hand.
"If anyone bullies you, just tell me. I'm strong and I'll protect you."
As an older brother, it was his duty to protect his younger siblings.
Sam's eyes welled up with tears. Throughout his life, others either called him a child without a mother or treated him like a mute. Only Ethan and Emma never despised him and willingly became his friends.
He nodded firmly.
At noon, Sam treated his two good friends to a meal for the first time. When they saw Sam eating with grace and elegance, Ethan and Emma were amazed, in comparison to them, they were like wolves devouring their food. Emma teased Sam, “You are not enjoying the meal at all.”
Sam put down his chopsticks and tilted his head to look at her.
