Chapter 343 Was There a Possibility
Nicholas said, "If you have the ability to meddle, you must have the ability to clean up the mess."
Paul grabbed Nicholas' arm, pleading, "Nicholas, you can't betray me. You'll lose your lovely, kind, and handsome little brother."
"Nicholas, I've been with Caroline these past two days. Do you want to know how Caroline is doing?" Paul said.
Nicholas, who was initially indifferent, blinked.
Paul immediately caught on, smugly releasing Nicholas' arm and crossing his arms. "If you want to know, pay me. I want fifty thousand dollars."
Fifty thousand should be enough for him to have some fun, right?
Nicholas turned his head, giving Nicholas a cold look. He didn't speak, but his silence was more powerful than words, making Paul feel a chill down his spine.
Soon, Paul gave in, saying, "Nicholas, these past few days, I haven't been eating or sleeping well because of you. I've lost a lot of weight."
"Get to the point!" Nicholas said coldly.
Paul said, "Caroline's mother is seriously ill. She was transferred to the First Hospital today. The professor who can perform the surgery is abroad for research and won't be back for three months, but Lisa can't wait that long. Nicholas, no matter what happened between you and Caroline back then, Caroline is in a pitiful state. You have to help her. She's alone in the hospital day and night, begging for help to cover medical expenses. Caroline is a bright and shining violinist, but for her sick mother, she's losing her dignity. And she's also being harassed by a producer, unable to get paid for a program. Caroline is in a terrible situation."
Paul continued to cry for Caroline, pretending to wipe tears while glancing at Nicholas.
Nicholas' face grew darker, and by the end, a hint of anger could be seen in his eyes.
Nicholas, indeed, still cared about Caroline. Otherwise, why hadn't he married Daisy all these years?
"Nicholas, I'll take you to the First Hospital to Caroline's mother," Pual said, "Hey, Charles, let's go to the First Hospital."
Charles glanced at Nicholas, detecting no objection, and promptly drove them to the hospital. Paul navigated with ease, leading Nicholas to find Doctor Williams.
Doctor Williams recognized Paul and mistook Nicholas for another family member, briefing him extensively on Lisa's condition. Nicholas handed over a business card.
In a cold tone, Nicholas said, "The Watson Group will sponsor the medication for this patient. Please cooperate, Doctor Williams, and don't tell Caroline."
"Caroline?" Williams was puzzled.
Paul explained, "She's the lady who came with me. She's this patient's daughter."
"And you two...?"
Paul introduced Nicholas, "He's the lady's boyfriend, no, ex-boyfriend, or maybe not, but they have a complicated relationship."
Nicholas frowned. "Shut up!"
Williams seemed to understand and yet not understand. He casually glanced at the business card, his eyes widening suddenly.
CEO of the Watson Group! Williams was a bit excited.
Nicholas continued, "The Watson Group will deliver a batch of new medical equipment the day after tomorrow."
Williams became even more excited.
"I hope the hospital can arrange the surgery as soon as possible," Nicholas said.
After a few seconds of hesitation, Williams said, "I will discuss the treatment plan with the professor as soon as possible. Please rest assured."
"Thank you."
Nicholas gestured for Charles to escort him out.
Paul caught up and pushed Charles aside. "Nicholas, I've given you so much information. Shouldn't you reward me with some money? Oh, and I've borrowed quite a bit to help Caroline raise money."
Once in the car, Nicholas handed Paul an old phone and sent a message from his own phone.
Paul received the message with an address, instantly beaming with joy, saying, "I knew you wouldn't abandon me."
Then Nicholas handed him a card.
Paul happily accepted it. "Thank you, my dearest brother."
Nicholas handed him another card. "Give this to Caroline in your name."
"Why don't you give it to her yourself?" Paul asked.
Nicholas said, "Give me back the card and the phone."
Paul clutched the items protectively, feeling wronged. "I'll do as you said."
"Come to the hospital more often during this time," Nicholas said.
"No problem, for Caroline, I, Paul Watson, will do my best," Paul replied.
Paul continued, "Nicholas, you clearly still care a lot about Caroline. Why don't you reconcile with her?"
Nicholas lightly tapped his eyelid and ignored Paul.
Paul shrugged. He didn't understand why two people who loved each other so much ended up apart.
Luckily, he stayed away from love.
With money in hand, Paul became more confident. That evening, he went to a bar with a few friends to celebrate.
When the three children returned from school, Emma dropped her backpack and ran to Ruth, helping her massage her arms and legs.
"Great-Grandma."
Ruth smiled. "You need to put more strength into it."
Emma pressed a bit harder. "Are you comfortable?"
"Very."
"Great Grandma, have the paternity test results come out for Josie?" Emma asked.
"It has." Ruth nodded.
"Let me see," Emma said.
Ruth handed over the paternity test report, and the children immediately stopped massaging to read it.
"Great Grandma, does this probability mean that Josie isn't her mother's biological child?" Emma asked humbly.
"Exactly, Emma. You're very smart," Ruth replied.
Ethan also looked at it, unable to believe that Josie wasn't her mother's biological child.
"Then who is Josie's biological mother? Should we tell Josie about this?" Emma asked two questions in a row.
Ruth said slowly, "Don't tell Josie about this for now. She's still young, and if she finds out she's not biologically related, she won't be able to accept it."
Ethan nodded in agreement. "The best way is to help Josie find her biological mother first."
Sam also nodded. "We must help Josie."
Ruth smiled and asked, "How do you plan to help?"
The three children fell into deep thought, and Ruth watched them with a smile.
Ethan remembered something. "If her mother isn't her mother, then what about her father? Could he also not be her biological father?"
Emma widened her eyes in disbelief. "Could Josie be adopted?"
Sam gestured, "But Josie looks so much like her father."
The three children fell into thought once again.
Ethan suddenly remembered overhearing a conversation between Caroline and Sophia. Caroline had been disappointed by Josie's father and had a child who died shortly after birth.
'Is there a possibility...' Ethan thought.
