Chapter 533 It's You

Sophia was about to head out when Oscar, all smiles and enthusiasm, insisted she stay for lunch.

This trip wasn’t a total bust for Sophia.

At least she figured out that Patricia couldn’t be her late aunt’s kid.

But she still had no clue if her mom, Susan, was adopted by the Browns.

The Browns were super hush-hush about it. Even close family and old pals didn’t know much, just like Oscar, who only knew the Browns had twin girls.

Back in the day, when Chloe was pregnant, the whole fam took off to the countryside for some reason. Chloe had the kids there, and it was a couple of years before she came back to City B with them.

When they returned, the Browns had two girls the same age.

David and Colin were so deep in conversation when they left, they didn’t even notice Sophia walking by.

Their trip to The Turner Mansion to see Oscar was a total flop.

Once they hit downtown, David’s phone buzzed.

He checked it out; it was the info he had someone dig up yesterday.

David’s face darkened as he read through it.

When Jennifer made Sophia her goddaughter, he hadn’t really looked into Sophia’s past. He just knew she was Gabriel’s ex, had three kids with him, and her parents were dead.

Since Jennifer was fond of her and he liked her too, he didn’t dig deeper.

Yesterday, something clicked, and he had someone do a deep dive into Sophia’s background, especially her ties to the Browns.

“Dad, you still haven’t told me the test results.”

The report was out, but David seemed reluctant to spill. 'Maybe the results weren’t what we expected?' Colin thought.

David snapped out of it.

“Patricia’s got nothing to do with our Blackwoods.”

Colin’s eyes went wide. Even though they kinda expected it, hearing it was still a shock.

“Then whose kid is Patricia? And what about the paternity test the Browns did when they took her in?”

“I don’t care whose kid she is. That paternity test must’ve been bogus. If the Browns tried to pull one over on us, they better be ready for the fallout,” David said, fuming.

He kept his cool, but now wasn’t the time to blow Patricia’s cover.

“Don’t tell Jennifer about this yet. She’s just recovered and can’t handle the shock.”

Colin nodded in agreement.

“But if it’s not Patricia, then my real cousin…” Colin was about to ask who it could be when a thought hit him. He thought of Sophia. “Could it be Sophia?”

“Maybe. Go find Sophia and ask her about her parents.”

“Got it.”

David kept looking at the info on his phone. He was kinda excited but didn’t show it.

He didn’t want to get his hopes up too high.

He was scared they might be wrong again.

Even though all signs pointed to Susan’s real daughter being Sophia.

Sophia had just left The Turner Mansion when Colin called her.

Colin sounded urgent, “Where are you? We need to talk.”

“I’m out. What’s up?”

“It’s too complicated to explain over the phone. Let’s meet up.”

“Okay, where?”

“I’ll send you the location of a café.”

"I'll be there in about half an hour."

After hanging up, Sophia headed downtown.

Colin was already chilling in a private room. A waiter led Sophia in, and she ordered a coffee.

Her cheeks were still rosy, like she’d just run a marathon.

Colin had been a bit on edge, but seeing Sophia made his nerves disappear.

"Colin, what's up?" Sophia asked, a bit anxious.

"Nothing major. Don’t stress."

"Then spill it."

"Sophia."

"Yeah?"

"You mentioned your parents passed away. I didn’t pry because I didn’t want to upset you."

"What do you wanna know?" Sophia sat up, clutching her hot coffee.

"Were your parents in business?"

"Yeah."

"What's your connection to the Kellys?"

Colin asked carefully, not wanting to dig up painful memories.

Sophia spoke softly, "My dad started the Kelly Group."

"Your dad? Francis is your dad?" Colin’s grip tightened, and he asked excitedly, "What’s your mom’s name?"

"My mom’s name is Susan Brown."

Colin suddenly went silent, like he’d seen a ghost. He stared at Sophia, completely still. It wasn’t like time froze, but it sure felt like it for Sophia.

She waved her hand in front of his face. "Colin? Mr. Blackwood?"

After a bit, Colin snapped out of it. He adjusted his glasses, a smile creeping onto his face. He was trying hard to keep his cool.

"Sophia, what I’m about to say might shock you. Well, you can be shocked, but don’t freak out."

Sophia smiled, a bit helpless. "Go on."

She had a hunch about what Colin was gonna say.

"I think Patricia isn’t part of our Blackwoods, but you are."

Sophia wasn’t shocked.

But she was surprised Colin had figured it out already.

Colin was also surprised at how chill Sophia was.

He continued seriously, "The Browns must’ve mixed up your identities, letting Patricia take your place with the Blackwoods. So, Sophia, you gotta tell me straight, are you really Francis and Susan’s daughter?"

Sophia nodded firmly. "Of course, we can check the records. My old household was in Harbor Bay, and the head was my dad, Francis."

Colin believed her. This could be easily checked, and there was no reason for Sophia to lie.

But they still needed to be sure.

"Sophia, I believe you, but we need everyone to believe you’re a Blackwood, so we need a paternity test."

"Okay."

Sophia didn’t hesitate. She also wanted to know if her mom was really the lost daughter of the Blackwoods.

If her mom were alive, she’d definitely want to find her real parents.

So Sophia calmly pulled out a few strands of hair and handed them to Colin.

Colin carefully took them and put them away.

"Until the test results are out, Sophia, keep this on the down-low."

"Yeah, I got it."

Colin felt a huge sense of relief. Luckily, they didn’t need to spend more time and effort searching for Susan’s daughter.

Thankfully, Sophia was right there.

If Sophia was indeed his cousin, Colin thought this kind of twist of fate was amazing.

Even though the paternity test wasn’t done yet, he already wanted to believe Sophia was Susan’s daughter.

After talking with Sophia, Colin was eager to get the test done and didn’t stick around long.

Sophia had planned to drive home, but on the way, she made a turn and headed to The Brown Mansion.
