Chapter 723 An Incident Occurs
Micah shivered all over and lowered his head, not daring to speak.
The air inside the car suddenly dropped several degrees.
After a long while, Jake finally spoke, "Back to the company."
As soon as he returned to the office, Victor entered with his assistant, secretary, bodyguards, and others in tow.
Victor went straight to Jake's office chair and sat down. His graying hair was meticulously tied into a ponytail, giving him the appearance of an elegant old man. However, the stern look in Victor's eyes commanded respect and awe.
His cold gaze fell on Jake.
Victor said, "Gabriel has been in the Country M for so long. Why haven't you made a move yet?"
Jake remained silent, not answering Victor's question.
Victor's eyes grew even colder. "Is it because Sophia is here that you can't bring yourself to do it?"
He saw right through Jake's thoughts.
"No," Jake immediately denied.
But Victor knew very well that he was lying.
"You should know that once Gabriel is dead, the Lancaster Group will be leaderless and in chaos. The Lancaster family will be left with only the elderly and children. As the illegitimate son of the Lancaster family, you can inherit everything from the Lancaster family."
"With the shares we've secretly acquired, we can definitely push you to the position of CEO of the Lancaster Group."
Jake's voice remained as cold and indifferent as ever, "I know, but we need to find the right timing."
Jake questioned, "What timing do you need?"
Every word from Victor pressured Jake to act quickly; he couldn't wait any longer.
But Jake seemed to have many concerns.
Victor was very displeased.
"If you don't want to do it, then I'll have to take action myself. If innocents get hurt, I won't care." Victor's words were full of threats.
Jake's heart skipped a beat.
"Gabriel can't leave the Country M for now unless he abandons the company here."
Victor saw the fleeting panic on Jake's face and smiled lightly.
"Three days. I want to hear news of Gabriel's death."
Jake replied, "Okay!"
Gabriel was his half-brother. He had heard about Gabriel from his mother since he was a child. His mother said that because his father already had Gabriel, he didn't want him.
His mother said that if it weren't for Gabriel, everything in the Lancaster family would be his, and he would be the heir to the Lancaster Group.
Gabriel worked overtime with the company staff and paid off all the suppliers within a day, even settling those not yet due.
But some people still used this as an excuse to terminate their cooperation.
Gabriel didn't pursue their breach of contract and readily agreed to end the partnerships.
Gabriel's attitude was so good and he kept his word, leaving no excuse for anyone to find faults.
Gabriel didn't get home until midnight, and Sophia had fallen asleep on the sofa waiting for him.
Gabriel walked over and gazed tenderly at Sophia's sleeping face, kissing her forehead with affection.
Sophia, a light sleeper, woke up immediately.
"You're back."
"Yeah, go to bed."
Sophia reached out and hugged Gabriel's neck, nuzzling him.
"Is everything resolved?"
"Yes, it's resolved."
Gabriel simply picked her up in his arms, startling Sophia. She instinctively tightened her grip around his neck.
Then she remembered his injury.
"Put me down quickly; you'll aggravate your wound."
"If you don't move, it won't."
Sophia immediately stayed still and let Gabriel carry her.
Sophia and Gabriel returned to the bedroom, and Gabriel gently placed her on the bed.
"I'm going to take a shower."
Gabriel then took his pajamas and went into the bathroom.
Sophia couldn't sleep, so she checked some news on her phone. The Phoenix Group was the most prominent, followed by the domestic Micro Circuit Group.
She opened Facebook and found a few unread messages that were from Jake.
[I heard you're in the Country M Can we meet?]
[Sophie, do you have a misunderstanding about me? Can we talk it out?]
[If you don't want to meet, we can talk on the phone.]
Jake had sent several messages, all in the afternoon.
Sophia looked at the messages, pondered for a moment, and finally replied: [No need to meet. I already made things clear last time.]
Jake replied instantly: [Can't we even be friends?]
[No.] After sending the message, Sophia deleted Jake from her Facebook friends.
Jake saw the message prompt that he needed friend verification. At that moment, his heart felt like a huge hole had been dug out.
It didn't hurt much, but it felt empty.
His eyes slowly turned red.
Gabriel came out of the bathroom, and Sophia had just put down her phone, ready to sleep.
"Were you waiting for me?" Gabriel smiled.
Sophia quickly lay down, looking at him warily, "No, I'm really tired. I'm going to sleep."
No more sex tonight; Gabriel really didn't know moderation!
Gabriel's hearty laughter echoed.
That night, they slept soundly.
Sophia stayed in the Country M for two more days and planned to return home the day after tomorrow. She had already booked her ticket.
Colin would also return home with her.
When Gabriel was busy, Sophia had nothing to do, so she arranged to meet with old friends.
As it got dark, Gabriel finished his meeting and was about to go home when he suddenly received a call from Colin.
"Gabriel, I can't reach Sophie."
Colin had arranged to pick up Sophia for dinner, but when he arrived, she was nowhere to be found, and her phone was unreachable.
Worried something had happened, Colin immediately called Gabriel.
Gabriel's heart tightened.
"Where are you now?"
Colin quickly gave the address.
Gabriel gripped his phone and instructed Alex, "Deploy people to find Sophia!"
"Yes!"
Sophia had just disappeared.
Sophia's friends, who had met her for afternoon tea, told Colin that they had parted ways around four o'clock, and they didn't know where she went afterward.
Gabriel checked the nearby surveillance and found that Sophia disappeared after walking into an alley, which was a blind spot for cameras. People passed by afterward, but no one saw anything unusual.
Gabriel's hand trembled as he held the mouse.
He was wrong. He should have sent Sophia back home immediately after being discharged. He shouldn't have agreed to let her stay just because he wanted to spend more time with her.
He was damned!
Gabriel's mind was in chaos for half a minute before he quickly composed himself. He suppressed his panic and fear, thinking calmly.
Colin stepped aside to call David.
Half an hour later, almost the entire city was mobilized to find Sophia.
Because of the search for Sophia, several flights at the airport were delayed.
Victor was surprised to see such a large-scale searching operation. He hadn't expected Gabriel to have the power to mobilize so many people, including some significant figures he hadn't anticipated.
It seemed that Sophia was really important in Gabriel's heart.
