Chapter 374 Mommy, Save Me

Today, Caroline relocated. So she hurried home to prepare dinner after leaving the Watson Group.

Sophia brought her three children to celebrate with Caroline.

Caroline rented a two-bedroom house. It wasn't big, but it was very cozy.

She didn't invite anyone else, just Sophia, the three kids, and Vincent.

Vincent arrived later than Sophia.

Caroline took out two bottles of wine. Seeing this, Sophia changed her face dramatically. "I can't drink tonight."

"What are you afraid of? If you get drunk, just sleep here."

Sophia was conflicted. Last night, she thought it was fine to get drunk at home, but then Gabriel showed up!

She was scared.

Caroline didn't push her. She had a headache this morning from getting drunk last night.

So, she poured a few glasses of soft drinks.

Sophia raised her glass.

"To our violinist Caroline moving into her new home and starting a new life."

The three little ones said in unison, "Wishing godmother happiness every day."

Emma ate some food and said, "Mommy and Godfather's food is still the best."

Feeling slighted, Caroline pinched Emma's nose.

"Too bad I made everything tonight. If you don't eat, you'll go hungry."

Emma giggled mischievously.

Around ten o'clock, Caroline saw them off, and the house instantly became quiet.

The empty house felt a bit lonely.

"Sophie."

"What?" Sophia looked at Vincent.

"Have you been overthinking lately?" Vincent was usually busy with work, but whenever he had a moment, he would text her, afraid of a repeat of last time.

"These days, I get to be with the kids every day, and I'm also busy with work. I don't have time to overthink. Vincent, don't worry."

Vincent nodded and said, "It's getting late; you should head back."

"Okay."

The kids were very sleepy. Sophia drove, and the kids dozed off in the back seat.

Vincent stood there, watching Sophia's car gradually disappear from view, unable to hide the loneliness in his heart.

Sophie had no feelings for him.

To Sophia, he was family, not love.

Vincent smiled bitterly and thought, 'Is there really no chance for Sophie and me?'

'Am I  really going to give up?'

His phone rang. Vincent took it out and saw a message from his professor.

The professor: [Have you made up your mind about going abroad?]

Half an hour later, Sophia stopped the car and saw the three kids already asleep in the back seat. She smiled helplessly.

She didn't have the strength to carry all three kids at once.

She had to get out of the car and wake them up.

Sam was the first to wake up. He rubbed his sleepy eyes and saw Sophia in front of him, softly calling, "Mommy."

Sophia's heart melted, and she hugged Sam.

"We're home."

Sam still only wanted to say one sentence, but for Sophia, that was enough.

Everything else could come slowly.

Ethan and Emma were in a deep sleep. Emma was unhappy about being woken up. She pouted and mumbled in her sleep, "Watch out for my invincible fists."

"Let me help."

A deep voice came from behind.

Sophia turned and saw Gabriel standing behind her, not knowing when he had arrived.

According to Emma's description, Gabriel indeed had dark cycles under his eyes and small cuts on his lips.

Sophia quickly looked away, feeling extremely awkward.

Gabriel stepped forward.

As he approached, Sophia quickly moved aside, her heart unconsciously beating faster.

Gabriel looked at her with a hurt expression.

She still despised him.

Gabriel carried Ethan and Emma out. The two little ones were so tired that they didn't wake up despite the commotion.

Sophia carried Sam, who leaned lazily on her shoulder with his eyes closed.

The family entered the elevator. Sophia freed one hand to press the floor button.

The elevator ascended slowly, and the atmosphere was quiet and even a bit awkward.

Suddenly, the elevator lights went out, and it stopped abruptly, stuck between two floors.

"What's going on?" Sophia cried out in fear.

Gabriel's calm voice came from the darkness.

"Don't be afraid; stand against the wall."

Sophia's neck suddenly tightened as Sam clung to her tightly.

"Sam, don't be scared. I'm here."

Gabriel quickly pressed the emergency button and all the floor buttons with his elbow while instructing Sophia.

"Quick, get my phone."

Sophia hurried to get his phone. In the darkness, she couldn't see clearly and fumbled for a few seconds before finding it.

"Turn on the flashlight and then call for help."

Following his instructions, Sophia turned on the flashlight, and the view instantly brightened.

She felt the small hands gripping her neck loosen a bit.

The elevator suddenly dropped a bit.

Sophia pressed against the wall, her heart sinking with the elevator, her mind going blank.

"Don't panic." Gabriel protected the two kids. Through the dim light, he saw Sophia's face turn pale.

Perhaps it was due to his calming voice or something else so that Sophia's panicked heart relaxed. She quickly dialed the emergency number.

Just then, the elevator dropped again, but the lights came back on, and it slowly ascended to the next floor. The doors opened.

Gabriel and Sophia quickly carried the kids out.

"We can't take the elevator anymore. Let's take the stairs for the remaining three floors."

"Okay."

By the light in the stairwell, Sophia saw Sam's face was pale, and he was sweating. Sam tightly pressed his lips together, his eyes shut tight, clearly frightened.

"It's okay, and we're out now. It's okay. I'm here."

"Mommy, save me," Sam half-opened his eyes and mumbled.

"Sam, what did you say?" Sophia pressed her face against Sam's, softly coaxing, "Say it again; I didn't hear you, Sam; I am here."

But Sam kept his mouth shut and seemed to fall into a deep sleep.

Back home, Gabriel put Ethan and Emma on the bed, then returned to help Sophia and Sam.

"How's Sam?" Gabriel reached for Sam, but Sam clung tightly to Sophia's clothes, unwilling to let go.

"Sam is scared. I'll stay with him tonight. You take care of Ethan and Emma."

"Okay."

Sophia carried Sam to the next room.

"Sophia."

"What?"

Gabriel frowned and said, "If anything happens, call me. I'm right next door."

Sophia agreed.

In the middle of the night, Sophia was half-asleep, worried that Sam might have nightmares, so she didn't let herself fall into a deep sleep.

She raised her hand to touch Sam's face, feeling the heat through his skin.

Sophia instantly woke up, turned on the bedside lamp, and saw Sam's cheeks were red. He frowned in discomfort.

"Sam."

She touched Sam's forehead again, her face changing dramatically.
