Chapter 562 The Best Position
Gummidge might've looked all sweet, but she was straight-up accusing Caroline of "hurting the kid."
"Daisy, everyone saw what went down. Your boy was bawling, and you just ignored him. When I picked him up, he stopped. You rushed over to snatch him, and I dodged 'cause I thought you might freak him out and hurt him."
Caroline kept going, "I haven't even called you out for scratching me, and now you're saying I was holding your kid."
She handed Trevor back to Gummidge.
"Don't act like I was dying to hold your kid."
Caroline smoothly flipped the script from hurting the kid to just holding him.
And everyone there saw the whole thing.
Nicholas put away his cane and grabbed Caroline.
Caroline had to bend over.
He checked out the scratch on her shoulder. It wasn't bad, just a bit of blood, and it was already scabbing over.
Nicholas's icy stare was like a dagger aimed at Daisy.
"Apologize to her!" he demanded.
Daisy stuttered, "She grabbed Trevor first."
Aragorn snapped, "Enough! Tonight's Trevor's one-month party. Her being here is scandalous enough. If you mess this up, I won't let her off!"
His eyes locked with Nicholas's, and Nicholas knew Aragorn was talking about Caroline.
The tension in the air was thick.
Caroline calmly adjusted her scarf.
Daniel had just come back from a call outside and saw everyone huddled together, sensing something was up.
He walked into the crowd and noticed a woman's fair back. On her shoulder blade, there seemed to be a familiar mark.
But as he got closer to check it out, a scarf had already covered it up.
Daniel frowned, feeling uneasy. He couldn't be sure if he saw it right.
But asking her to take off the scarf to check her back would be super rude and creepy.
Daniel managed to chill out, especially since the mark didn't quite match.
"What happened?" Daniel asked in a deep voice.
"Uncle Daniel, Caroline tried to hurt Trevor. We're about to kick her out," Daisy said, holding Trevor, who started crying again, making it look like Caroline made him cry.
Daniel looked at Caroline and Nicholas.
'Caroline hurts Trevor?' He found that hard to believe.
"Caroline, how dare you hurt Trevor!" Clayton jumped out from behind Daniel, like a missile aimed right at Caroline.
Caroline rolled her eyes.
She felt like no matter what she said, it wouldn't matter.
Because the Watsons and the Wolfs were tight, they'd only back Daisy.
So she decided to stay quiet.
Caroline walked behind Nicholas, lifting her chin a bit, looking all confident and calm.
This made Daniel respect her even more.
But before she could smack Clayton on the head, Paul angrily grabbed Clayton by the collar.
"You said you wanted to recognize Caroline as your only sister. Do you want me to play it in front of everyone again?"
Clayton's arrogance instantly deflated.
"Paul, I was wrong."
"Apologize to Caroline, nicely."
Clayton hung his head and apologized to Caroline, "Caroline, I'm sorry. I was totally out of line."
Daisy's eyes widened, looking at Clayton in disbelief.
'Even Clayton isn't on my side now?' Daisy thought.
Clayton, subdued by Paul, glanced up to see Caroline giving him a faint smile. It made his heart feel heavy and uneasy.
He couldn't put his finger on it, but he was kinda scared of Caroline now.
Aragorn chimed in, "Miss Clark, you can stay for the party, but just keep it cool, alright? Otherwise, you'll be the one looking foolish."
Caroline stayed indifferent and silent.
Nicholas shot a cold glare at Daisy. "Apologize to her!" he repeated.
Aragorn was about to blow up again, but Daniel stepped in.
By now, Daniel had already gotten the lowdown from others.
"This is totally Daisy's fault. Miss Clark just picked up Trevor 'cause he was crying. Daisy, you got it wrong. Daisy, apologize to Caroline."
Daniel's voice carried authority.
Daisy wanted to argue, but Mia gently tugged at her clothes.
"Sorry, Miss Clark. I didn't mean it. Please forgive me," Daisy reluctantly stepped forward and apologized to Caroline.
Caroline graciously replied, "I've heard that women can get postpartum depression, making them irrational and forgetful. I kindly suggest Ms. Wolf see a doctor."
Daisy snapped, "You!"
'She's basically calling me crazy!' Daisy cursed inwardly.
"Don't worry about me!" Daisy gritted her teeth.
The drama seemed to end there, and everyone thought it was over. Little did they know what was coming next!
Nicholas asked Paul to grab some medicine and took Caroline to his room.
Caroline removed half of her scarf.
"I can do it myself."
Nicholas held an iodine swab, avoiding her hand.
Caroline had no choice but to let him apply it.
"Sorry, I didn't protect you well."
Caroline made a noise in response.
She hadn't wanted to come; he insisted, saying there was a good show to watch together.
After applying two band-aids, Nicholas personally helped her cover up with the scarf.
His warm fingers touched her skin, sending a jolt of electricity through her body. Caroline's ears turned slightly red.
At that moment, Paul ran in.
"Nicholas, it's starting."
"Let's go, we should head out."
"Okay."
Caroline pushed Nicholas out, only to see Aragorn holding Trevor, solemnly introducing him to everyone.
Trevor had stopped crying, his big, bright eyes curiously looking around.
Gummidge walked over. "Nicholas, you should go over too."
Nicholas nodded slightly.
Caroline was about to push him over when Gummidge came up behind him.
"Miss Clark, let me."
Caroline glanced at Nicholas and stepped aside.
Paul came over, "Caroline, I'll take you over there. The view is better, the best spot to watch the show."
Seeing Nicholas approaching, Aragorn's smile deepened.
"Thank you all for taking the time to attend my grandson's one-month birthday celebration. Please enjoy yourselves tonight."
Daisy and her parents stood beside Aragorn, basking in everyone's envious gazes.
"It was all just a big misunderstanding, what Nicholas did. That wedding is still valid. Daisy is the rightful wife of Nicholas," Aragorn took this opportunity to legitimize Daisy's status.
Daisy's eyes widened in surprise.
Aragorn continued, "Daisy has given the Watsons a son—she's done a lot for our family."
He looked at Nicholas. "Nicholas, you must treat Daisy well and love her more."
"Come, hold your son."
Nicholas had been silent all this time. He looked at Aragorn with no emotion, "Who said he is my son?"
