Chapter 164 Birthday
Regardless of Mrs. Lancaster's purpose, Tiffany quickly found her best friend at
the hospital and, with tears streaming down her face, relayed the story of how
Gabriel had a mistress who bore him an illegitimate child. She didn't want this
child to affect her relationship with Gabriel, so she begged her friend to help
swap the samples.
Her friend even tried to persuade her to leave Gabriel, but she acted as though
she was hopelessly in love and couldn't extricate herself. After offering her friend
a sum of money, influenced by both sympathy and the offer of money, her friend
agreed to successfully switch the samples for her.
Tiffany had been worrying about how to eliminate Sam Lancaster without leaving
any trace, but now it might just be a good opportunity for her to deal with Sam
Lancaster.
Tiffany was quite pleased with her own cunning and waited to see how things
would unfold.
She hoped the Mrs. Lancaster couldn't accept the outcome and would be so
devastated that she would drop dead. That way, there would be no obstacles for
her marrying into the Lancaster family.
Thinking about it, Tiffany couldn't help but laugh out loud.
……
Ethan and Emma followed Sam to the Lancaster family's estate, mentally
prepared and with their speeches rehearsed, ready to pull Mrs. Lancaster aside
for a private conversation as soon as they were inside.
Sam was in high spirits, bringing his best friends home to the delight of his great-
grandmother.
As the trio entered, Ethan and Emma called out, "Grandma Betty!"
Surprised at first, Betty's face soon lit up with joy. "Well, look who it is! What
brings you here all of a sudden?"
"We came to visit Great-Grandma," they announced upon arrival.
"Sorry, kids, but you can't see her today. Great-Grandma isn't feeling well and has
gone to sleep," came the gentle reply.
Ethan, with concern etching his features, asked anxiously, "Why isn't Great-
Grandma feeling well?" Emma and Sam looked equally worried.
" Don't worry, it's the same old issues. She'll be better by tomorrow. Since you're
here, why don't you stay for dinner?"
Ethan was eager to find out whether great-grandma knew about his and Emma's
identity, but just at that moment, great-grandma fell ill.
If great-grandma knew that he and Emma were descendants of the Lancaster
family, as great-grandma liked them so much, shouldn't she be very happy?
Something didn't add up.
Ethan sensed that the situation diverged from his expectations, and he realized
he needed to figure it out first.
Betty went to get snacks for the children, and Ethan ran off to help.
"Grandma Betty, is great-grandma unwell because she's been shocked?"
"How did you know?"
Ethan said earnestly, "My mommy also feels unwell when she's upset by
something at work."
Betty thought the child was as clever as the young master had been at his age,
with high intelligence and emotional quotient. She affectionately stroked Ethan's
head to comfort him.
"Your great-grandmother did indeed have a bit of a shock, but it's nothing
serious, don't worry too much."
From Betty's words, Ethan continued to analyze the situation. If great-
grandmother was shocked instead of being overly surprised, then does that
mean the test results showed that he and Emma were not descendants of the
Lancaster family?
How could this be?
They had clearly failed to switch the results.
Ethan felt the mystery of the matter growing ever deeper.
Afraid of the bad daddy coming back and spot them, they clamored to leave
after half an hour. Betty couldn't keep them, so she had no choice but to let
David personally escort them home.
After they left, Mrs. Lancaster got up. She didn't want to worry the family and
mustered the strength to join Sam for dinner. When she found out that Ethan
and Emma had visited, Mrs. Lancaster blamed Betty for not telling her.
The following day, Caroline went to great lengths to discover the outcome of the
paternity test.
"Who else wouldn't want the Lancasters to know about your existence?" Caroline
pondered, just as confused.
Ethan couldn't wrap his head around it either.
Who else could it be besides him, Emma, and their mom?
Caroline gently tapped the little fellow's head, "Stop worrying. You’re frowning
like you’ve got the weight of the world on your shoulders. This issue has been
resolved perfectly for now. We'll investigate what happened later on."
Ethan dodged and pouted, " Stop, that's annoying."
" You're too smart for your own good; I might have to slow you down," Caroline
teased, pretending to pat him again, which made Ethan run away.
The serious atmosphere quickly became relaxed.
Soon it was Saturday, not only the day Sam would come to stay but also
Sophia’s birthday.
Sam remembered this day well, and after breakfast, he wanted Daddy to take
him to Aunt Kelly's house.
Ethan and Emma said they needed to prepare in advance; they couldn't let Aunt
Kelly do any housework that day. The three of them were determined to take
care of everything.
Sam hovered around Gabriel, who stopped making phone calls and crouched
down to look at him.
"Is there something you want to tell Daddy?"
Sam gestured, "When are we going to see Aunt Kelly?"
Gabriel raised his eyebrows; had Sophia won Sam over so quickly? He seemed so
eager to see her.
Sam had never shown such initiative to meet Tiffany.
Was it really the bond of blood relations?
"Daddy will take you in the afternoon."
The afternoon? That's too late.
Sam really wanted to tell Daddy to go now, but he didn't dare to bother his
daddy. Daddy looked busy.
The little guy was in a quandary, his small brows furrowed tightly together.
Gabriel finally finished his phone call and returned to the living room to find the
little guy looking glum. He went over and lifted him into his arms.
"What's the matter? Do you want to see your Aunt Kelly sooner?"
Sam nodded, gesturing, "Today is Aunt Kelly's birthday, and I want to go spend it
with her."
So that was it.
Today was Sophia's birthday?
Gabriel vaguely remembered; during the two years he had been married to
Sophia, there was one time when his grandmother called him, asking him to
come home early to take Sophia out for her birthday.
At that time, he wasn't particularly attentive to Sophia since he figured they'd
eventually divorce. That day, after getting caught up with work until past
midnight, he hadn't expected Sophia to still be waiting for him. Feeling guilty, he
bought her a gift the next day.
He remembered Sophia's brilliant smile when she received the gift; she was very
happy.
"Then let's set off now."
Sam, delighted, ran upstairs to change his clothes. He specifically picked out an
outfit that Aunt Kelly had made for him, stylish yet warm, and with his little
backpack on, he grabbed Daddy’s big hand.
Father and son left the house together.
Mrs. Lancaster watched them, feeling comforted inside.
"Their father-son relationship is getting better and better," she remarked.
"Yes," Betty agreed, "Gabriel takes Sam out to stay with him from time to time to
foster their bond."
Both thought Gabriel was doing this to cultivate a father-son relationship, taking
Sam with him even when working away.
In reality, while Sam stayed at Sophia's place, Gabriel chose not to return to the
Lancaster’s family estate for convenience when picking him up but instead
stayed at a smaller apartment.
Gabriel drove to the mall, taking Sam along to a jewelry store where they
purchased a necklace worth a million dollars.
Sam looked at a pair of earrings and thought they would suit Aunt Kelly
perfectly.
