Chapter 774: Going Crazy with Worry
Clara stared blankly at Alex, not hearing a word he said. Her mind was filled with the sentence where he said he liked her.
Seeing her dazed and unresponsive, Alex felt a chill in his heart.
'Is she completely disappointed in me?'
Alex felt uneasy.
A guest accidentally knocked over a glass, and the sound of it shattering on the ground brought Clara back to her senses.
"Say it again."
Alex, undeterred, repeated himself.
"I like you, Clara. Will you be my girlfriend?"
"I will, I absolutely will!" Clara's smile nearly reached her ears.
She couldn't wait to give her answer.
Now it was Alex's turn to be stunned.
At this moment, he suddenly felt at a loss, his mind blank.
'What should I do next? Is there anything I haven't done yet? Oh, right, hug her.' Alex was confused.
Alex quickly moved to hug Clara, and Clara opened her arms.
"What's that?" Clara's stomach was poked by something.
Alex remembered the gift and quickly took it out from the inner pocket of his suit.
It was a beautiful diamond necklace.
Clara picked up the necklace in surprise and held it up to her neck.
"Does it look good?"
Harrison suggested him to buy this necklace. He said that giving a gift during a confession would show more sincerity. So, Alex had gone to the store that morning to buy it.
"It looks good," Alex answered sheepishly.
"Help me put it on."
"Okay." Alex stood in front of her, and Clara looked up at him with a smile, making his cheeks flush and ears turn red.
Her neck was graceful and slender, easily encircled by one hand, as elegant as a swan.
Alex's hands trembled a bit. He took a deep breath to calm himself and clumsily put the necklace on her.
Clara picked up her phone and used the screen as a mirror.
"It looks good, I really like it," Clara said happily.
Alex was also happy. He knew Clara didn't lack expensive and beautiful jewelry, and he was worried she might not like it when he gave it to her.
"Congratulations," the waiter said, now daring to approach with the menu.
Having seen Alex's heartfelt confession, the waiter had been watching from a respectful distance, full of envy.
Love was so sweet.
Alex, feeling a bit embarrassed, took the menu.
He ordered many of Clara's favorite dishes, having already found out her preferences beforehand.
Seeing a table full of her favorite foods, Clara liked Alex even more, feeling she hadn't misjudged him.
"Wait." Seeing Alex set the utensils, Clara quickly stopped him.
Alex asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"
"I want to take a picture."
Clara picked up her phone and took photos of the dishes from various angles, then moved close to Alex.
Alex tried to avoid the camera, but Clara turned his head back.
"It's our first day of dating, aren't you going to take a picture?" Clara said discontentedly.
Alex sighed inwardly, feeling a bit unaccustomed.
Clara took several photos until she was satisfied, then let Alex go.
She then took pictures of the flowers and a close-up of the necklace.
Twenty minutes had passed since the dishes were served, and Alex couldn't help but remind her, "Let's eat first, it won't taste good if it gets cold."
"Just a moment, I'm almost done."
Clara selected a few of the best photos and captioned them. [Mr. Scott gave this, Mr. Scott treated me, Mr. Scott said he likes me.]
After posting, Clara urged Alex, "Go like my post."
Alex helplessly picked up his phone and opened Facebook. The first post was Clara's announcement of their relationship.
His heart felt warm and fuzzy.
He used to think such posts were too cheesy, but now that it happened to him, he understood its sweetness.
Alex liked the post, then took a screenshot of Clara's post and made his own Facebook post, with no caption, just a happy emoji and the screenshot.
Everything was said without words.
After doing this, Alex put down his phone and served Clara some food.
"Let's eat."
Clara responded softly.
After they finished eating, the waiter brought a heart-shaped dessert.
Alex remembered they hadn't ordered dessert.
The waiter explained, "This is a gift from our restaurant, wishing you a long and happy relationship."
"Thank you."
Clara usually didn't eat desserts to maintain her figure, so Alex hadn't ordered any.
He moved the dessert towards himself, thinking it would be a waste not to eat something with such a good meaning.
Clara said, "Aren't you going to share it with me?"
"Don't you usually avoid desserts?" Alex said.
Clara felt warm inside.
"Today, I have to eat this. It's our first day together, and this dessert is full of good meaning. We have to eat it together."
"Okay."
They used forks, taking turns eating the sweet dessert.
Clara said, "I hope we last a long time."
Alex paused, deeply gazing at Clara.
Clara smiled brightly.
He suddenly reached out, his fingers brushing her lips gently.
His voice was low and husky. "You have some cream on you."
On the way to take Clara home, Clara opened Facebook and saw fifty notifications.
Thirty likes, twenty comments of blessings and inquiries, including her parents.
She hadn't hidden the post from anyone.
Her parents were probably going crazy with worry at home.
"I don't want to go home," Clara suddenly said.
Alex was stunned. 'Is it what I think?'
"Where do you want to go if not home?" he asked.
Clara thought for a moment and said, "Take me to a hotel. If I go home after posting that on Facebook, my parents will bombard me with questions. I don't want to deal with them tonight. I'll handle it tomorrow."
Alex felt a bit disappointed. "Okay."
Alex booked a room for Clara and took her upstairs.
Clara held his hand with one hand and replied to her parents' messages with the other.
Alex opened the door but didn't go in. "It's late, you should rest."
"Aren't you coming in for a bit?" Clara asked mischievously.
Alex replied seriously, "If you're scared, I can stay with you until you fall asleep."
Clara had intended to tease her new boyfriend, but seeing him so serious, she felt embarrassed to continue.
"Don't worry. I've stayed in hotels many times. I won't be scared."
Having just started dating, she didn't want to rush things. The times she had tried to seduce Alex before were all because she was drunk.
Alex lowered his head and kissed Clara's forehead.
Clara, however, grabbed his tie and pulled him down, kissing his lips.
A thought crossed Alex's mind, 'In the end, I am the one being reserved.'
After the kiss, they reluctantly parted.
Clara closed the door, touching her lips, completely immersed in the sweetness of love.
After going downstairs, Alex booked another room, right next to Clara's.
He didn't tell Clara; he wanted to protect her in this way.
