Chapter 342 Where Are You Taking Me
Paul had been staying at a hotel for the past few days, enjoying a relaxing bath and buying himself some fresh clothes. When he sneaked back from abroad, he only had his documents and a phone that could be tracked as soon as it was turned on. After sleeping heavily for two days, John finally felt refreshed.
"I only managed to borrow this much; you take it first." Paul smiled innocently.
The hundred thousand dollars was a huge effort for Paul to borrow. Ashley had caught up by now, joining Aragorn in searching for him everywhere. He dared not contact his old friends anymore.
Caroline observed Paul, dressed casually with a baseball cap and sunglasses.
"Tell me honestly, did you get into trouble?" Caroline asked.
From Caroline's understanding of Paul, he had never been short of money, carefree about spending, and always carried himself confidently. But now he was hiding and borrowing money everywhere.
If it wasn't because his family went bankrupt, then he must have gotten into serious trouble.
Paul's eyes flickered. "No. Why would I get into trouble?"
Caroline pushed the money back to him. "I don't need your money."
"Your mother is seriously ill; how could you not need money? Take it." Paul handed the money back to Caroline and then turned to leave. "Hurry. Don't you need to transfer her to another hospital? I'll help you."
Caroline looked at the money in her hand, feeling a warmth inside.
Paul was Nicholas's cousin. When Caroline was with Nicholas, he often helped her out of trouble. Although Paul seemed like a spoiled child on the surface, he was actually very sensitive and kind-hearted.
Back then, Caroline went out to teach violin part-time to earn tuition fees. One night, she was harassed by a drunkard on the way back to school, but Nicholas appeared in time to scare the drunkard away.
When Paul learned about this incident, he expressed his desire to learn the violin and asked her to be his teacher.
With Paul's help, Caroline quickly arranged for Lisa to be transferred to the First Hospital, although the professor was currently abroad.
"The professor is participating in research abroad and won't be back for three months."
"Three months!" Caroline heard the news as if it were a catastrophe. Lisa's condition couldn't wait for three months. Caroline staggered, and Paul quickly supported her.
"Is it possible to end it early?" Paul asked.
The doctor shook his head. "Or it might be delayed."
"Don't you have other doctors in the hospital who can perform this surgery?" Caroline inquired.
"The professor has a student who has participated in such surgeries before. I can ask him to take a look."
"That would be much appreciated," Caroline said
After a series of tests, Lisa was taken back to the ICU.
Once the test results were out, the professor's student, Doctor Williams, looked at the reports with a furrowed brow. "This surgery is too complex. I'm not very confident. We can only control it with medication for now. I'll contact the professor to see if he has any better suggestions."
Caroline said, "Thank you, I appreciate it."
Caroline left the doctor's office and went to the intensive care unit to check on Lisa for a while before stepping outside to make a phone call.
"I've recorded three episodes at least. We signed a contract, and you must pay me."
"Caroline, the terms of our contract are clear. If you violate the director's rules during the recording, we are not obligated to pay any fees."
"But I didn't violate anything," Caroline said.
"In the third episode, the director asked you to perform some funny acts. While other guests were trying their best to be funny, you were like a wooden puppet, just going through the motions."
Caroline was about to explode with anger. Unfortunately, she was currently powerless and couldn't do anything to them. Even if she sued, she didn't have time to deal with them.
Caroline squatted against the wall, hugging her knees. Maybe she should just give up; she was too tired. But that was Lisa who had raised her. How could she give up so easily?
Caroline quickly regained her composure and took out her phone to make another call.
"Is the performance at the banquet you mentioned confirmed? Okay, I'll be there on time."
Caroline also accepted a low-paying gig online; realizing it was almost time, she hurriedly grabbed her violin and headed to the Watson Group.
After Caroline left, Paul emerged from the shadows. He furrowed his brows, his playful smile replaced by a serious expression.
Caroline smoothly entered the Watson Group with her card and went straight to the general manager's office, where Josie was already practicing the piano.
"Roberts," Josie greeted Caroline warmly.
"Josie, today I'm here to check on your progress in learning," Caroline said.
"Okay, Roberts. I've been practicing diligently."
"Good girl."
Nicholas had learned about the fight between Caroline and Daisy that day, and Daisy had even complained to him yesterday morning when she saw him.
"Inform everyone, from now on, Daisy is not allowed to enter and leave the Watson Group at will."
Charles was puzzled. "Mr. Wolf is Josie's mother, will this be..."
Nicholas gave him a cold glance, and Charles quickly corrected himself, "Okay. I'll inform everyone immediately."
Daisy had planned to come and cause trouble for Caroline today. She had to drive Caroline away and prevent her from contacting Josie. However, her car was stopped as she entered the parking lot.
Daisy was furious. "I am Mr. Watson's fiancée; how dare you stop me!"
The security guard replied seriously, "This is an order from my captain
"Charles."
Daisy immediately called Charles.
"Sorry, Mr. Wolf, this is Mr. Watson's order," Charles explained.
"Why would Nicholas do this?" Daisy couldn't believe it.
"I have no idea," Charles reolied.
Daisy angrily hung up, hitting the steering wheel a few times before backing out and leaving.
After finishing a phone call in his office, Nicholas received a text message.
"Charles."
Charles entered.
"I need to go out for a while. Later, have Sharpe take Josie home."
"Understood."
Nicholas paused, "Have Sharpe also take Caroline home."
Charles escorted Nicholas out, and fifteen minutes later, Nicholas arrived at a coffee shop in an alley.
Nicholas furrowed his brows.
Upon entering the coffee shop, a mix of smoke and sweat assaulted his senses.
Charles stopped in his tracks.
Nicholas scanned the coffee shop and locked eyes on a figure. "Paul."
Paul turned around with a smile, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Nicholas."
"Come out," Nicholas said. He really didn't want to stay in this smelly coffee shop.
Upon Nicholas's arrival, a group of men playing cards and smoking inside the shop curiously glanced over. Charles exuded a menacing aura that made them quickly avert their gaze, not daring to look a second time.
Paul came out with his coffee, saying, "Nicholas, can you lend me some money?"
Nicholas's cold gaze fell on him. "Get in the car."
Paul had no choice but to follow Nicholas into the car.
As the car slowly started, Paul asked in shock, "Nicholas, where are you taking me?"
