Chapter 614 Dare Not

When Caroline wasn't stuck in class, she'd hit up the hospital to hang with Lisa.

She was chillin' on a chair, peeling an apple for Lisa, with the ward door wide open to let some air in.

A sneaky figure popped up at the door, peeking in like a total creeper.

"Let me see too," Daniel's head stacked on top of Linda's as they both peeked in, looking like a couple of thieves.

Caroline heard the noise and turned her head to check it out.

Linda, freaked out, straightened up and smacked into Daniel's chin.

Daniel grabbed his chin in pain, and before he could even react, Linda had already bolted back to the next ward.

He looked up and locked eyes with Caroline.

Daniel flashed a gentle smile, then turned and headed back too.

As the door shut, Daniel said, "If you wanna see, just go in. Sneaking around makes it awkward."

In all his years, this was the first time he'd done something so sneaky.

Linda's eyes got all red. "I'm scared."

After waking up from her coma, she kept asking Daniel if Caroline was really her daughter.

And she had treated Caroline like crap before, even slapping her for Diana's sake.

Thinking about all this was like a punch to the gut. Linda could barely breathe.

Tears flowed again; Linda's eyes had been swollen from crying these past two days.

Daniel walked over and held her in his arms.

Linda patted his chest. "It's all your fault. If you had told me earlier, it would've been better."

"I'm sorry. It's all my fault," Daniel felt terrible too.

They searched for their daughter forever, dreaming of finding her, only to push her away with their own hands.

Now Caroline didn't even want to acknowledge them.

There was a knock on the door, and Linda pushed Daniel away, wiping her tears.

"Come in."

Clayton opened the door and came in.

"Dad, how are you?"

Clayton had been out performing with his classmates for a week, and when he got back, he heard that Daniel was hurt, so he rushed over.

"Mom, why are you crying?" Clayton asked worriedly, noticing Linda's swollen eyes and pale face.

Linda opened her mouth, wanting to tell Clayton that Caroline was his real sister, but she couldn't hold back her tears as soon as she started speaking.

In the end, Daniel spoke up, "I'm fine. Your mom is crying because of your sister."

"What happened to Diana?"

'Could it be that Diana is sick again?' Clayton guessed inwardly.

"Diana is not your biological sister."

"What?" Clayton thought he had misheard.

He thought, 'The Diana that Linda loved so much isn't my real sister?'

Clayton asked in shock, "Then who is?"

"Caroline."

Clayton was utterly stunned.

After a while, he pinched himself hard.

The pain made him grimace.

"Dad, you're not kidding, right? Diana isn't my sister, but Caroline is?"

'God, if this is a joke, it's too much.' Clayton felt like the world was too fantastical.

Daniel, with a very serious and earnest attitude, told him, "Caroline is your real sister. I'm serious. The paternity test is right here."

Clayton picked up the paternity test in disbelief and looked at it.

Then, he was stunned again.

'Caroline is my sister.' This sentence kept replaying in his mind.

"What kinda face is that?" Daniel asked, clearly annoyed.

If Clayton dared to not acknowledge Caroline, Daniel would break his legs!

Under Daniel's intense glare, Clayton shivered.

"I'm just... shocked. Like, really shocked. Caroline's my sister? What about Diana? Is she my sister too? Did you lose a pair of twins back then?"

Talking about Diana, Linda suddenly remembered she hadn't seen her since she woke up.

Daniel smacked Clayton on the head.

"No twins. Caroline's your real sister. Diana isn't. We messed up back then," Clayton suddenly screamed.

Daniel and Linda both jumped at his outburst.

"Why are you screaming!"

Clayton didn't dare tell Daniel that he had once yelled at Caroline and bullied her.

If he said it, Daniel wouldn't just break his legs; he might break his arms too.

"Nothing, I just remembered something."

Clayton lowered his head and pouted. To him, it didn't matter who his sister was; he would always be less important to his parents. For them, their daughter was always more important, and he was dispensable.

He couldn't explain it, but knowing that Caroline was his real sister made him feel a bit happy.

Because of Daisy, Clayton used to dislike Caroline, seeing her as a third wheel. But later, he gradually realized that Caroline wasn't as bad as Daisy said, and that idea slowly faded away.

Clayton walked out of the ward and bumped into Paul, who was holding Josie.

"Clayton," Paul called out to him.

Clayton looked up slightly, his eyes complicated. "Paul."

Josie saw Clayton and politely greeted, "Uncle Clayton."

This "Uncle" sounded completely different to Clayton than before.

Clayton mused, 'Josie is Caroline's daughter, my niece!'

Something surged in Clayton's heart, and his eyes welled up with tears. He reached out to hug Josie.

Paul turned away.

"What are you doing?"

"Paul, can I hug Josie?"

Noticing Clayton's lost look, anyone who didn't know might think he had just been dumped.

Since he came out of Daniel's ward, Paul figured Clayton must have learned that Caroline was his real sister.

Paul didn't want to let him hold Josie, but Josie, seeing Clayton's dejected look, reached out her hands.

"Uncle, hug."

Clayton's face lit up, as if the sun had come out after the rain.

Paul reluctantly handed Josie to him.

Clayton hugged Josie tightly, looking at her cute face, and felt happy and warmed inside.

"Josie, I'm your uncle," he said.

Josie tilted her head. "Yes, you're my uncle."

That was what Josie had always called him.

"I mean, I'm your real uncle, your mom's real brother, your real uncle."

Josie was almost confused by Clayton.

But after thinking for a while, she understood.

Josie widened her eyes.

Daniel and Linda came out when they heard Josie and saw Clayton holding Josie.

They were both stunned.

"Mr. Wolf, Mrs. Wolf," Josie greeted politely.

Linda and Daniel walked over, and Linda wanted to hug Josie.

She never imagined that Josie was her granddaughter!

Thinking about these things, Linda's nose tingled, and tears started to fall again.

"Josie, don't call me Mrs. Wolf."
