Chapter 225 Make Sure Mommy Enjoy Dating

Before bed, Sophia sorted out the clothes, preparing the next day's outfits for the two little ones and tucking away the freshly washed laundry. That's when she saw a princess dress—the same style worn by the video game whiz Milk Sugar.
‘If I recall correctly, that princess dress was sent over by Mrs. Lancaster.’
This Milk Sugar, still Larry’s little goddess, I often heard him rave about how incredible she was at gaming, although she never showed her face on her live streams.
Sophia casually hung the dress in the closet, glanced at the two little ones already fast asleep, then silently stepped out of the room and knocked on Caroline's door.
"What's up?" Caroline asked, a hint of confusion in her voice.
"Did you take Ethan and Emma out yesterday?"
"Yes."
Sophia took a deep breath. "Where did you go?"
"Just to the amusement park for a bit."
"Really?"
Caroline's heart pounded, and she struggled to avoid Sophia's probing eyes, nodding emphatically, "Of course, it's true. Why the sudden questions?"
"It's nothing, I was just worried you might run into Gabriel."
"Don't worry, we wore masks and hats. Gabriel's never seen them; he wouldn't recognize us. You worry too much."
Maybe she was indeed overthinking it?
Emma, blissfully unaware in her sleep, dreaming of eating all sorts of treats and playing games with Kyi, had no idea how close her mom had come to discovering her secret identity.
...
After work, Sophia went straight home to pick up the kids. Jake was waiting downstairs.
"Big bro!" Emma saw Jake and immediately let go of her mom's hand, dashing toward him, and as she descended the steps, he quickly moved to catch the little tyke.
Jake scooped Emma up with her armpits, spinning her around in the air twice.
Emma giggled joyfully, "Brother Jake, I'm dizzy!"
He put her down gently.
"Did you miss me?"
"Yep, a lot! I want you to teach me to ski again."
"What about you, Ethan?"
Ethan nodded; he wanted to learn chess from big bro. Jake's chess skills were beyond cool.
"Well, this weekend I'll teach you guys chess, and if the weather's nice, we'll go skiing."
"Wow, awesome!"
Sophia was surprised. The kids had only met Jake twice, but they already adored him so much.
This time, Jake drove while Sophia accompanying the kids in the backseat.
She had wanted to invite Caroline along, but Caroline had her own things to do, so she took the kids to grab dinner with Jake instead.
"Dinner is on me tonight; you're not allowed to argue with that," Sophia had made clear beforehand.
Jake offered a resigned smile: "Alright, you've got it. I won't argue."
They pulled up on East Hill Street and found a parking spot. Emma's eyes widened in excitement as she gazed at the bustling night market outside.
The local night markets seemed even more crowded than those abroad—so lively, filled with delicious food and fun attractions.
Sophia had already figured out Jake's tastes after one dinner and had diligently picked a trendy restaurant that would suit their palate—booking a table on the third floor beside the window, where they could enjoy the city lights while dining.
When they arrived, a long queue waited outside, everyone hoping to get a table.
Sophia felt lucky she had reserved ahead of time; otherwise, they'd be waiting in line like everyone else.
Initially, she hadn't planned to bring Ethan and Emma along to dinner with Jake, but with Caroline not being home, she didn't feel comfortable leaving the kids alone, so she brought them along.
Emma chattered away with Jake, while Ethan, being the cool one, got caught up in the stories Jake shared.
With nothing to do, Sophia pulled out her phone to kill time.
As the server brought the dishes, Sophia laid her phone on the table. By the time the food was served, she picked up her phone again to lock the screen and stash it in her purse, it was too late—Jake caught a glimpse of the content displayed on her screen, even though it was upside down from where he sat.
Dinner was satisfying; the food was delicious, and with the kids around, there were no awkward moments.
After eating, they strolled down the streets to help digest the meal, and Emma couldn't resist snacking on more treats, filling her little belly to the brim.
On the way home, Emma was reluctant to leave.
"Mommy, can we go out to eat with Uncle Jake again soon?"
"Do you really like Uncle Jake that much?"
Emma nodded: "Uncle Jake is so handsome, and his stories are so funny!"
"What about you, Ethan?" Sophia turned to ask her son.
"Uncle Jake is really good at chess."
After baths, the two little ones whispered on the bed in their room.
"Ethan, what do you think about asking Uncle Jake to be our daddy?" Emma's long hair was down, her usual playfulness replaced by the serene gentleness of a lady.
Ethan held his forehead in thought: "Mommy has to like him for that to happen."
Ethan felt that, as long as mommy liked someone and it made her happy, it didn't matter who became their daddy.
"I think the ‘bad guy daddy’ might not be that bad," she mused.
At her words, Ethan fell silent.
Honestly, deep down he yearned for a daddy too. He wanted to do all the things other kids did with their fathers.
But this longing wasn't as intense as Emma's.
He could give it up for his Mommy's sake.
Ethan felt that he had to carefully break this to Emma.
"What if, one day, Daddy finds out we're his kids and wants to fight Mommy for us? Who would you choose, Daddy or Mommy?"
Without a second thought, Emma blurted out, "Mommy, of course!"
"After we help Mommy get Sam back, let's encourage her to find a boyfriend," suggested Ethan.
Emma just nodded in agreement.
They were determined to be on their best behavior—no fussing, no fighting—to make sure Mommy could enjoy dating.
Meanwhile, Sophia, ever on their minds, was wrestling with the task of finding a lawyer. She eventually reached out to Drake Law Firm. The following day, they recommended a lawyer to her.
Sophia made another call to the Jones family.
This time, Uncle Jones answered.
"I need to see you," he demanded.
"All right, I'll come by this afternoon."
That afternoon, Sophia took some time off and, along with her attorney, headed straight to "Jones’ Chicken."
...
Tiffany was having a rough time lately, attending high-society soirées where everyone superficially praised her as the future Mrs. Lancaster, while behind her back they mocked her for not securing Gabriel despite spending years together.
Fuming and helpless, Tiffany faced these well-connected women she dared not to offend.
To make matters worse, Gabriel had been somewhat distant. Recently, at dinner, her attempt at intimacy was met with rejection, fueling Tiffany's deepening insecurity.
Though Gabriel was oblivious to her machinations, she couldn't pinpoint why he was growing colder towards her.
After much deliberation, she could only blame Sam and Sophia for her woes.
