Chapter 439 Made It Through

Sophia didn't buy Tiffany's excuses.

She walked in and saw Tiffany about to smother Ruth with a blanket.

If she hadn't shown up, who knew what would've happened? Ruth might have been smothered.

Sophia's anger flared, and she wanted to teach Tiffany a lesson.

"Sophia, hit me again, and I'll sue you. You have no proof I was trying to smother her."

"She's Gabriel's relative, so she's mine, too. Why would I do that? I'm not heartless like you. I could never commit murder."

Tiffany snapped back, tears streaming down her face like she was the victim.

Sophia wanted to argue, but Ruth stopped her.

Ruth grabbed Sophia's hand and shook her head.

Just then, Betty came back with Ruth's meds.

"Betty, throw her out. Anyone who let her in today loses a month's pay."

Betty called the bodyguards, who dragged Tiffany out.

Tiffany screamed, but it didn't help. A red handprint marked her cheek.

In the ward, Ruth patted Sophia's hand.

"Your timing was off."

Sophia was confused. "Ruth, what do you mean?"

If she'd been later, Ruth would've been in real danger.

"I was pretending to sleep. I knew she was there," Ruth pulled out an alarm from under the blanket. "I've been blocking her from marrying Gabriel for years. She acts nice but secretly wants me gone."

"I planned to press the alarm when she covered my face. Fortunately, you stopped her just in time."

Ruth sighed.

Sophia didn't agree with Ruth's risky plan. She looked serious.

"Ruth, you're too old for such risks. What if you couldn't press the alarm in time? Don't do that again."

"I'd rather she keep doing bad things than see you hurt."

Ruth, touched, patted Sophia's hand, tears in her eyes.

"Okay, I promise I won't take such risks again."

Sophia smiled. "Good. We shouldn't risk our safety."

She then raised her hand proudly. "I slapped her to teach her a lesson for you."

"Does your hand hurt?" Ruth asked kindly.

"No."

Alex rushed in and scolded Dylan.

"I told you Mr. Lancaster and Tiffany had broken up. Why'd you let her in? If you don't want to be head of security, just say so!"

Dylan trembled. "Ms. Foster used to be close with Mr. Lancaster, so I didn't think much of it. I'm sorry, Alex. I won't let her in again."

Alex was disappointed. "Their pay will come out of yours."

Dylan reluctantly agreed, "Got it."

Ruth called them in.

"From now on, follow Sophia's orders. Her word is as good as mine and Gabriel's."

Alex and Dylan answered together, "Yes."

Gabriel had no incidents today. His vital signs were still weak, and he was in constant danger.

Sophia could only watch Gabriel from a distance.

Harrison finally got back and rushed to the hospital straight from the airport. After checking on Gabriel and getting the full story, he visited Ruth.

The next day, Harrison held a press conference. He confirmed Gabriel's injury, reassured the shareholders, and updated everyone on the latest chip development to calm nerves.

Sophia took time off work, splitting her days between home and the hospital.

At Lancaster Manor, with Sophia around, the servants worked smoothly. She turned down the visiting relatives.

One night, Sophia woke up from a nightmare, drenched in sweat. She looked out the window, feeling uneasy.

She had dreamt Gabriel confessed his love and apologized for everything, only to be stabbed and die in her arms.

Her phone rang; it was Betty from the hospital.

"Ms. Kelly, something's wrong. Mr. Lancaster is in critical condition and has been rushed to the emergency room."

"I'm on my way."

Sophia got up, accidentally waking Ethan. Soon, Sam and Emma were awake, too.

The kids insisted on going to the hospital with her.

Sophia, scared, felt a bit more at ease holding her kids.

At the hospital, Ruth and Betty were anxiously waiting outside the emergency room.

"How is it going?"

"He went in an hour ago."

Alex and Harrison arrived, looking serious.

Time crawled, each second torturous for Sophia.

She whispered, "Gabriel, if you wake up, I’ll forgive you."

An hour later, the doctor came out smiling.

"Mr. Lancaster pulled through and is out of danger!"

Everyone sighed in relief.

Sophia was stunned, then smiled and hugged the kids.

"Your daddy will get better soon."

"That's great. If daddy didn't wake up, I would be planning to get a new daddy," Emma said with a bit of sass.

Sophia tapped her nose affectionately.

Emma cried secretly every night, thinking Sophia was unaware.

Ethan seemed calm but was deeply worried.

Sam's worry was obvious, though he said nothing.

Gabriel was moved back to the ICU. He needed another day of observation before being transferred to a regular ward.

At dawn, Gabriel briefly woke up before falling back asleep.

By nine in the morning, after a series of tests, Gabriel's indicators were normal, and he was moved out of the ICU.

They could finally see Gabriel up close.

Sophia looked at his good-looking face.

He had lost a lot of weight, his cheekbones more prominent.

His chin was covered in stubble, prickly to the touch.

His lips were dry and cracked, so Sophia used a cotton swab to moisten them.

The kids didn't dare speak; they just watched quietly.

Around noon, Gabriel finally woke up.
