Chapter 693 Misunderstanding

Gabriel didn't come home again last night. Sophia kept an eye on the news online, and people were talking trash about the Lancaster Group. But despite the negativity, the company's reputation was still holding up, so most folks still had faith in the Lancaster Group and Gabriel.

At breakfast, Ruth noticed Sophia seemed a bit out of it.

Ruth smirked. "Sophie, you worried about Gabriel?"

Sophia paused for a moment, still holding a piece of bread.

"Yeah, Grandma, is the Lancaster Group really in trouble this time?" Sophia admitted, showing her concern for Gabriel.

Ruth's smile widened, showing she knew Sophia still cared a lot about Gabriel.

"Don't worry, Gabriel can handle it," Ruth said confidently.

Ruth had a lot of faith in Gabriel. When his parents passed away unexpectedly, many people tried to take over the Lancaster Group. But Gabriel stepped up and turned things around, keeping the company afloat.

Sophia nodded.

Ruth's eyes sparkled. "Sophie."

"Yes?"

"Gabriel's so busy he probably forgets to eat. Can you do me a favor and have lunch with him today?"

Sophia agreed without hesitation.

She sent Gabriel a message, asking him to meet her at the Lancaster Group from Fusion Dynamics Corporation around 11:30.

Around noon, as the Lancaster Group employees went out for lunch, Sophia avoided the rush and took the elevator straight to the executive office.

"Miss Kelly!" Alex saw Sophia step out of the elevator, surprise and panic flashing across his face.

But Sophia didn't notice his expression. She walked over with a slight smile, carrying two insulated lunch boxes.

Sophia said, "Is Gabriel done with his work? Grandma asked me to bring him lunch."

Alex stammered, "Mr. Lancaster is still busy."

"Then I'll wait for him inside," Sophia said.

She headed towards Gabriel's office, but Alex quickly blocked her path.

"Is there someone else in his office?" Sophia realized there might be someone in Gabriel's office. Not wanting to intrude, she said, "I'll wait for him in the lounge. Let me know when he's done."

"Okay," Alex said, wiping sweat from his forehead.

Alex thought, 'Why did Miss Kelly have to come now? If she finds out what Mr. Lancaster's doing inside, she'll be furious. It'd make things harder for Mr. Lancaster to win her over. Should I go in and tell Mr. Lancaster? But it's a critical moment; I shouldn't disturb him.'

Alex paced anxiously at the door.

Sophia waited in the lounge, her stomach growling, but she wanted to wait for Gabriel to eat together. After all, Ruth had asked her to have lunch with him.

She held her stomach, staring at the two insulated lunch boxes in front of her. A mix of familiar and strange feelings welled up inside her.

When she and Gabriel were married, Ruth had asked her to bring him lunch and eat with him.

When she arrived at the company, Gabriel was in a meeting, so she waited in the lounge.

In the end, she fell asleep in the lounge, and when Gabriel finished his meeting, he went straight out for social engagements.

She was left in the lounge, and the meals were already cold.

How did she feel back then?

Disappointed, sad, like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her.

She never thought she'd find herself waiting in the lounge with two lunch boxes again, years later.

Would he ignore her this time too?

Sophia's mind wandered far away.

Half an hour passed, but Gabriel was still not done. Sophia got up and walked out. Just as she was about to ask Alex how much longer Gabriel would be, the door to the president's office opened from the inside.

A slender, beautiful woman walked out, her face glowing with happiness.

"Mr. Lancaster, see you tonight," she said in a flirty tone.

Alex froze, thinking, 'I'm doomed!'

The woman turned and saw Sophia. She narrowed her eyes and elegantly wiped the smudged lipstick from her lips. She mistook Sophia for Gabriel's secretary and gave her a disdainful look before strutting away in her high heels.

Sophia returned to the lounge without a word and picked up one of the lunch boxes.

Alex called, "Miss Kelly."

Sophia said, "The one inside is from Grandma for him. Please pass it to him, Alex. I have something to do, so I'll leave now."

Sophia smiled, but she seemed unhappy. She turned and left.

"Miss Kelly, wait." Alex tried to stop Sophia, but she walked too fast. The elevator happened to be on that floor, and Sophia quickly got in.

Alex hurriedly ran into Gabriel's office.

Gabriel was massaging his temples, trying to take a brief rest.

He hadn't slept all night and was extremely exhausted, but he couldn't rest yet. There were still many things to deal with in the afternoon.

Alex shouted, "Mr. Lancaster!"

As soon as Alex entered, Gabriel's right eyelid twitched violently.

Alex continued, "Miss Kelly came to bring you lunch. She waited for half an hour, and then saw Miss Taylor. Miss Kelly seems to have misunderstood. She left the lunch box and walked away."

Gabriel's eyes snapped open, and he stood up so quickly that his chair almost tipped over.

Gabriel asked, "How long has she been gone?"

Alex replied, "She should be at the parking lot by now."

Gabriel rushed out like a whirlwind. Alex only felt a gust of wind, and then Gabriel was gone.

Alex's heart was in his throat. Gabriel had to catch up with Sophia.

Sophia was fuming. From the moment she saw that woman coming out of Gabriel's office, her anger had surged.

It was ridiculous. She was constantly worried about Gabriel amidst her busy schedule. She also took time out of her hectic day to bring him lunch.

But what was Gabriel doing? No matter how busy he was, he didn't forget to have a rendezvous with a beautiful woman in his office.

Luckily, she hadn't remarried Gabriel. If she had, would she be hurt by him again?

Tears suddenly welled up in Sophia's eyes.

Sitting in the driver's seat, she raised her hand to wipe away the tears.

So, his previous confessions and kindness to her were probably all for the sake of the children. They were all fake.

"Liar!" Sophia cursed angrily.

She was indeed better off without love and shouldn't have hoped for anything from Gabriel.

"Bastard!" Sophia cursed, and tears fell.

Suddenly, the passenger door was opened, and a figure jumped in.

Sophia was startled, her mouth opened, and the curse stuck on her tongue. Tears rolled down her cheeks, and more gathered in her eyes, her expression dazed and adorable.

Gabriel, slightly out of breath from running, urgently grabbed Sophia's hand. "Sophie."
