Chapter 493 Seizing Power
The selection process at Fusion Dynamics Corporation wrapped up, and six designers were picked as trainees for a three to six-month stint.
Sophia handed off most of her tasks at the Lancaster Group to others.
On the last day of the handover, Sophia and Larry treated everyone to a celebratory meal.
Lee leaned in close to Sophia and whispered, "Kathy also got into Fusion Dynamics. Watch out for her; she gives you weird looks."
Sophia nodded. "Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be careful."
Lee also tried out for the selection but didn't make it.
The celebration ran late, and by the time Sophia got home, it was already eleven. The kids were asleep, and Ruth had gone to bed.
A dim, warm light guided her way inside.
"You're back," a deep voice suddenly said, startling Sophia.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
Gabriel was sitting in the living room. He stood up and looked at Sophia gently. "Did I scare you? I'm sorry."
Sophia pressed her lips together. "It's fine. I'm going to bed."
Gabriel said, "I was waiting for you to come back."
"What?" Sophia stopped in her tracks.
"You used to wait for me. Now it's my turn to wait for you," Gabriel said, his eyes sincere.
Sophia felt a slight stir in her heart. While she was in a daze, Gabriel had already walked up to her.
"Do you want a late-night snack?" Gabriel asked.
Sophia shook her head. "I'm not hungry. I just ate."
Gabriel noticed the faint dark circles under her eyes and felt a pang of heartache.
She was very driven in her career, seizing every opportunity to advance.
He admired this ambitious side of Sophia but also felt sorry for her lack of sleep.
"Then get some rest."
"Okay."
Gabriel followed Sophia upstairs. After she entered her room, he stood there for another two minutes before heading to his study.
At the Watson Group, the conference room was packed. Aragorn was seated at the head of the table, and Nicholas saw him as soon as he walked in.
After falling ill, Aragorn had stepped back from the company and hadn't been involved in its affairs for years.
Today, Aragorn's sudden appearance and the convening of a board meeting left everyone puzzled.
The attendees exchanged uneasy glances.
Nicholas quietly waited for Aragorn to speak.
"Everyone, I've gathered you here today to announce something," Aragorn said sternly, his voice commanding respect. "Starting today, I will be coming to the office every day. All major decisions will require my approval."
The room erupted into murmurs, resembling a bustling supermarket.
"Is Mr. Aragorn Watson taking back control?"
"Is Mr. Aragorn Watson's health better now?"
"What about Mr. Nicholas Watson?"
"Everyone, quiet down," Aragorn said, satisfied with their reactions.
Once the room was silent, he continued, outlining his intention to regain control of the Watson Group.
No one objected to Aragorn's return.
Especially since Nicholas hadn't said a word throughout the meeting.
No one could tell what Nicholas was thinking.
After the board meeting, Aragorn called a meeting with the senior management of each department.
Aragorn's old office had been kept clean and ready. After the meeting, he went straight there and called Nicholas in.
"Tell me about the current state of the company," Aragorn said, sitting in his leather chair.
Nicholas said, "Sharpe, stay."
Then he wheeled himself out of the room.
Aragorn slammed his hand on the desk in anger.
But no matter how furious Aragorn got, Nicholas didn't stop.
Sharpe waited until Aragorn calmed down before starting a brief report.
After so many years, Aragorn's attempt to regain control couldn't be about the money, as everything would go to Nicholas after his death.
Others couldn't understand Aragorn's motives, but Nicholas had a good guess.
Because Nicholas was disobedient, Aragorn wanted to regain control of the company to force him into compliance.
Nicholas let out a mocking laugh.
Aragorn's actions were only causing himself more stress. The Watson Group was no longer the fragile company it once was.
Under Nicholas' leadership, the Watson Group had thrived, and both board members and employees had benefited from his leadership.
There was no need for them to listen to Aragorn again.
Sure enough, within a day of Aragorn's return, he was already frustrated by the lack of cooperation.
His decisions were met with lip service and no real action.
Some long-time employees even advised him to go back and take care of his health.
Nicholas didn't care about any of this. If Aragorn wanted to make a fuss, he could go ahead.
Whenever Aragorn asked for a work report, Nicholas sent Sharpe.
After the concert, rumors spread at school that Caroline had a boyfriend.
Kieran didn't believe it. At lunch, he saw Caroline eating with Wesley in the cafeteria. He walked over with his tray and sat across from Caroline.
He gave Wesley a look, and after a moment's hesitation, Wesley stood up with his tray. "Ms. Clark, Kieran, enjoy your meal. I just remembered I have something to do."
Caroline immediately understood that Kieran wanted to talk to her.
She nodded.
After Wesley left, Kieran looked at Caroline, thinking about how to start.
Caroline said, "Mr. Hughes, just say what you want to say."
"I heard you have a boyfriend. Is it true?" Kieran asked, not giving up.
Everyone at school knew about Kieran's feelings for Caroline. He didn't believe she was unaware, but she had always kept her distance and politely declined his invitations.
However, he didn't want to give up easily.
Having finally met a woman he liked, Kieran wanted to try his best. Otherwise, he knew he would regret it later.
Caroline thought about the recent rumors. She figured that having a boyfriend might help her avoid a lot of trouble, so she nodded.
Kieran's face instantly showed a look of sadness, and he paused in his eating.
After a while, he asked, "Can you tell me who he is? What does he do?"
Caroline knew that Wesley and another teacher had misunderstood when they saw Sharpe at the concert, so she went along with it. "He's a corporate executive."
A corporate executive paired with a college instructor, and Caroline might even become a professor in the future.
Kieran thought that a beautiful and outstanding woman like Caroline deserved an equally outstanding man.
But he could only feel jealous.
He said, "Ms. Clark, I wish you happiness."
"Thank you," Caroline said with a smile.
