Chapter 667 Scumbag
Caroline thought it over for a sec and nodded.
After hanging up, she shot a quick text to Linda.
Linda was chilling with some socialites over afternoon tea when her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen and saw Caroline's message.
Ignoring the fact that one of the socialites was mid-sentence, Linda grabbed her phone, read the message, and replied with a big grin.
Linda: [Got it. I'll pick up Josie from school, and I'll send a driver for Lisa later.]
The socialite who was talking looked a bit miffed at Linda's sudden phone check.
The other two socialites exchanged looks.
Linda was usually the epitome of manners in their circle. No matter how urgent, she'd always give a heads-up.
But now, Linda was grinning ear to ear.
Sensing the awkward vibe, another socialite asked, "Mrs. Wolf, got some good news?"
Linda nodded, "Yep, great news."
She checked the time and her face shifted. "I'm running late. Gotta pick up my granddaughter. You all keep chatting, I'll treat you to lunch another day."
With that, Linda hurried off, leaving the socialites stunned.
"Since when did Linda have a granddaughter? Did her son get married?"
"I have no idea, didn't get an invite."
"Could it be Michael's kid from the Wolfs?"
Linda, who had come back for her car keys, overheard and her face darkened.
"The Wolfs no longer include Michael's family!"
They were taken aback.
Linda grabbed her car keys. This was a family scandal she didn't want to spread, but as long as outsiders didn't know, they'd still link Michael's family to the Wolfs.
One of them asked, "Linda, what do you mean? What happened with Michael's family?"
"My daughter was deliberately lost by that old witch Mia. Anyone close to Mia and Daisy is against me."
Linda left with her car keys, leaving them to mull over the bombshell.
Recently, Mia hadn't been seen at gatherings. They thought she was just embarrassed after being ostracized last time.
They didn't expect such a big drama!
Soon, the news spread within their circle.
Word got out that Daniel and Michael's family had a falling out because Michael's wife Mia deliberately lost Daniel's biological daughter, causing a decades-long family rift.
Once it spread within the circle, it quickly leaked to the outside world.
Everyone was cursing Michael and Mia. Those who had been close to Daisy now kept their distance, even blocking her.
Linda couldn't control that. She wouldn't actively spread Mia's evil deeds, but she wouldn't stay silent forever either.
Josie found out Caroline and Nicholas had gone abroad for business, so she obediently went home with Linda.
Nicholas and Caroline slept on the plane and finally landed in Country M. It was already daytime there. After checking into the hotel, they headed straight to the base.
Charles had woken up, but he was still too weak to move. His severe injuries and long coma meant a slow recovery.
When he saw Nicholas, tears welled up in his eyes.
Charles had a scruffy beard and looked so thin it was almost scary. He was totally worn out.
His eyes seemed even bigger, and the tears in them were hard to miss.
Nicholas grabbed his hand tightly.
"Charles, it's all good now."
Charles slowly nodded.
He tried to speak, and after a long pause, finally managed to get some words out.
"You..."
After a bit, he continued, "You..."
He finally finished, "I'm glad you're okay."
"Rest up. Blake said once you're awake, you'll get better and healthy."
Nicholas felt a warm rush of emotion. He never expected Charles to risk his life for him.
From now on, Charles was more than just an assistant and bodyguard; he was family.
Charles nodded again, slowly.
Nicholas added, "We'll talk more when you're better. For now, let the nurse feed you so you can get your strength back."
Charles nodded.
Sharpe popped his head in.
"Charles, don't worry. With me around, Mr. Watson's in good hands. You need to get better fast. I'm drowning in work here, hurry up and come help me."
Charles's mouth twitched slightly in response.
Caroline wanted to say something but couldn't find the words, so she just stood quietly.
Charles looked over at her, and Caroline smiled.
"Charles, I came with Nicholas to see you. It's good to see you awake."
Charles blinked.
Since Charles was still super weak, they couldn't stay long. After a few minutes, Blake came to shoo them out.
Nicholas asked Blake about Charles's condition and, after confirming that Charles was gradually improving, he and Caroline headed back to the hotel to rest and deal with jet lag.
While they were in Country M, they had no idea Daisy was causing a ruckus back home.
Daisy found a reporter and had them snap pics of her struggling as a single mom with Trevor.
Before, everyone was cursing Michael's family. Now, seeing Daisy living miserably with a kid, having nothing at home, unable to afford baby formula, and reusing diapers, the netizens' sympathy for the child outweighed their anger.
They started bashing the kid's dad and speculated whether it was Nicholas.
An insider came forward to say the kid wasn't Nicholas's, as Nicholas had publicly shown a paternity test at the kid's celebration party.
Then another insider accused Nicholas of faking the paternity test to dodge responsibility.
Daisy also posted several messages on her social media, misleading public opinion, saying she was at her wit's end and the kid's dad didn't want the child.
Suddenly, the news that "Billionaire Dad Abandons Flesh and Blood!" blew up.
Sharpe got the PR team on it.
But the photos of Trevor were really pitiful. Trevor also had a heart condition and cried every day, barely eating.
When the diagnosis of the heart condition was posted, the netizens' sympathy overflowed, and the reposts quickly hit millions.
More and more people cursed Nicholas for being an irresponsible jerk, and even Caroline got dragged into it, with some suggesting that Nicholas's abandonment of his son might have been her idea.
This made Daniel furious.
Daniel slammed the table, and everyone in the meeting room immediately went silent.
