Chapter 375 Found a Mistress Who Looks the Same
Sam had a high fever, and Sophia immediately called Gabriel.
"Betty, take care of Ethan and Emma."
Gabriel woke Betty up, then grabbed his car keys and headed out.
Just as Sophia was carrying Sam out, the elevator was out of service due to a malfunction and hadn't been repaired yet.
They had to take the stairs.
"Give me Sam," Gabriel said, reaching for Sam.
Sam was burning up and unconscious, reminiscent of a severe fever he had years ago.
Gabriel's heart was tight, his brow furrowed, and he took Sam without a word.
Sophia didn't argue; in such a critical moment, she was worried she couldn't hold Sam while rushing down the stairs.
Gabriel, carrying Sam, moved quickly down two flights of stairs, with Sophia struggling to keep up.
She almost twisted her ankle and fell.
"Be careful," Gabriel's steady voice came.
"Okay."
At the hospital, they were in a flurry of activity.
The next day, Sophia, lying by the bed, woke up and immediately touched Sam's forehead.
"Sam's fever has gone down," Gabriel's voice came.
He hadn't slept all night, so he brought in a pot of water and poured a cup for Sophia.
Sophia, parched, drank the water in one gulp.
Sam was still asleep, his face pale, and his curly hair stuck to his forehead. Sophia gently brushed the hair aside.
Sophia and Gabriel were silent until the doctor came to check.
"If the child wakes up later without any other issues, he can go home to rest."
Ten minutes later, Sam woke up.
Seeing Gabriel and Sophia, he was still a bit dazed, looking cute and confused.
"Sam, do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?" Sophia asked softly.
Sam looked at her without responding.
Sophia's heart tightened, and she was worried that Sam's autism might have worsened.
"Sam, it's Mommy," she said, holding Sam's hand and gently squeezing it.
Sam's eyes moved around, then he pulled his hand back and gestured, "Mommy, I'm scared."
Sophia hugged Sam.
"Mommy's here, so don't be scared. Mommy will protect you."
"Daddy's here, too," Gabriel said, patting Sam's head.
Sam nodded lightly in Sophia's arms.
He was different now; he had not only Gabriel but also Sophia, Ethan, and Emma.
He needed to be braver and never let Sophia and Gabriel worry again.
The doctor came to check again, saying Sam was still weak but would recover with a day's rest.
"The child had a high fever due to severe fright, Mr. Lancaster. To avoid any lasting effects, I suggest checking if he has any psychological trauma."
Gabriel replied, "Okay, thank you."
After the doctor gave Gabriel a prescription, he left.
Gabriel didn't return to the room immediately; he texted Colin and then went to the pharmacy.
Sophia fed Sam some porridge and had a quick breakfast herself. Around nine o'clock, Sophia carried Sam, with Gabriel protecting them from behind, and the family of three left the hospital.
Ella got out of the car, holding the latest designer bag Patricia had bought for her. She opened her parasol and walked towards the hospital.
After a few steps, she suddenly stopped and looked into the distance.
The sunlight was too bright, so she squinted, unable to see clearly, but she vaguely recognized a familiar figure.
'Sophia!'
Ella's pupils contracted so sharply that she almost losther grip on the parasol.
She thought, 'How could it be Sophia?'
'She is holding a child.'
'The man beside her is Gabriel!'
Ella might mistake Sophia, but she would never mistake Gabriel.
Gabriel's noble demeanor and tall stature were recognizable even from a distance.
Their car approached, and Ella quickly used the parasol to shield herself as the car passed by.
Ella's heart raced, and she was unsure whether to continue to the hospital or return to the car, her mind in chaos.
At that moment, she completely lost her sense of direction.
'Wasn't Sophia dead? I'veseen her body sent to the crematorium years ago.'
'Ruth fainted several times from crying.'
'Is the sun too hot, causing me to hallucinate?'
Ella chose to return to the car, turned on the air conditioning to cool down, and slowly calmed her inner turmoil.
Her hands trembled as she took out her phone.
She dialed a number, and it was quickly answered.
Patricia's impatient voice came. "Mom, why are you calling me again?"
Patricia thought, "Ijust talked to Ella yesterday, and now she is calling me again. What does she want this time?'
"Patricia, I just saw Sophia!" Ella said urgently.
"Are you sure? Sophia's been dead for years." Patricia didn't believe it.
"Really. I saw her holding a child, and Gabriel was with her."
Patricia remembered the recent rumors about Gabriel.
She said indifferently, "Mom, that's not Sophia. It's a woman who looks like her. Gabriel can't forget Sophia, so he found a mistress who resembles her."
Ella was half-convinced and asked, "Is that so?"
"I saw their news a few days ago. Mom, you have to help me. I had plastic surgery to look like Sophia for Gabriel. Now, another woman who looks like Sophia appears. If Gabriel falls for her, what will I do? My surgery would be for nothing."
Ella's eyes flashed with calculation.
"Don't worry. I'll help you. I'll visit Ruth in a few days to find out more."
"Okay, thanks, Mom. The custom dress you mentioned yesterday has been bought and will be delivered to you in a few days."
Ella immediately smiled. "You're always so considerate."
Patricia didn't want to talk to Ella for long, so she quickly ended the call.
Ella didn't dwell on what she had just seen.
Ethan and Emma did not see Gabriel, Sophia, or Sam in the morning, so they guessed that something might have happened to Sam.
Sure enough, Betty told them Sam had a fever.
Ruth was also worried, sighing.
Emma refused to go to preschool, insisting on staying home to wait for Sam.
"Sam is sick. Ethan and I need to stay with him, or he'll feel lonely."
Ethan agreed with Emma.
Ruth hugged the two children.
"Okay, then you won't go to preschool. I'll stay home with you to keep Sam company."
The three children were very close, doing everything together. When one was sick, the other two also seemed down.
