Chapter 507 Treatment
Clayton was surprised and happy to see Paul. "Paul, you're back!"
Paul looked serious. "If I didn't come back, you'd keep bullying Caroline."
Clayton pouted. "I haven't bullied her."
He wouldn't dare now. If Daniel found out, he'd be in big trouble.
Paul asked Caroline, "Is he still bothering you?"
Caroline shook her head.
Clayton avoided her whenever he saw her, only showing up today.
Paul finally smiled a bit. "Good. If I hear you're bullying her again, we're done."
Clayton nodded. "Got it."
"Alright, go to class." Paul patted his shoulder.
Clayton said, "Paul, let's have dinner tonight."
"We'll see."
"I'll wait for you, Paul." Then Clayton left.
Paul sat across from Caroline. Wesley felt awkward seeing such a handsome guy defending Caroline. His curiosity was piqued.
Kieran, not far away, noticed too.
He thought, 'Is that Caroline's boyfriend? He looks like a player. Not good for her. She must be fooled by his looks and charm.'
Kieran lost his appetite, staring at Caroline.
Paul and Caroline were chatting and laughing, and soon Wesley joined in.
After the meal, Paul asked Caroline to show him around campus, and she happily agreed.
"Caroline, tell me about your time here," Paul asked, a sly look in his eyes.
"What's there to talk about?" Caroline replied.
"I want to hear it, please," Paul insisted.
Caroline, feeling helpless, thought she'd just mention a couple of things. But all her memories included Nicholas.
In the end, she shared two trivial incidents.
Paul pointed to a spot. "Did Nicholas confess to you there?"
Caroline looked over. That wasn't the spot, but they had kissed there many times.
"No," she answered instinctively.
"Then where did he confess?" Paul asked curiously.
Caroline was about to say but stopped herself.
She gave Paul a strange look.
Paul pointed to another spot. "Did you and Nicholas study there?"
Caroline nodded.
"Why don't you tell me about your love story with Nicholas?" Paul added.
Caroline's expression froze. "There's nothing to tell."
She checked her watch. "I have to go to class. You can wander around."
Paul felt a bit disappointed he couldn't hear more about her and Nicholas.
Maybe because Paul mentioned Nicholas a lot, Caroline dreamt of him that night, recalling their loving moments.
In her dream, she wondered if they would have been happy together if things hadn't gone wrong.
Over the weekend, Caroline planned to spend time with Josie at home but got a call from Blake asking her to go to the hospital for a follow-up checkup.
Caroline had to head to the hospital in the afternoon.
As soon as she walked in, she saw Nicholas.
She paused and gave a slight nod.
"Blake, what tests do I need this time?" Caroline asked.
Blake glanced at her, then at Nicholas, with a smile. "Just wait a couple more minutes."
Caroline sat down, puzzled. The office was quiet, and Blake was anxious seeing Caroline and Nicholas not talking. "Ms. Clark, have you felt any discomfort since you were discharged?"
"No."
Blake nodded and then asked, "Nicholas, do your legs still have no sensation?"
Nicholas nodded, expressionless.
Blake smiled mysteriously.
Two minutes later, there was a knock on the door. Blake excitedly got up to open it.
"Hi, my best friend." Blake happily hugged an elderly man.
After some pleasantries, Blake introduced the man to Nicholas and Caroline.
"This is Simon Williams, the world's most renowned doctor."
Caroline had a hunch, and Simon's actions confirmed it.
Simon checked her pulse and asked a series of questions.
Then he said, "Your body is quite depleted, especially from your last childbirth. You need to take care of yourself, or you'll suffer greatly if you have another child, and the child might not survive."
Caroline's eyes widened. Just as she was about to say she didn't plan on having more children, Simon continued, "You also have a bit of anemia. Blake told me you recently donated bone marrow. It seems this donation hasn't affected you much, but you still need to take care of your health."
After examining Caroline, Simon wrote a prescription. Caroline was about to take it, but Blake handed it to Nicholas instead.
Nicholas took it, folded it, and didn't give it back to Caroline.
"And what's your problem?" Simon asked Nicholas.
Blake replied, "He was in a car accident that injured his legs, and he hasn't had any sensation in them since."
Simon asked, "How long has it been?"
"Almost seven years."
Simon checked Nicholas's pulse, then examined his legs, massaging them for a while. "I'll prescribe a course of medication first. After you finish it, have someone come to me to learn a set of massage techniques. Today, I'll give you a treatment to try."
Nicholas frowned, staring at his legs.
Since the car accident, his legs had been useless. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't stand up. Eventually, he gave up on all treatments.
He had tried every medical method available, most of which were similar to Simon's treatments.
"What? You don't trust my medical skills?" Simon noticed Nicholas' reluctance.
Nicholas said nothing.
Simon smiled. "After I give you this treatment, if it has no effect, you can ruin my reputation. However, if it works, I want you to promise me one thing."
Nicholas looked into Simon's confident eyes, then glanced at Caroline.
Seeing the hope in her eyes, Nicholas said, "Alright."
Half an hour later, Caroline looked at his legs, feeling a shiver in her heart. 'Nicholas must be in a lot of pain.'
When the needles were inserted, Nicholas felt nothing.
Gradually, after about ten minutes, Nicholas suddenly felt a slight pain in his legs.
