Chapter 536 Not Interested
Christina and Diana hauled Paul to the hospital together. Once they got there, Christina's phone buzzed.
"Miss Scott, my bad, I messed up and hurt him. Here's my number." Christina scribbled her digits on a sticky note and handed it to Diana. "I already threw some cash down. If it ain't enough, hit me up."
Diana, totally new to this kind of mess, saw Christina was pretty chill and took the note.
"Got it, thanks."
Christina bolted, leaving Diana to babysit Paul at the hospital.
Diana had plans to grab dinner with an old buddy. When she was heading out, she spotted Paul and tailed him solo.
Seeing him stumble into a car, hammered, Diana freaked out and tried to stop him, which led to this whole mess.
Paul got checked into a room, and Diana used a wet towel to clean him up.
Out of nowhere, her phone rang. Diana picked it up and realized it was super late.
It was Linda calling.
Linda was freaking out since Diana hadn't come home yet.
Diana answered, still eyeing Paul with worry.
"Mom, can I crash at a friend's place tonight?"
Diana decided not to spill the beans about being with Paul.
Linda paused, then asked, "Where's your friend live? I'll pick you up in the morning."
Since Diana had been getting better after her hospital stay, she'd been hanging out more. Linda didn't stop her but was still on edge.
Especially now, with Diana staying out all night, Linda didn't want to be too strict.
Diana knew Linda was worried, so she gave her an address.
She'd just have to show up there early and pretend she stayed over.
Paul wasn't doing great; the doc said he had a stomach bleed from too much booze.
Christina's kick wasn't that hard; Paul had just blacked out from being drunk and the stomach bleed.
Diana felt a pang of heartache, her hand lingering on Paul's cheek. The room was so quiet, filled only with her shaky breaths.
'He's so damn handsome. If only I could snag a boyfriend like Paul.'
'Right, I'm a rich girl now; I should be more confident. With my status, I'm definitely a match for Paul.' With that thought, Diana's confidence shot up, and she decided to stick by Paul's side all night.
The next morning, Paul woke up with a pounding headache and a mouth like sandpaper.
"Water," he groaned.
Diana jolted awake, her eyes snapping open. She shook her numb arm and got up.
"Water."
Hearing him again, Diana quickly grabbed a glass of water, then sat beside him and helped him up.
"Paul, here's some water."
Paul, eyes still shut, thought he was back home in Country Y, being pampered by a servant after a bender.
After drinking, he flopped back down and dozed off again.
A few minutes later, Paul shot up, wide awake.
'Wait, I've been back here for a while. Where would a servant come from to give me water?'
Paul sat up suddenly, startling Diana, who was reading the med instructions.
"You..." Paul stared at her, trying to figure her out.
Diana lit up, "Paul, you're awake! Feeling any better?"
Paul finally pieced it together. "Diana?"
"Yep, it's me."
"Why are you here? Why am I in the hospital? What the hell happened?" Paul fired off questions, rubbing his sore arm.
Diana gently explained, "I found you passed out drunk by your car in the restaurant parking lot last night, so I brought you here."
She decided to skip the part about Christina's mix-up to keep things simple.
Paul, battling a killer hangover, couldn't remember a thing from last night.
He noticed Diana's wrinkled clothes and thought for a sec. He'd blacked out, so he probably didn't do anything stupid.
"Did you stay here with me all night?" Paul asked.
Diana nodded. "The doc said you had a stomach hemorrhage from drinking. I was worried you'd wake up alone, so I stayed."
Paul gave Diana another look, noticing her shyly lowering her head. He started to get the picture.
Paul thought, 'This could get messy.'
Diana was now the heiress of the Wolfs, and he had zero interest in getting tangled up with them.
'Plus, if I even think about messing with Diana, Daniel and Linda would probably kill me.' Paul shivered at the thought.
He then said, politely but keeping his distance, "Thanks. I'm feeling better now. I'll handle the discharge and take you home."
After all, Diana had stayed with him all night, and he was grateful. Taking her home was the least he could do.
Luckily, he hadn't done anything dumb while drunk.
Diana felt a bit let down hearing this.
She thought he'd be touched and maybe ask her out for a meal.
"You can't leave yet. The doc said you need a gastroscopy today."
Paul replied, "I'll come back for it later. If you stay here, your parents will freak out."
"I'm fine. I already told my mom."
Paul's headache got worse. He really didn't want to get too involved with a Wolf girl.
He got out of bed. "Wait here."
Diana didn't get why but stayed put.
Paul went to find the doc. About ten minutes later, he came back with the discharge papers.
"Let's go. I'm outta here."
"Paul, you should take your health seriously," Diana said, worried.
"Are you coming or not? If not, I'm leaving." Paul grabbed his phone, ready to bounce.
Diana had no choice but to follow him.
Last night, Christina had driven Paul's car to the hospital, so it was still in the parking lot. Paul's drunkenness had worn off, so he could drive now.
Diana got in the car and quietly texted Linda, saying a friend was driving her home.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Diana finally had a chance to check out Paul's car.
His ride, like him, was classy and wild.
Diana's heart fluttered again.
As they neared The Wolf Manor, Diana felt time had flown by.
She took out her phone and shyly asked, "Paul, can I add you on Facebook?"
Paul frowned slightly, thinking, 'Diana took care of me all night, so I guess it's cool to give her my Facebook.'
He recited his number, and Diana added him, found his account, and sent a friend request.
When they pulled up to The Wolf Manor, Linda was waiting at the door.
Seeing Paul bring Diana back, she narrowed her eyes.
