Chapter 407 Pregnant
Sophia got busy again after taking on the task Jennifer gave her.
The cops were still digging into Alfred's murder. From what they've found so far, Alfred didn't jump into the sea out of guilt; he was murdered and dumped.
With the investigation heading this way, it's only a matter of time before they crack the case.
Since they found Alfred's body, Tiffany's been a wreck, barely sleeping at night.
She started a new job at another company. Thanks to a recommendation from the Lancaster Group, her boss didn't pile on the work, so it was pretty chill.
But lately, with all the Alfred drama, she had been out of it at work, always distracted.
That night, she couldn't sleep again, tossing and turning until midnight.
Without Gabriel's protection and almost broke, she couldn't cover up the truth even if she wanted to.
Was she just going to sit and wait for her doom?
Tiffany suddenly sat up in bed.
"No way!" she murmured.
"I can't just sit here and wait for my doom! I need to take action."
"I have to go see Raskolnikov in prison."
"As long as I can keep Raskolnikov in check, I won't be in trouble."
In the morning, Nicholas had already left, and Caroline was having breakfast with Josie.
"Josie, why are you so happy today? Did something good happen?" Caroline gently wiped the milk from Josie's mouth.
Josie swung her little legs, smiled happily, and then whispered to Caroline, "Because I can always be with Mommy and Daddy from now on."
Caroline felt a sudden pang in her heart, a dull ache.
She hugged Josie.
"Josie, I will protect you from now on and never let anyone bully you again."
Josie adorably said, "Daddy will protect Mommy, and Mommy will protect me."
Caroline hugged Josie tighter.
In the morning, Caroline taught Josie the violin. After the nanny prepared lunch and they ate, Caroline played with Josie for a while, and then Josie went for a nap.
Caroline thought she would take this time to visit Lisa at the nursing home.
She cautiously opened the door, and there were still bodyguards outside.
Caroline frowned.
Thinking she still wasn't allowed to go out, Caroline angrily prepared to go back.
"Ms. Clark, are you going out?" the bodyguard spoke up.
Caroline stopped.
The bodyguard said, "Where are you going? I'll notify the driver to prepare the car."
Nicholas was letting her go out?
Caroline immediately showed a look of joy.
"I don't need a driver; I can call a cab myself."
The bodyguard sternly said, "Mr. Watson instructed that if you goes out, you must be driven by the driver."
Caroline frowned again.
She thought, 'Nicholas is letting me go out but insists on having someone follow me. Is he afraid I will run away?'
'With Josie here, where could I run to?'
Caroline couldn't refuse; otherwise, she wouldn't be able to go out. She had to accept this arrangement.
At the nursing home, seeing the peaceful and beautiful surroundings, Caroline felt half relieved.
When she saw Lisa, who looked well and had a smile on her face, Caroline's heart was completely at ease.
"Lisa, are you doing well here?"
Lisa said, "Very well. You must have spent a lot of money to find such a good place for me, right?"
Lisa felt very guilty, not expecting to be a burden to Caroline in her old age.
"I've found a good job now and can afford it. Lisa, just stay here with peace of mind."
Lisa pushed Caroline around the nursing home for a walk.
Around 3 P.M., Caroline went back.
Josie had been awake for a while, sitting on the sofa with a blank stare and fear in her eyes.
When Caroline walked in and saw Josie like that, her heart ached.
"Josie."
Hearing Caroline's voice, Josie immediately ran over.
"Mommy," she called joyfully.
The previous look was completely gone, but Caroline remembered it vividly.
She took Josie's little hand.
"Josie, when I'm not home, don't be afraid. I'm just out dealing with something and will definitely come back."
Josie nodded.
"If you're scared next time, just call me."
"OK," Josie obediently replied.
Josie now relied more and more on Caroline. In the first six years, she didn't feel much motherly love from Daisy. Now that she was back with Caroline, she realized how wonderful a mother could be.
In the evening, Nicholas came back.
The nanny had already prepared dinner. Caroline and Josie had just sat down when they heard the noise. Josie jumped off the chair and ran to greet Nicholas.
"Daddy, you're back."
"Yes."
Nicholas patted Josie's head and walked with her to the dining room.
Charles brought water for Nicholas to wash his hands, and the three of them silently started their dinner.
Caroline pretended Nicholas didn't exist and only interacted with Josie from time to time.
'Nicholas didn't come back to the Watson family last night, so he should be going back tonight, right?'
'Will he take Josie back, too?'
Caroline was a bit worried.
However, her worry was unnecessary.
She didn't know that Nicholas had already moved out of the Watson family with Josie. In her mind, Daisy and Nicholas were already married. If Nicholas kept living outside, Daisy would definitely be unhappy.
Caroline was afraid Daisy would hurt Josie.
"Daddy and Mommy, can you watch cartoons with me?" Josie asked after dinner, thinking of the things Emma said about parents doing with their kids.
She wanted to experience it, too.
"Sure," Nicholas agreed without hesitation.
Caroline certainly wouldn't refuse.
So, after dinner, the three of them sat in the living room watching funny cartoons.
This family of three seemed harmonious, but in reality, Caroline and Nicholas were just cooperating for Josie's sake.
Meanwhile, Daisy looked at the result of her pregnancy test, covering her mouth in surprise, tears in her eyes.
"Daisy, how is it? Do you have the result?" Mia was knocking on the door outside.
After a while, Daisy opened the door and excitedly hugged Mia.
"Mom, I'm pregnant with Nicholas' child!"
Mia took the pregnancy test stick from her hand and couldn't help but smile, feeling a sense of triumph.
Daisy was finally pregnant with Nicholas' child.
Now, Daisy wouldn't have to suffer so much.
With a child, Daisy wouldn't have to worry about Nicholas not acknowledging their marriage.
"Tomorrow, I'll go with you to the hospital for a check-up."
"OK," Daisy said, her face full of happiness.
She couldn't wait to tell Nicholas and everyone in the Watson family the good news.
Mia held her back.
"Wait until the hospital confirms it, then I'll go with you to the Watson family."
"OK. Mom, you're the best."
Tonight, she wouldn't be able to sleep.
Daisy was reluctant to throw away the pregnancy test stick. Looking at the pleasing result, she recalled that night.
'Although Nicholas goes abroad afterward, he doesn't mind, does he?'
'So, Nicholas must still have feelings for me, right?'
'And Nicholas even takes the initiative to kiss me that night,' she thought.
