Chapter 526 Almost There
Celeste wasn't really knocked out, so she woke up when Sophia came in.
Celeste cracked her eyes open, and there were three cute little kids staring at her with their big, innocent eyes.
"Grandma Blackwood, you okay?" Emma's tiny voice was full of worry.
Ethan chimed in, "Grandma Blackwood, you feeling sick?"
Sam just made some hand gestures, asking how she was.
Celeste's icy heart melted a bit.
She reached out, and the kids grabbed her hand right away.
"I'm good, no need to stress."
"Grandma," Sophia said, looking all worried.
Even though Celeste had been kinda cold to her since they got back because of Patricia, the whole online bullying thing made Sophia realize Celeste was still the same old Celeste.
Celeste just had a soft spot for Patricia since she was her real granddaughter, so she played favorites.
Celeste reached out her other hand, and Sophia got the hint, stepping up to hold it.
Seeing Celeste looking so weak in bed, even if it was just a fever and cold, Sophia was super worried.
"Sophia, I'm sorry."
Sophia shook her head. "Grandma, you didn't do anything wrong."
"I was all about Patricia and never thought about you. I even made you teach her design, and then she went and got trolls to bully you online."
Celeste felt guilty. "I wanted to hand over Fusion Dynamics Corporation to Patricia, so I was clearing the way for her. When rumors started that you were trying to take over, I didn't even ask you and just punished the gossipers."
"I messed up. I'm sorry, Sophia."
Sophia shook her head again. "Celeste, I don't blame you. I just know Larry didn't start those rumors. He's nosy, but he wouldn't make stuff up."
"Alright, I'll have Jennifer dig into this and find out who did it."
"Thanks."
Sophia wanted to ask how Celeste was so sure Patricia was her granddaughter, but seeing her so sick, she held back.
She sat by the bed, listening to Celeste. Her words started to trail off, like she could fall asleep any second, but she kept mumbling.
"I wronged Susan, Susan, wait for me, just a bit longer, I'll come apologize..."
Even though it was just a fever, it felt like something more serious.
Sophia's heart skipped a beat. She touched Celeste's forehead.
It was burning up!
She grabbed the thermometer from the bedside table, and when she saw the reading, her eyes went wide.
"Jennifer!" she yelled.
Jennifer was making porridge. Hearing Sophia, she ran over.
"What's up?"
"Grandma's got a high fever. We need to get her to the hospital."
"Okay, let's go now."
Celeste was out of it. Jennifer called David, but before she could finish, she saw Sophia already carrying Celeste out.
"Sophia."
Jennifer rushed to help.
"Jennifer, we can't wait for David. Grandma needs the hospital now. I'll carry her, you support her from behind."
"Got it," Jennifer said, totally leaning on Sophia now.
If they were back in Country M, they’d have a bunch of servants to handle this. But here, they just had a nanny, and she was out grocery shopping.
"Ethan, Emma, Sam, you guys stay put and wait for Colin to get back," Sophia told the kids.
They nodded together, "Mom, don’t worry, we won’t go anywhere."
"Good."
Sophia, even though she was pretty frail, pushed through carrying Celeste, not complaining once.
Jennifer watched, feeling all kinds of emotions.
As they got out of the elevator, they bumped into Patricia.
Patricia looked rough, still pale and worn out. She was here to apologize to Celeste.
It was snowing hard outside, and she didn’t have an umbrella, so she was covered in snow.
Seeing them, Patricia asked, "What’s wrong with Celeste?"
"Move!" Sophia snapped.
Patricia was blocking their way.
"Sophia, you..." Patricia started to snap back.
"Move, Celeste is sick and needs the hospital now," Jennifer, fed up with Patricia’s timing, pushed her aside.
Sophia rushed out with Celeste on her back.
As they got to the car, Patricia tried to get in too.
"Get out," Sophia shoved her.
"Sophia, she’s my grandma. Don’t push it."
"The more you argue, the worse it gets for Celeste. Patricia, you really wanna argue now?" Sophia’s intense stare made Patricia back off.
Jennifer had never found Patricia so annoying.
"Get out. We’ll talk later."
Feeling hurt, Patricia bit her lip and stepped out. Sophia slammed the door, and Jennifer hit the gas.
Celeste’s head was on Sophia’s lap, and Sophia looked at her, worried.
She couldn’t wait any longer. She needed to know the truth about her and Celeste.
Even if it was just a hope, she had to find out.
Emma called Gabriel, who was nearby. He drove over, picked up the kids, and headed to the hospital.
Celeste was already in a ward, getting a fever shot. Jennifer stayed with her, while Sophia’s arms were killing her.
She had carried Celeste all the way, and now her muscles were screaming.
"Mom!" The kids ran over, with Gabriel right behind them.
Seeing him, Sophia felt a bit calmer.
"Why are you here?"
"Emma called. I was worried and came to check on you." Gabriel, noticing her rubbing her arm, said.
"Celeste should be okay now. She’s resting."
"Alright." Gabriel nodded, gently pushing the kids into the ward. He didn’t go in but pulled Sophia to sit outside and started massaging her arm.
Sophia was surprised.
"You..."
"Does this help?" Gabriel cut her off.
"Yeah."
The pain in her arm eased up a bit.
She didn’t expect Gabriel to be good at this.
