Chapter 460 Check
Sharpe walked into the Watson Group office. "Mr. Watson, there was a commotion at Michael's house today. Mia won't have time to bother Ms. Clark for a while."
Nicholas nodded, a cold glint in his eyes. Mia had ordered someone to throw acid on Caroline. He wouldn't let that slide, even if Mia was an elder of the Wolf family.
Daniel knew about it because Nicholas had told him. Daniel, being a righteous guy, might even feel guilty towards Caroline after learning the truth.
Nicholas was right.
After changing his bandages, Daniel and Linda went to visit Diana.
Diana had just woken up. She already knew about Linda and Daniel before she fell into a coma. "Dad, Mom, I don't want to die," she cried, looking frail and pale. Her hair was gone and she had to wear a cap.
Declan and his wife were also wiping their tears.
Daniel and Linda felt heavy-hearted.
Linda held Diana's hand. "Don't worry, we'll save you. Tomorrow we'll go abroad for treatment, and once you're stable, you can have a bone marrow transplant."
Diana nodded weakly. "Dad, Mom, I have so much to say, but I'm so tired."
"Then sleep for a while if you're tired."
Diana slowly closed her eyes and fell back asleep.
Outside the ward, Linda leaned on Daniel and cried, trying to hold back her emotions.
In the afternoon, Caroline showed up at a coffee shop near the Wolf Group. A few minutes later, Daniel arrived.
Why did Daniel suddenly ask her out? Caroline nervously touched her cup. Did Daniel know what she did to Mia and wanted to settle the score? Or was he planning to seek retribution for shielding her from the acid?
Daniel noticed Caroline's nervousness and realized he might have looked too serious.
After seeing Diana that morning, he was in a bad mood, but he managed a warm smile to ease Caroline's tension.
"Ms. Clark, no need to be nervous. I asked you out to apologize."
"Apologize?" Caroline was puzzled.
"I know Mia ordered someone to throw acid on you. I'm very sorry. I didn't manage my family well."
After his parents passed away, Daniel, as the eldest brother, had always taken care of Michael's family. Even though the two brothers had separated their families, they were still one family to the outside world.
Daniel took out a check and handed it over. "I've severely reprimanded Mia. She won't bother you again. Please take this as compensation."
Caroline felt conflicted. Because of Daisy, she had a bad impression of the Wolf family, but every time she saw Daniel, she felt a bit more warmth.
When Daniel handed her the check, his tone and expression were sincere, as though he was genuinely remorseful for his family's wrongdoing.
If it were Daisy giving her the check, it would be a different story.
Caroline looked at the amount on the check. It was enough for a down payment on a house in City B.
To be honest, she was tempted.
"As long as she doesn't bother me again, compensation is unnecessary. After all, I wasn't the one who got hurt; it was you. Let's call it even."
Caroline's straightforwardness made Daniel admire her even more. Since Caroline didn't accept it, he didn't insist. He took back the check and handed her a business card.
"Running commercial gigs every day is exhausting and doesn't pay much. This high school needs an art teacher, and the pay is good. If you're interested, contact this person, and he'll set it up for you."
Caroline took the business card. She had been thinking it over. She needed a stable job. Most commercial gigs were in the entertainment industry, and the scene in City B was small. She didn't want to travel, so her earnings were limited.
"Thanks," Caroline said, handing the card back. "I have other plans for my career."
She didn't want to owe Daniel any more favors. Daniel seemed to understand and didn't push. He just looked at Caroline with admiration. Her beautiful face felt oddly familiar to him.
If Caroline entered the entertainment industry, she'd definitely become famous.
"Mr. Wolf, I have to go," Caroline said, standing up.
"Need a ride?"
"No, I drove."
After Caroline left, Daniel sat there, thinking about recent events, his brows furrowing.
Lately, whenever he thought deeply, something would flash in his mind, but he always got interrupted before he could grasp it.
Suddenly, his phone rang. It was Daisy.
After listening to Daisy's complaints, Daniel returned to the company with a stern face and went to Michael's office, where he gave Michael a severe scolding.
"At your age, you still want a child? How do you think Daisy and Samuel feel? I'll give you a week to sort this out!"
Michael hung his head, looking guilty, making Daniel very disappointed.
After being scolded, Michael remained silent, so Daniel left after saying his piece.
Caroline had just left when she got a call from her old instructor. She immediately turned and went to her university.
"Ms. Allen!"
Melissa Allen looked at Caroline reproachfully. "You've been back for so long and haven't come to see me. If I hadn't called, were you planning to not come at all?"
Caroline felt guilty. "I'm sorry, I..."
Too many things had happened since she returned, and she hadn't found the chance to visit Melissa.
Melissa sighed, "Come here, let me have a good look at you."
Caroline was her most valued student. Caroline's violin skills were even better than hers when she was young. She had carefully nurtured her, and fortunately, Caroline hadn't disappointed her.
Melissa and Caroline sat together for a long time. After hearing that Caroline was now doing commercial gigs, Melissa frowned. "Come back to school."
"What?" Caroline looked at Melissa, confused.
Melissa's hair had turned much grayer. She was now the vice president of the music academy and had been following Caroline's growth abroad for years.
Melissa shared her thoughts. "I'll write you a recommendation letter. Come back to school as an instructor."
With Caroline's qualifications, she could indeed become an instructor at the school.
Caroline was so surprised she was at a loss for words.
"But..."
"No buts. If I didn't think you could do it, I wouldn't have helped you even if I could.."
"Ms. Allen, thank you."
Caroline gratefully hugged Melissa.
Melissa wanted to say Caroline should thank someone else, but remembering that person's words, she just smiled.
