Chapter 629 Selfishness

Diana dropped her head, sniffled, and twisted her hands together.

"Paul," she croaked, her voice raw from crying.

Paul stayed silent, but he didn't leave. He just stood there, tall and quiet.

"Did you ever like me, even a little bit?"

She wasn't ready to give up. Paul was the guy she had always dreamed about. Before, she only saw men like him on TV; she never even dared to dream about being with one.

But once she did, it felt like a trap she couldn't escape.

She was scared to hear him say no, so she quickly looked up, her eyes wet and pleading. "If I were really the heir to the Wolfs, Paul, would we have a chance?"

Paul was no stranger to girls liking him or confessing their feelings. Even though he seemed like a player, he knew how to handle relationships.

"Not a chance." He didn't give Diana any hope.

It felt like a knife to her heart. Her nose tingled, and tears threatened to fall again.

"Why?"

Paul replied, "I don't like you. Even if you were a princess, I wouldn't be with you. Got it?"

He looked at Diana, just an ordinary woman. If it weren't for the Wolfs, he wouldn't have given her a second glance.

'Even though Diana got dragged into this mess, does that mean she has no selfish motives?' Paul thought.

Anyway, he just didn't like her.

Paul turned around, showing her his back.

"Since you decided to expose Mia at the last minute, here's some advice. You're no longer the heir to the Wolfs. From now on, the Wolfs have nothing to do with you. Even if you stay in City B, we won't look after you. You'd be better off going back to your adoptive parents and living your life."

"And also, Caroline donated her bone marrow to save your life, not for you to repay her with harm. If you ever go after Caroline again, I'll be the first to stop you!"

Diana's face went even paler.

Her heart kept sinking.

'Is there really no chance between me and Paul?' she wondered.

His last words, full of warning, made her realize there was no hope.

"I get it, Paul. Thanks for telling me. I'm leaving. Goodbye."

Diana pulled her suitcase and walked away, step by step, completely giving up.

Paul got into his car, sat down, and looked at Diana one last time.

In the end, he frowned and called a taxi for her.

Diana didn't know it. She thought the driver just happened to pass by.

"Miss, where to?" the driver asked.

Diana thought for a moment. She had nowhere else to go in City B.

She took out her phone to check her ticket.

"To the station."

Caroline had just finished practicing the violin with Josie. She picked up her phone to check the time and saw an unread message.

It was from Diana.

Diana: [Caroline, thank you for giving me a chance to keep living. I'm going back to my hometown and won't return to City B. Mrs. Wolf and Mr. Wolf are wonderful parents. I envy you for having such loving parents, but I'm not jealous because I also have loving adoptive parents. Caroline, I wish you happiness. I'm sorry for taking your place for so long and for all the harm I've caused you.]

Caroline didn't bother replying to Diana. She read the message, then closed it, treating it like any other text that might get deleted when her phone's memory filled up.

Other than donating bone marrow, she had no real connection to Diana. To Caroline, Diana was just a stranger.

Since the news about Sophia and Gabriel's relationship got out, Kathy looked at Sophia with a bit of fear.

No wonder Sophia was so lucky, getting noticed by Margaret at the company and by Jennifer at Fusion Dynamics Corporation.

Kathy figured Sophia must've started messing around with Gabriel after joining the Lancaster Group.

She never expected that Sophia and Gabriel were married and even had three kids!

In the restroom, Kathy bumped into Sophia again. She didn't even wash her hands and was about to leave.

"Hold up," Sophia called out.

Kathy stopped, hesitating.

"What's up?"

Sophia squinted, probing, "Got something to hide?"

Kathy shot back, "Nope. Don't start with me."

"Then why do you keep avoiding me?"

"I..." Kathy paused, "I'm not."

Sophia sneered, "You better not be."

Kathy was a designer at the Lancaster Group and had been chosen to study at Fusion Dynamics Corporation. She hadn't made any major mistakes, and firing her without cause would look bad for Fusion Dynamics Corporation.

Sophia hadn't paid much attention to Kathy, but her constant avoidance lately had caught her eye.

Kathy didn't stick around, quickly opening the door and leaving.

She didn't dare to mess with Sophia anymore; she was just scared Sophia would hold a grudge for past stuff, so she avoided her.

Sophia was super busy every day and didn't have time to keep tabs on Kathy.

At Fusion Dynamics Corporation, Celeste and Jennifer wanted Sophia to get involved in the core business, even taking her to the shareholders' meeting to announce her identity.

Sophia was still young and not yet well-known in the design world, so the shareholders were skeptical about her being the heir to Fusion Dynamics Corporation.

So, Sophia worked even harder and busier.

Sophia's three kids were not happy.

When Sophia was busy, she had no time for them.

They came home from school without seeing her, only catching a glimpse of her the next morning.

After their complaints, Sophia promised to come home early today to have dinner with them.

"Sophia."

Sophia was about to leave work when Jennifer called her.

Sophia had to put down her bag and head to Jennifer's office.

"Aunt Jennifer, what's up?"

Jennifer smiled, "You seem in a rush. Got something good going on?"

"I haven't spent time with the kids in a while, so..." Sophia explained.

Jennifer slapped her forehead in frustration. "I've been so busy lately that I forgot. Celeste misses the kids a lot. How about bringing them home this weekend?"

Sophia agreed, "Sure."

"By the way, I wanted to ask if you'd like to move back to The Blackwood Manor."

Sophia was stunned by the question.
