Chapter 663 Desolation

Caroline stood off to the side, waiting for Nicholas.

Nicholas's eyes locked onto Aragorn. His voice was firm and intense, and he gripped Caroline's hand tightly.

"Let me make this clear: Caroline is my wife, and she's the only one for me. Always and forever."

"You always put yourself first, so you wouldn't care if I wasn't your son."

"Starting today, I'm pulling all my people out. From now on, I, Nicholas, have no ties with the Watsons."

Aragorn and Gummidge were stunned.

Gummidge yelled, "Nicholas! Do you even know what you're saying?"

Nicholas replied calmly, "I know exactly what I'm saying."

Disappointment filled Nicholas's eyes as he looked at Gummidge.

The only thing he ever got from this family was a bit of Gummidge's love, and even that could be wiped away by Aragorn's words.

Aragorn's face went pale.

He reached out a trembling hand, then his eyes rolled back, and he fainted.

Nicholas's face remained expressionless; he was as calm as ever.

Daniel and Linda stared at Nicholas in shock.

Caroline was also surprised, her eyes filled with mixed emotions.

"Quick, get him to the hospital," Daniel urged.

Paul snapped out of it, glanced at Nicholas, then carried Aragorn out the door and rushed him to the hospital.

As for Daisy lying on the ground, no one paid her any mind; she was completely ignored.

As they left, Linda gave Daisy a kick.

"I must've been blind to treat you like a daughter before. Get lost!"

Linda left, holding Daniel's hand.

Caroline got into the car with Nicholas.

She looked at Nicholas's profile. The sunlight slanted through the window, casting a shadow on half of his face, and in that shadow, she saw a hint of sadness.

She took his hand tightly.

Nicholas turned and met her eyes.

They smiled at each other, saying nothing but understanding everything.

There was a knock on the car door.

Nicholas rolled down the window.

Daniel looked past Nicholas at Caroline.

"Today is Reunion Festival. Don't let this ruin our mood. Caroline, come home and have dinner with Nicholas."

"I've got everything ready," Daniel said, full of hope.

Caroline hesitated for a moment.

Finally, she nodded.

Daniel's face lit up.

"Great, see you at home later."

With that, Daniel hurried back to his car to tell Linda the good news.

Linda said happily, "Then let's hurry back and make sure everything's set."

Their car quickly drove away.

Caroline watched their car's tail lights, remembering the time she and Linda had put Daisy in her place. She couldn't help but smile.

She turned and winked at Nicholas.

"Think Daisy will leave your home?"

Nicholas brushed a strand of her hair.

"Whether she leaves or not isn't up to her anymore. Aragorn won't keep someone who can't benefit him." He paused and added, "Besides, it's not my home anymore."

He suddenly pulled Caroline into his arms, his voice low and a bit sad, "From now on, I won't have a home. You have to take me in."

Caroline thought, "Haven't I already taken Nicholas in?"

"You and Josie are my family," Nicholas said, rubbing his chin on the top of her head.

Caroline leaned into his arms, listening to his steady heartbeat. Slowly, her heart began to beat in sync with his.

After being rushed to the hospital, Aragorn was temporarily out of danger after some emergency treatment.

Paul texted Nicholas about Aragorn's condition.

Paul: [Good news - Uncle's stable for now. But needs more tests.]

Nicholas replied: [Okay.]

Back at The Wolf Mansion, Daniel had someone bring Lisa and Josie over too.

The family sat together, enjoying each other's company.

Linda and Daniel kept serving food to Caroline and Josie.

Clayton looked at his empty bowl and protested.

"Mom, Dad, I'm also your child."

Clayton pouted and thought, "Why does Caroline get all the food from Daniel and Linda, but I get nothing?"

"You have hands, right? Serve yourself," Daniel snapped.

Daniel thought, "Even now, Clayton still wants to compete with Caroline for attention?"

Clayton pouted.

He used to feel that Daniel and Linda were biased. They ignored him to find Caroline, and when they mistakenly recognized Diana, they favored Diana.

At that time, he felt uncomfortable and did many rebellious things to gain Daniel and Linda's attention and love.

But in the end, things didn't go as he wished. Clayton only received criticism and disapproval.

Now that his real sister, Caroline, was back, Daniel and Linda still doted on Caroline, but he didn't feel any dissatisfaction.

He even felt it wasn't enough; he also wanted to join in.

Compared to Caroline's suffering, he was incredibly fortunate.

A chicken leg suddenly appeared in Clayton's bowl.

Josie looked up, her smile bright.

"I'll give Uncle a chicken leg. Uncle, don't be angry."

Clayton thought, "My dear Josie! My angel!"

Clayton was so moved he wanted to cry. He immediately took out his phone, took a picture of the chicken leg, and posted on Facebook: "Josie gave me a chicken leg. Josie is so sweet. Uncle loves you!"

Caroline smiled helplessly and also served Clayton a piece of meat.

Seeing this, Linda followed suit and served Clayton a piece of steak.

Then Daniel also served some food to Clayton.

Clayton was stunned and thought, "Happiness comes too suddenly."

Daniel said in a deep voice, "Hurry up and thank Caroline!"

Clayton, startled, said, "Thank you, my dear sister."

Caroline laughed out loud.

This family seemed more loving than she had imagined.

Caroline's laughter was contagious, and suddenly Nicholas felt all the gloom lift from his heart.

He also joined in serving food, but he only served Caroline and Josie.

As lively and joyful as it was here, it was equally quiet and desolate in the hospital.

Aragorn lay on the hospital bed, his face pale, while Gummidge wept softly beside him. It looked like Aragorn was dying.

Paul sighed, "Aunt Gummidge, please stop crying."

Gummidge sobbed, "Nicholas, how could he be so heartless."

"It's really not Nicholas's fault, Aunt. You should see what Uncle did to Nicholas. Besides, Uncle almost killed Caroline, the heir of the Wolfs."

At this, Gummidge's sobbing paused.

Paul continued to recount all the things they had done.
