Chapter 582 Caroline

City H, it was already evening when they rolled up to the hotel after hopping off the plane. Caroline was stressing about Lisa's health, so they decided to crash at the hotel for the night and hit up Saskia's place at Hope Orphanage the next day.

On the way, Lisa started chatting about her history with Saskia.

"Ever since I bounced to City B, I haven't kept in touch with Saskia. Last time we hung out was like, ten years ago, if I remember right."

Lisa didn't have any kids of her own; she poured her heart into the orphanage. Saskia, on the other hand, was married with kids.

"She should be retired by now. I wonder if she's still doing okay."

Lisa was kinda hyped at the thought of seeing Saskia after all these years.

"Saskia's a solid person. Good people get good karma. She's gotta be in good health," Caroline said with a grin.

The taxi pulled up in front of a small building. Caroline paid the fare and helped Lisa out.

Lisa found the house number from memory and knocked on the door.

It took a minute before someone finally answered.

"Who are you?" A middle-aged woman opened the door.

"Hey, we're here to see Saskia Adams."

Ruby Adams gave them the once-over.

"What do you need with my mom?"

Lisa's eyes lit up, and she grabbed Ruby's hand, explaining why they were there.

A few minutes later, Lisa and Caroline were chilling inside the small house.

Ruby got them some coffee and brought out some fruit, being super nice.

"Hang tight; my mom just woke up."

"That's cool, no rush," Lisa nodded.

After a few more minutes, Saskia was helped out.

"Saskia," Lisa stood up, tears in her eyes. But when she reached out to touch Saskia's hand, Saskia suddenly pulled away.

She looked at Lisa all confused.

"Sorry, my mom's got Alzheimer's. She might not recognize you."

Lisa was stunned, feeling a deep sadness.

Saskia was helped to sit on the couch, and Lisa sat beside her.

"Saskia, do you really not remember me? I'm Lisa."

Saskia turned her head and looked at her, her eyes all unfocused and cloudy.

Lisa wiped her tears and patiently started talking about old times.

"Do you remember Caroline?"

When Caroline was mentioned, Saskia's eyes moved, and she mumbled, "Caroline."

Noticing this, Lisa quickly pulled Caroline over.

"Look, this is Caroline, the Caroline we protected. She's all grown up now."

"Saskia," Caroline called out.

Saskia looked at Caroline, staring at her for a long time.

"Caroline?"

Caroline nodded, "Saskia, do you remember me?"

Saskia looked confused again.

Lisa said, "The fire, the big fire over twenty years ago."

"Fire, Caroline," Saskia suddenly seemed to recall something, clutching her clothes tightly.

Suddenly, she seemed to remember something and excitedly grabbed Caroline's hand.

"Are you Caroline?"

"Yeah, she is Caroline. Saskia, do you remember now?"

"Lisa?" Lisa nodded excitedly.

Ruby, watching from the side, said in surprise, "My mom hasn't been this clear-headed in a long time."

They were all a bit excited and happy.

Even though Saskia was somewhat clear-headed, she still couldn't remember a lot, so Lisa slowly helped her recall.

When talking about Caroline, Saskia seemed to remember particularly well. As soon as Lisa mentioned her, Saskia's memory clicked.

"When you were rescued and brought to the orphanage, you couldn't even talk right. When we asked your name, you couldn't pronounce it clearly, so we all just called you Caroline."

Lisa chimed in, "Yeah, and when we moved to City B, we gave you the last name Clark so you could go to school."

Caroline had always thought Lisa had given her the name, thinking it had some beautiful meaning.

Turns out, her original name might've sounded like Caroline.

Since they didn't know her full original name, they just went with Caroline.

"Oh, by the way, Saskia, Caroline's now on a mission to find her real parents. A few days ago, someone saw a photo of a little girl who looked kinda like Caroline's daughter, so we came to see if you still have any pics of Caroline as a kid."

Saskia nodded, "Yeah, I got photos; I've kept them all."

She looked up at Ruby. "Under my bed, there's a pit with a small black wooden box. Go grab it for me."

"Okay."

Ruby quickly fetched the box.

She looked puzzled and asked, "Mom, when did you stash this box?"

She hadn't noticed it when organizing Saskia's stuff earlier.

Saskia said, "There are a lot of precious photos in here. I was scared you might lose them, so I hid them well."

The box was opened, revealing a bunch of photos inside.

Saskia said, "Luckily, I had a habit of keeping photos at home. Otherwise, they wouldn't have survived the fire."

She found Caroline's photo from a pile of kids' photos.

Lisa handed it to Caroline.

In the photo, Caroline had short hair, looked a bit scruffy, with strands sticking together, a runny nose, red cheeks, and a thin frame. Her clothes were also kinda dirty.

Despite this, her eyes were bright and shiny.

Josie's eyebrows and eyes looked a lot like hers in the photo, and even the face shape was similar.

Saskia said, "That fire was super weird. Lisa and I felt someone wanted you dead, so we arranged for Lisa to take you to City B."

"Only Lisa and I knew about this. Everyone else thought you had died in the fire along with the other kids."

"If you wanna find your real parents, you gotta be careful of those who wanted you dead back then," Saskia warned.

Ruby, listening from the side, suddenly spoke up, "Recently, some people have been looking for a kid. I wonder if it has anything to do with you."

Saskia, Lisa, and Caroline all looked at Ruby.

"Who are they?" Caroline asked.

"A man and a woman," Ruby thought for a moment. "Oh, the guy gave me a business card. Let me get it for you."

She went to the cabinet and rummaged through the drawers, finally finding it after a bit.

"Here it is."

Caroline took the business card.

"Daniel?"

It was a business card from Daniel, the chairman of the Wolf Group.

Caroline brooded, 'Daniel's been looking for a kid?'

Questions crowded Caroline's mind as the mystery grew even more tangled.

"I showed him the roster. The kid he was looking for seemed to be named Diana."

'Diana? Diana Scott?' Caroline wondered.

Saskia spoke up, "Roster? Let me see it."
