Chapter 608 For You
The Lancaster Group, a bunch of directors were doing their thing in the CEO's office. After they wrapped up, they just hung around, waiting. Gabriel was dead silent, so they all started eyeballing him.
Alex was right next to Gabriel and noticed he was totally zoned out, lost in his own world.
The directors exchanged looks, while Harrison just chilled, watching Gabriel.
Alex cleared his throat to snap Gabriel out of it.
Gabriel blinked and looked at them with a blank face.
"Got it. You can go now."
The directors had no choice but to leave their reports and bounce.
Alex took off too.
Harrison plopped down on a chair in front of the desk, crossed his legs, and started whistling.
"Gabriel, something's eating at you."
Gabriel ignored him.
"Is it about Sophia?"
Gabriel paused mid-signature.
"Hit the nail on the head, huh?" Harrison uncrossed his legs, leaned on the desk, and said, "You two are living together and still nothing?"
"In the office, you're a mastermind, always closing deals, but when it comes to love, you're a total wimp."
Gabriel's lips tightened, feeling a bit ticked off.
Ever since that dinner when he took Tiffany's call, Sophia had been giving him the cold shoulder.
He tried to make things right, but she wasn't having it.
On the surface, Sophia was polite, but deep down, she was distant.
Gabriel couldn't figure out what he did wrong.
He had already told her he was done with Tiffany.
'Or maybe I haven't done enough?' Gabriel wondered.
Gabriel had never cared so much about anyone before. For her, he'd even risk his life, as long as she was safe.
But he had messed up in the past, and even though he regretted it, the gap between him and Sophia was still there.
He wondered, 'How can I fix this?'
Harrison was shocked when he saw the sadness in Gabriel.
'Is this still the Gabriel I know?' Harrison thought.
"Gabriel, don't be so down." Harrison felt bad for teasing him and tried to comfort him, "At least Sophia is still living at The Lancaster Manor, you still have plenty of chances."
Gabriel picked up his pen and went back to signing documents.
Just then, a message popped up on his phone. Gabriel glanced at it. 'An international number?'
He opened the message.
Vincent: [This is Vincent. Heard from someone yesterday that one of the nurses who helped with Sophia's delivery is at the hospital. Think you could check if she's still in City B.]
Gabriel's eyes narrowed, and he replied to Vincent. Gabriel: [Thanks!]
He then called Alex in and told him to find the nurse ASAP.
The whole deal with Sophia's hemorrhage during childbirth hadn't been looked into yet. He'd been too busy digging into the Kelly Group's murder case, which had put this on the back burner.
As for the Harbor Bay fire, Logan had confessed during his trial that he had set up Sophia's kidnapping during the fire.
Back then, to keep the Blackwoods from finding out the truth, he had planned to use the fire to kidnap and kill Sophia.
The only way to keep the Blackwoods in the dark was to get rid of the real heir, Sophia, for good.
Alex spent a day and finally got the nurse's address.
After the incident, the two nurses involved had taken the money and quit, moving to other cities with their families.
This time, the nurse's family member got seriously sick, so they had to come to City B for treatment.
After a long day, Alex finally got the nurse to spill the beans.
"Mr. Lancaster, it's confirmed. Miss Kelly's hemorrhage during childbirth wasn't an accident."
Gabriel's fists clenched, and Alex could feel the icy vibe coming off him, enough to give anyone chills.
"Someone tampered with Miss Kelly's delivery, causing her to hemorrhage. The masterminds? Ella and Patricia."
'The Browns again!' Gabriel cursed in his head.
A cold glint flashed in Gabriel's eyes.
"Find out what Patricia's up to and where she is right now."
"On it!"
Gabriel wasn't gonna let Ella and Patricia off the hook for what they did to Sophia.
With Ella in prison and Patricia being the last Brown standing, things were about to get real tough for her, and Gabriel was gonna make sure of it.
That evening, Gabriel drove home.
Ruth and the three kids were already knocked out.
Gabriel instinctively glanced up at Sophia's room on the second floor as he walked in.
From downstairs, he couldn't tell if her lights were still on. He changed his shoes and slowly made his way upstairs.
The lights in Sophia's room were off, but her studio lights were still on.
'She's still working!' Gabriel thought, concerned.
Gabriel frowned a bit. Sophia was always super dedicated to her work, but at this rate, she was gonna burn out.
Gabriel checked his phone's calendar and then headed back downstairs.
Half an hour later, Sophia finally finished her design draft and looked at it with satisfaction.
Checking the time, it was already 12:30 AM.
Sophia quickly packed up her stuff, ready to hit the sack.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Sophia wondered, 'Who could be knocking at this hour...'
A complex look flashed in Sophia's eyes.
She walked over and opened the door.
Gabriel was standing there with a cup of hot ginger tea.
"This time, I didn't forget."
Sophia remembered today was the first day of her period.
During the day, she had been in excruciating pain, but she had forgotten about it while engrossed in her design work.
Now that she remembered, she felt a slight pain in her lower abdomen and her waist was very sore.
Sophia hesitated for a second but took the cup and sipped it slowly.
Her stomach immediately felt warm, and even the pain in her abdomen seemed to ease a bit.
"Thanks."
The warmth spread to her heart.
"By the way, there's something else." Gabriel suddenly remembered and went to his room.
A moment later, he came back with two items, a heating pad and a massage pillow.
"Stick this on your abdomen when you sleep, and turn on this switch. It'll keep your stomach warm. I also got some medicine from the doc, with herbal ingredients. The heat will activate the medicine."
"And this one, place it under your waist. It has a massaging function, so you won't have to worry about a sore waist or trouble sleeping from an upset stomach."
Sophia looked at them.
"Company's research?" Sophia asked.
Gabriel replied, "Yeah, it's been tested and it's solid."
Sophia smiled and took them.
"Thanks."
Gabriel, worried she might think he wanted her to test new products, quickly explained, "These two were specially designed just for you. If anything feels off, let me know and we'll fix it."
Sophia was stunned.
