Chapter 581 Visiting
Gabriel strolled over, catching bits of Sophia and Ethan's chat, and raised an eyebrow.
That unopened metal box? Yeah, like Sophia, he figured it might have stuff about Susan's past.
But now that Sophia's come clean about her ties to the Blackwoods, what's inside the box seems kinda meh.
'But what if it's not what we think?' Gabriel wondered.
If Susan's death had anything to do with the Browns, she must've stumbled on something big.
Gabriel thought, 'Could that metal box hold some key evidence?'
Gabriel sauntered into the dining room, scooped up Sam from beside Sophia, plopped him on the other side, and took his spot.
Sam was fuming, thinking, 'How could Dad do that! Just to sit next to Mom, he moved me!'
Not just Sam, even Ruth and Sophia were caught off guard.
Gabriel acted like he didn't notice and told Ethan, "From now on, Dad's coming home every day after work to help you crack that metal box."
Ethan's eyes sparkled. "Okay."
When Gabriel was leaving, Sam was still pouting. He picked Sam up and pinched his chubby cheeks.
"Dad was on a business trip for a week and missed your mom so much."
Hearing that, Sam's heart melted.
Gabriel had been working solo out of town for a week, missing them and Sophia.
Sam thought, 'Alright, I forgive him.'
Sam gestured, 'I forgive you, but no more next times.'
"Deal."
As soon as Gabriel hit the office, he called Colin to set up a meeting.
Colin was nearby, so he swung by the Lancaster Group to see Gabriel.
Alex brought in two coffees and shut the door on his way out.
Gabriel cut to the chase, quickly filling Colin in on his findings. Only then did Colin realize Gabriel had been digging into this too.
Colin hid his surprise. "I've found some stuff too."
"The Kelly Group's done a lot of projects with the Brown Group. The one that went south also had the Browns involved. In every project with the Browns, Logan almost always took kickbacks from suppliers."
"In the messed-up project, Logan pocketed a ton of cash. It's likely Peter got those crappy materials under Logan's orders."
Piecing together what Gabriel found, Colin connected the dots.
"Logan probably didn't keep all the kickbacks but shared with Peter. They teamed up to fool Francis and used those subpar materials. When things went south, they couldn't take the heat. To dodge blame, Logan had to shut Peter up for good."
"Peter was killed by him. Coincidentally, Francis had also visited Peter that day, so Logan framed Francis."
"Before Francis died, the cops hadn't closed the case, but once he was gone, they called it a guilt-driven suicide."
The whole thing caused a massive stir back then. Almost every company tied to the Kelly Group got dragged down, and many people hated Francis and the Kellys.
The Kelly Group tanked, and creditors came knocking.
Gabriel added, "Sophia's mom might've found out the truth, but the Browns silenced her for good."
Colin gasped, thinking, 'The Browns are seriously ruthless. If Celeste knew about this, could she handle it? And Sophia...'
"But these are just our guesses. To nail Logan, we need rock-solid proof."
Gabriel and Colin both frowned.
After all these years, finding evidence would be like finding a needle in a haystack.
They thought, 'Logan's slick. He probably wiped out all the evidence ages ago.'
"We'll keep digging on our own," Gabriel said firmly.
Gabriel and Colin hashed out the details.
Today, Sophia didn't head to Fusion Dynamics Corporation. Instead, she went to the prison.
She was there to see Ella.
Ella had been locked up for fraud. She knew Logan and Patricia hadn't visited her even once.
Ella was thrilled when she got a visitor notification.
Even though she was shackled, she walked with a spring in her step.
Ella thought, 'It must be Patricia coming to see me. I knew she wouldn't ditch me.'
But when Ella saw Sophia, her smile vanished.
"Why is it you?" she muttered.
Sophia smirked. "You were once my aunt. To repay the Browns for raising my mom, I figured I should visit you."
Ella snapped, "Cut the crap. You're here to gloat."
Sophia replied, "Bingo. I am."
She pulled out some photos and handed them over.
"Your hubby and Patricia haven't visited you, have they? Ella, you're so pathetic. Check out how comfy Patricia's life is now."
The photos showed Patricia shopping.
It was clear Patricia was living it up, while her mom, Ella, was stuck behind bars, facing cold walls and occasional abuse.
Ella laughed, "As long as Patricia's doing well, that's all that matters. Sophia, you can't drive a wedge between us."
Sophia handed over more photos.
"Then take a look at these."
Ella's eyes widened. "What happened to Patricia?"
"She got beat up by Logan, badly hurt, and ended up in the hospital with multiple fractures."
"Logan, Patricia is your own daughter!" Ella was agitated and screamed, as if Logan were right in front of her.
The prison guard quickly restrained her.
After a minute, Ella calmed down.
"These photos must be fake. We all love Patricia. Logan would never hit her."
Sophia sneered, "The Brown Group's gone bust, and the Browns owe a ton of money. The Brown Villa's been seized and will be auctioned off to pay the debts. Logan drinks every day, and when he's drunk, he beats Patricia."
"Patricia's now a streamer, signed with some company. The photos show the company taking her shopping to doll her up."
"Every night, she chats with old men online and sucks up to them. She makes good money, but every penny she brings home is taken by Logan. He gambles, drinks, and then keeps beating Patricia."
Sophia laid it all out for Ella like a story.
Ella was stunned.
She couldn't believe Logan had turned into the jerk Sophia described.
She also couldn't believe that the pampered Patricia would become a streamer, a job she despised.
"Sophia, it's you. You must have ruined them," Ella suddenly tried to rush over, but the prison guard restrained her as soon as she stood up.
Sophia rolled her eyes.
"This is all your own doing. But considering the Browns once raised my mom, I can help Patricia get rid of Logan."
"On one condition: I want to know how my parents died."
Sophia stared intently at Ella, her eyes cold and merciless.
Ella's body stiffened, her pupils dilated, reflecting Sophia's fierce expression.
