Chapter 558 Do Something

Ethan ruffled Sam's hair with a grin.

"Hey, no rush, buddy. Emma and I got your back. We're family, and nothing's tearing us apart again."

Emma chimed in, "Yeah, and we can read each other's minds."

Sam beamed, his smile stretching ear to ear. He tried to hug Ethan and Emma, but his little arms couldn't quite reach around them.

Gabriel watched the scene on the monitor, feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. His heart swelled with affection, and his eyes softened.

Just then, Alex called.

Gabriel picked up.

"Mr. Lancaster, we dug up some interesting stuff."

"Like what?"

"While poking around the Kelly Group, an old business partner mentioned that Miss Kelly's mom had also been snooping around back then."

Gabriel's eyes went from soft to steely, a dark glint flickering in them.

"So, Miss Kelly's mom was onto something about the Kelly Group, huh? She might've even cracked the case," Alex continued.

Gabriel's brain was in overdrive, piecing things together. Maybe Susan's death wasn't just about missing her husband. Maybe there was more to it.

"Got anything else?" Gabriel asked.

Alex sighed, "That's all for now."

Not many folks knew the real story, and the key players were long gone. Plus, after all these years, the puppet master probably wiped out any evidence.

Finding clues was like hunting for a needle in a haystack.

"Keep digging. No matter how tough it gets, we need the truth!"

Alex replied, "Got it, boss!"

Jake made a beeline for Sophia as soon as he landed.

He'd been swamped with a ton of crap back in Country M, which meant he missed New Year's Eve and a bunch of stuff with Sophia.

When Sophia got Jake's call, she was about to grab lunch during her break.

Jake was already outside Fusion Dynamics Corporation. She thought for a sec and then told Larry, "My friend's here. I'm heading out."

Larry nodded, "Sure thing, Sophia."

Sophia quickly freshened up and went out, spotting Jake looking sharp by his car.

He stood tall in a stylish white suit, a loose belt around his waist, and a smile that could melt ice.

"Sophia, long time no see." Jake waved, his voice light and happy.

Sophia walked over.

"Got all your stuff sorted overseas?"

"Yep, and I came straight here to have lunch with you, to make up for missing New Year's Eve."

Sophia sighed, "Alright, let's go. I know a great spot nearby."

She hopped into the passenger seat, and Jake, in a great mood, even turned on some tunes.

He'd missed Sophia like crazy.

Every second, he was thinking about her.

Wondering what she was up to, if she missed him too, and when she'd finally ditch Gabriel.

"How are the kids?" Jake asked.

Sophia replied, "They're good. Emma's the biggest troublemaker."

Jake laughed, "Did Emma miss me?"

"Yeah, just the other day, Emma was wondering if you were avoiding her 'cause you didn't wanna give her a gift," Sophia teased.

On the drive, Sophia and Jake chatted and laughed, and before they knew it, they were at the restaurant.

Jake raised his glass of water. "Here's to your big win in the competition."

Sophia smiled and clinked her glass with his.

They talked shop for a bit, then naturally drifted into personal stuff.

Mostly, it was Sophia grilling Jake.

"Time's ticking, man. Ever thought about settling down with someone special?" Sophia, always the caring friend, wanted Jake to find happiness.

Jake's eyes darkened a bit.

"Yeah, there's someone I like," he mumbled.

He was dying to tell her it was her, that he wanted to be her forever guy.

But now wasn't the time.

If he spilled the beans now, Sophia would probably pull away, and all his efforts would go up in smoke.

"What'd you say?" Sophia didn't catch it.

"I said..."

Sophia's eyes suddenly locked onto something, and Jake, sensing the shift, followed her gaze.

Two women were coming down from the second floor. One of them, even with a mask and hat, looked familiar.

Sophia recognized her immediately. It was Tiffany.

And the woman with Tiffany was Dylan's lover, Marlowe Murphy.

Judging by Marlowe's now-flat stomach, it was clear she had already given birth.

Marlowe was buttering Tiffany up, saying something, and Tiffany nodded along now and then.

Feeling guilty, Tiffany pulled her hat brim lower and kept her head down, not daring to look around, so she didn't notice Sophia.

"Sophie?" Jake called her.

Tiffany and Marlowe had already left, but Sophia was still staring in that direction, lost in thought.

Hearing his voice, Sophia snapped back to reality.

"Do you know them?" Jake asked, curious.

"Yeah, but not well."

"Something up? Need my help?" Jake asked, looking concerned.

"It's nothing, let's just enjoy our meal," Sophia said, picking up her utensils and serving Jake some food.

After that, Sophia seemed a bit distracted, so Jake didn't push it and just ate quietly.

After dropping Sophia back at Fusion Dynamics Corporation, Jake drove off, put on his Bluetooth headset, and called his new assistant.

"I need all the info on the woman who had lunch with Tiffany today, ASAP."

"Yes, Mr. Hughes!"

Everyone was still on break when Sophia quietly returned to her desk. She took out her phone and looked at the photos.

She had put this matter on hold because of Patricia.

Now it seemed she couldn't delay any longer.

She had to do something.

Sophia sent a message to Caroline.

Then she went to the restroom to call Alex.

"Alex, Dylan is your brother, right?"

Alex answered, puzzled, "Yeah, Miss Kelly. What's up?"

"Is he married?"

"Yeah."

"Do you know Dylan well?"

Alex was even more confused. "Miss Kelly, if you need something, just ask."

"It's nothing. It's just that when Gabriel was in a tight spot, Dylan shut me out of the ward. His dedication really impressed me. So, I'm thinking about having him protect the three kids."

Sophia lied without missing a beat.
