Chapter 461 The Shameful Ex-Husband

Gabriel insisted on being discharged from the hospital. The doctor had no choice but to give him the discharge papers, with the condition that he had to go back for regular check-ups.

On the day of his discharge, Sophia was at work, and the kids were at school. Ruth sent James to the hospital to pick Gabriel  up.

Seeing Gabriel's despondence as he was being discharged, Harrison sighed twice, "Gabriel, you'll still need to put in a lot of effort if you want to win over Sophia."

Gabriel remained silent.

Alex asked, "Mr. Lancaster, are you going home or to the office?"

"To the office," Gabriel replied coldly.

Harrison patted Gabriel on the shoulder and teased, "Do you think Sophia feels grateful enough to repay your kindness?"

"How's Micro Circuit Group doing lately?" Gabriel asked, changing the subject as they got into the car.

Harrison took the hint and said solemnly, "They're quiet, so quiet it feels like something big is brewing."

Gabriel opened his laptop to check today's stock market.

"By the way, when the Lancaster Group's stock price fluctuated a while ago, we noticed some institutions were buying up the stocks that retail investors were selling off."

This had happened before; these institutions were waiting for the Lancaster Group's stock price to drop so they could short it.

But this year was special. A new player, Micro Circuit Group, had appeared out of nowhere, wanting to compete with the Lancaster Group. Consequently, they had to pay more attention.

Gabriel said, "Keep an eye on them."

"Got it."

During the afternoon meeting, Sophia was surprised to see Gabriel walk into the conference room. To avoid drawing attention to herself, she quickly looked away but took out her phone to text Gabriel.

Sophia: [You just got discharged. Why are you back at work already instead of resting at home?]

Seeing his phone vibrate, Gabriel opened the messaging app and looked up to smile at Sophia.

Gabriel: [I was bored at hospital.]

Sophia: [If you're bored, you can have Alex bring you the documents.]

Gabriel: [But I want to see you.]

Sophia's ears turned red, unsure of how to respond.

Gabriel: [You didn't even come to pick me up from the hospital.]

Even though it was a text, Sophia could almost hear his pitiful voice in her head.

"Ms. Kelly, who are you chatting with?" Kathy noticed Sophia smiling suspiciously at her phone and couldn't help but lean over.

Sophia quickly turned the screen off, placed her phone on the table, and wiped the smile off her face.

"It's no one," she said.

"No one, eh?" Kathy replied. Shepursed her lips, feeling a bit disdainful. 'What's the big deal?'

Gabriel didn't get a reply from Sophia. When he looked up, he saw her listening intently to someone else speaking.

Sophia was like a student in class, passing notes with a classmate, only to stop for fear of being caught by the teacher.

It touched him deeply.

Gabriel, having just been discharged, still looked a bit pale, with a hint of sickliness that made his handsome, chiseled features and deep, cold eyes even more attractive.

The women present blushed, captivated by him.

Kathy, sitting next to Sophia, felt Gabriel's gaze occasionally drifting over with a special intensity.

Kathy smiled sightly. Noticing Gabriel looking again, she pretended to casually tuck her hair behind her ear. Knowing her best angle, she slightly turned her body and lifted her head a bit to show off her delicate jawline.

She then pretended to listen intently and took notes in her notebook.

Sophia couldn't stay calm. Gabriel kept looking at her, making her feel uncomfortable and worried that others might notice.

She had no choice but to keep her eyes fixed on the speaker.

This displeased Gabriel. He glanced at the speaker, Calvin Grayson from the planning department. He was a master's degree holder who had returned from abroad and was still unmarried.

'Could Sophia be interested in him?' Gabrielthought.

Gabriel picked up his phone, his long fingers tapping on the screen.

Sophia's phone lit up with a new message. She turned off the screen, ignoring it.

When Calvin finished speaking, Sophia led the applause.

This made Gabriel even more unhappy.

Calvin naturally looked at Gabriel after sitting down, only to see his gloomy expression, which made him anxious.

'Did I say something wrong? Or is the plan not good enough?'

Next, a somewhat chubby manager spoke. Sophia tried to ignore Gabriel's gaze, listening and taking notes.

The meeting lasted an hour. When it ended, Sophia noticed something off about Kathy.

Kathy seemed like an animal in heat trying to court a mate.

This was a serious meeting. Whatwas Kathy thinking?

Sophia hugged her notebook, wanting to stay away from Kathy.

She followed the crowd out and returned to her desk, only then remembering she hadn't checked her messages.

Holding a glass of water, she took a sip and opened Gabriel's message.

Gabriel: [Calvin is 36, unmarried, and doesn't have a girlfriend. He's probably gay.. Watch out!]

Sophia choked.

After a while, she recovered and sent back a question mark.

Gabriel: [Wait for me after work. Let's go home together.]

He didn't explain the meaning of his strange message. Sophia didn't bother to ask further.

News came from the maximum-security prison. Raskolnikov had committed suicide out of guilt!

The police had found a clue pointing to Raskolnikov while investigating Alfred's case and had brought him in for questioning.

At first, Raskolnikov didn't admit to killing Alfred, but two days later, news of his suicide came out.

"Raskolnikov was a key suspect. With his death, the trail goes cold." Alex felt the case was becoming more complicated and harder to solve.

Gabriel frowned deeply. If he had suspected Tiffany before, Raskolnikov's suicide made him less suspicious of her because Tiffany didn't have the means to orchestrate Raskolnikov's suicide.

Gabriel tapped the table rhythmically and thought, 'But what if someone is helping Tiffany, deliberately doing this to confuse me and throw me off the trail? Who would help Tiffany? What's their goal? Are these people the same ones who kidnapped Sophia during the fire? Are they alsothe ones who kidnapped the three kids before?'

The mystery was growing, with the enemy in the shadows and him in the light, making it harder for him to focus.

Still, Gabriel believed that evil couldn't triumph over justice. The wrongdoers would leave traces and eventually be caught.

After work, Gabriel waited for Sophia in the parking lot, but Sophia didn't show up.

He sent several messages.

Ten minutes later, Sophia finally appeared, heading straight for her car.

Gabriel quickly called out to her. "Come with me."

Sophia pursed her lips. Before she could speak, Gabriel's voice came again. "Or I can go to you."

Sophia gritted her teeth. "Wait for me!"

Gabriel, pleased with himself, sat in the car, watching Sophia's sneaky but adorable behavior through the window, his smile widening.

Seeing no one around, Sophia quickly got into Gabriel's car.

"Is it really so shameful to be seen with your ex-husband?" Gabriel pouted.
